Rating: Summary: A Powerful Voice Hits Home With Another Powerful Novel Review: Solomon Jones has done it again with The Bridge. I was a huge fan of his first novel Pipe Dream. It was as real as it gets and so is The Bridge. The author manages to draw the readers into the characters so much that you actually feel like you are bearing witness to their lives, their dilemmas, and their pain. When a young girl comes up missing, people who have hated each other and ignored each other for years band together to try to get her home safely. Accusations and blame are thrown all over the place, leading to a climatic ending. What I really enjoyed about this book is how the author showed us what some young children must endure on a daily basis in order to merely survive. It is a serious wake-up call.
Rating: Summary: Applaud for Solomon Jones' The Bridge Review: Solomon Jones has earned critical acclaim for his sophmore novel "The Bridge", a haunting and electrifying thriller that relentlessly captivates his readers from beginning to end. A roll-a-coaster tale intelligently composed about drug addiction, murder, deference and tangled relationships. Those who can relate to one of the three varieties respond to this story as genuine and authentic. Jones possesses writing attributes that deliberately stuns his new readers, continues to thrill his fanatics and exhilerates his critics. "The Bridge" draws you into Philadelphia's darkest underworld of self-destruction, betrayl, deceit and reverence. Introducing Kevin Lynch not just a detective but a man who is trying to live his life, forgetting about his past but that all changes when his childhood friend whose daughter is missing needs a favor. Now Lynch has to revisit his troubled past by returning back to home in the projects known as the Bridge. With a surprise ending and an addictive plot, Jones will astound you throughout his personal journey of "the real."
Rating: Summary: Strong Second Effort Review: Solomon Jones introduced us to the streets of Philadelphia in his first novel, Pipe Dream. In his fast-paced second novel, The Bridge, he introduces us to the people. The mystery revolves around the disappearance of a child, but the story is about much more than that. The Bridge is about relationships. A long-buried love interest between the married Detective Lynch and the drug-addled Daneen reemerges. A disastrous affair has all but destroyed the lives of two other characters. A twisted love connection drives the actions of two more. And in the midst of the drama, an investigation reveals the shameful secrets behind it all. Jones spins a great story while addressing issues of love, betrayal and revenge. All told, The Bridge, Jones's strong second effort, is even better than his first novel, Pipe Dream.
Rating: Summary: GRIPPING Review: The Bridge is a page-turner that you will be unable to put down until you find out what happened to Kenya. The book enthralls you with each page, sentence, word. You can't wait to find out what happens next. A definite must-read!
Rating: Summary: Solomon Jones-You did it again Review: The Bridge is an excellent depiction of crack addiction in North Philly. In this fast-paced turn of events novel,The Bridge will have you sitting on the edge your seat as if you were in a movie theatre. In addition, the characters and events were very well thought out.I'm a native of Philadelphia so,I know the neighborhoods extremely well and,if you actually walked through these areas you will see that the people on the streets are similar to the characters in the book including law enforcement officials!!!! Overall,The Bridge is a definate must read novel. You're constantly trying to figure out what happened to the little girl Kenya Brown and the people who are possible suspects. My mouth dropped open when I reached the end of the book. Solomon Jones is on the rise and I would love to see The Bridge on the "BIG SCREEN".
Rating: Summary: Solomon Has Done It Again!! Bravo From Philly!!!! Review: The Bridge is like Pipe Dreams to the tenth power. Although it is a completely different story, Solomon has a way of grabbing you by the hand and walking you through a world unlike your own. Both books kept your attention with the right-in-your-face action which made the book a definite page turner. I immediately felt the pain of the characters, and what emotions they were going through without being side tracked from the story. The ending was a true shocker and it will have even the most avid reader stunned. Solomon Jones is bringing something to the table that the average reader isn't quite ready for. Writers beware; there is a new man on the block, and he's about to take us by storm. Bravo, Solomon! If you haven't read a good book this year you will not be disappointed with The Bridge. Rating: Summary: Action Packed Murder Mystery That Leaves No Loose Ends Review: The Bridge is my first Solomon Jones novel and I can't wait for the next. He's a great action/mystery writer. The Bridge is a poverty stricken neighborhood in Philadelphia. If you get out of The Bridge alive and not wanted by the police then you're one of the lucky few. Detective Kevin Lynch is one of the few that returns to investigate the abduction (presumed murder) of his childhood friend's daughter, nine year-old Kenya Brown. In an area like The Bridge everyone knows Kenya is dead before her body is found. As Lynch searches for Kenya the list of suspects grows with almost every character having a well detailed motive to harm Kenya. I found myself constantly changing Whodunit. Not until the VERY END was I able to eliminate suspects. The Bridge is packed with action from the very beginning and doesn't stop until the last page (literally). The action is not overdone in "Hollywood fashion" and the characters are not super-heroic and know-alls - this kept my attention. Also, Jones doesn't leave any unanswered questions. With each character we learn the truth about his or her relationship with Kenya and what kept the person in The Bridge.
Rating: Summary: Poor Kenya... Review: The Bridge started off slow, but quickly picked up after couple of chapters. I won't give away too much of the story, but it focused on a nine year old girl that came up missing after her crack-selling aunt sent her to the store at ten o'clock at night. Solomon Jones kept me guessing to the very end. He gives you a cast of colorful characters to choose from: Aunt Judy that sells her crack out of her house, her boyfriend Sonny that has been rumored to molest young girls, Daneen, the missing girl's(Kenya) mother that ended up getting her daughter taking away from her, Lily, Kenya's best friend mom and Darnell, Kenya's uncle and Kevin Lynch that guy that was asked to help find Kenya. Pick this one and enjoy it today! The ending will knock your socks off! Five stars NO DOUBT!
Rating: Summary: The Bridge - Top 10 Review: The Bridge was an awesome story. I felt like I was living there and reading the local newspaper. I hope Solomon Jones has as much success as Walter Mosley because he is a good storyteller. Waiting patiently for the next book and if you didn't read Pipe Dream, I recommend that also.
Rating: Summary: Authentic Urban Murder Mystery Review: The streets, the characters, the excitement, the anguish...the story is real... Several weeks after finishing the book, (which was impossible to put down...) I'm still thinking about that little girl and her f-ed up family with no way out. This guy can write. Buy this book!! And buy Pipe Dreams. Whew! A crack love story. Made me cry.
