Summary: Robert Crais is a gifted storyteller
Review: I've read every book in this series and thoroughly enjoyed each and every one. L.A. Requium is hilarious in parts and it was great to finally catch up on Joe Pike's life. Robert Crais just keeps getting better.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Great, except for the ending
Review: The story was one of those rare ones that pulls you in and makes you hate to stop reading for meals, sleep, etc. But something happened at the end, like it was thrown together at the last minute. A very unsatisfying conclusion.

Summary: Wonderful book by Robert Crais.
Review: Another wonderful book by Robert Crais. He has not let me down yet. I read all his books. Most successful writer when they get more famous, their work gets worse. This is not the case with Robert Crais, he keeps getting better.

Summary: Excellent!
Review: I agree with the other reviewers who said this is the best in the series. Crais has taken his work to the next level. I read it in one day, which leaves me in the unfortunate position of having to wait at least a year for the next Elvis book. I do have two picayune quibbles. First, on page 19, how does Elvis know that Ronnie's claim to fame is a Charmin commercial? Second, on page 252, the Spanish is wrong: it's esperar, not es perar, and it's cuidado, not quidado.

Summary: I couldn't stop reading until I turned the last page!
Review: For all you Elvis Cole fans who want to know more about what makes Joe Pike tick...this book will start to answer some questions. Just wish I didn't have to wait so long to get the next Elvis Cole mystery in my hands! Keep it up, Mr. Crais. You're the best!

Summary: Grabs you from the first page to the last....
Review: This is the type of book that you cannot put down yet when you read the last sentence you can't believe that it is over and it will be such an agonizingly long time till the next Crais book is out. This has got to be one of my top ten books of all time! The plot is fast and interesting and the characters superb! There was nothing about this book that I didn't like. I am especially glad to have gotten the background on Pike, to know why he is the way he is. It is going to be hard to wait for the next in the Elvis Cole saga! Well done Mr. Crais!

Summary: Robert Crais' latest is also his best!
Review: The sleuthing team of Elvis Cole and Joe Pike are back, this time caught up in a murder case that ultimately reveals much of the mysterious ex-police officer Pike's life before Elvis. Joe Pike has always been an enigma, a man who speaks little but says much. For those who are already fans of Crais, the wealth of information learned about Joe Pike is alone worth the price of the book. Crais' writing is realistic, easily readable and it screams out for a screen treatment.

The death of Pike's long ago girlfriend Karen Garcia plays out as a random act of violence, but with the help of feisty police detective Samantha Dolan, Elvis soon finds out that it's much more than that, it's an act of revenge. In fact, the story is rife with revenge, most of it directed toward Pike. The girl's father, millionaire food magnate Frank Garcia has connections that put Elvis and his partner in the middle of the action, which of course enables Elvis to discover that nothing is ever as simple as it seems. Much more is at stake here than the vindication of Joe Pike, for Elvis himself must find vindication for himself before it's over.

Elvis is of course at his wise cracking best, but with a melancholy touch this go round, his love, southern belle Lucy Chenier taking some of the wind out of his sails. Life does that sometimes. But in the end, the book is, as Crais says, about hope, rebirth and starting over, a message that we all need to hear from time to time. And we leave Elvis with no doubt that he will succeed at this as well, because he is after all, the world's greatest detective.

Summary: The best Elvis Cole book yet!
Review: I have been a Robert Crais fan since THE MONKEY'S RAINCOAT, and I have enjoyed seeing Crais, the author, and Cole, the character, develop and mature with each book. Sometimes I felt that the wisecracking was getting to be too much, inappropriate in places, and grating, but I have always liked the characters and the stories. With L.A. REQUIEM, Crais has written his best book yet. Elvis Cole has more depth, character and feeling; and revealing Joe Pike's background gives the book an added dimension which I enjoyed immensely. This book is so good that it should elevate Robert Crais to the top level in this genre.

Summary: Thank you Mr. Crais!
Review: I tried--I really did--to make this last, knowing it's so long between books, but once I hit the last 100 pages, that was all he wrote. What a wonderful emotional and entertaining novel! Just prior to L.A. Requiem coming out I re-read all of the Elvis Cole series. It defintely won't be that long before this one is re-read! What a gifted writer you are Mr. Crais!

Summary: an attention grabber typical of robert crais
Review: i love all of crais' books but this is the first one to delve into the character of Joe Pike. I was fascinated and can't wait to read the next one. It wasn't as tongue-in-cheek as most of his books but it was really good. cole is a very complex character and i love learning more about him. I can hardly wait to see what happens with him and Lucy!! Please dont wait so long between books - I miss reading about Elvis!!
