Summary: Great Summer Read
Review: Nelson DeMille was recommended to me by a gentleman in the Bangor, Me airport bookshop. He recommended The Charm School & I've been hooked ever since. Plum Island is a delicious read, with entertaining characters, a plot out of today's headlines and realistic descriptions of the North Fork area on Long Island. You can almost feel like you are approaching Plum Island on the boat with John & Co. You feel the swells of the sea, you despise the bureacracy and many of the people who are part of our government. That's what DeMille does so well - he make's you imagine & feel. Another note - his books do not follow the same formula ala Grisham, Ludlum et al. Each book is unique in itself

Summary: A Return to the Wonderful
Review: After the somewhat disappointing Spencerville, I was thrilled to see DeMille return to the intrigue and suspense reminescent of The Charm School and The Talbot Odyssey. A classic "whodunit," I was surprised by the true identity of the perp as well as the motivation behind the crime. Two thumbs up

Summary: A fun read
Review: Great book for summer. Funny, entertaining, fast paced. Makes you want to grab a shovel and head out to Long Island. One of De Mille's most enjoyable, although The Charm School will always be my favorite

Summary: Long Island was never so exciting.
Review: In a genre of books criticized for campy dialouge, dull plots, shallow charecters, and depressing ambiance, this reader was pleasently supprised at the pace, banter, depth and uppredicability of Plum Island. This book either had me on the edge of my seat in supense, or rolling on the ground laughing. This book is a must read this summer but be careful, once you pick this book up, you wont be able to put it down

Summary: Perfect summer reading
Review: "Plum Island" is my first exposure to Nelson Demille's writing. I enjoyed the easy flow of the book, was perfectly content to let Mr. Demille take me anywhere he wanted and yes, the main character has some chavaunistic traits but I forgave him. The humor was..... humorous. The connection to a real place and the geographical references made me refer to my Atlas. It was like, wow, there is a Plum Island, Mattituck, Cutchoge and soforth. I knew my husband would enjoy the book and I wouldn't mind my 13 year old reading it. As a Tom Clancy fan, I relished the brevity of "Plum Island" and the lack of major details but was entertained none the less. You want to be entertained? Read "Plum Island". I have started "The General's Daughter" where the male lead certainly reminds me of Mr. Corey from P.Is. but that's OK. Rebecca Gree

Summary: Demille's best novel since "The Charm School"
Review: Interesting from the first page. Excellent references to Long Island makes it interesting for those on the east coast. Demille keeps you guessing Almost to the end, scattered with some surprises, it held my interest throughout.

However, as a woman, I thought the author revealed himself as a chauvenist, giving his main character some outdated and somehat borish characteristics. Still, a very fine read

Summary: Funny, funny, and funny.
Review: Nelson DeMille has a great gift. This is the first book of his that I've read. If all of his books are like this one I'm really looking forward to this summer as I'm sure I'll be in stitches. Ed McBain makes me laugh but DeMille makes me laugh out loud

Summary: DeMille's best book since The Charm School.
Review: Before I began to read this book, I had three thoughts in mind - (1) The Charm School is on my top ten list of the best books I have ever read; (2) I did not like The Gold Coast, the book that Plum Island is compared to most often; and (3) I do not like books written in the first person. This book was definitely a pleasant surprise. It is well written and moves along at a comfortable pace. The plot, while occasionally predictable and not always realistic, contains enough twists and turns to make this book a fun read. John Corey, the main character, can wear a little thin with his constant inability to be serious regardless of the situation. The ending wraps up neater than most novels I have read in recent months and leaves only one or two loose ends. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it for a summer reading list

Summary: What a hoot!
Review: Although parts of the plot were precicatable and somewhat unbelievable, nevertheless, Plum Island was still an enjoyable read. There was enough suspense and plot twists to keep the reader from getting bored with those aspects that were predicatable however, the best part of Plum Island is not so much the mystery and suspense as it is Nelson DeMille's sense of humor. I laughed out loud at many of his one-liners and if you don't read slowly enough you'll miss some hilarious innuendoes. If you're looking for a mystery story with some humor sprinkled in, you may be disappointed, but, if you're looking for a humorous story with some mystery on the side, you'll be thoroughly entertained

Summary: Plum Island is really a Peach!!!
Review: Fast moving, gripping novel hurls you around like a roller coaster but won't let you go. I lost lots of sleep over this book last night
