Summary: These characters get into your head.
Review: Don't worry if you saw the movie. There's enough that is *not* in the movie that the book is more than worthwhile. If you haven't seen the movie, this will be more of a treat.While the descriptions are graphic and the murders horrific, I think your mind allows you to make as much or as little of it as you want. The storytelling is much stronger than the gore. I thoroughly enjoyed the forensic aspect of "The Bone Collector" and thought it deepened the mystery so much that I resented the next book that I read when the crime solver *didn't* "walk the grid."

Review: To be very brief. the book was intertaining, thrilling. It was my frist JEF. DEAVER novel, I will definately buy more of his novels. I liked the background he gave us about crime scenes, and forensic expertise. Although Rhyme's condition was not totally nice, I was not sympathatic to him, but admired his thinking and leadership. Deaver's was writing is of the first degree

Summary: Defines the meaning of 'thrill'!
Review: I'm always behind when it comes to new theater-released films, so when I fell way behind on seeing this movie, I decided instead to read the book. Now having seen the film, too, which was good, I'm glad that I read the book first!! Deaver's narrative is a non-stop ride - - I couldn't wait to stop doing whatever else I was doing to get back to reading this book and actually finished the last 250 pages in one sitting! The only qualm I have is that it wasn't long enough - by the end of the book, I was sad that I had to leave it and return to emptier, less exciting novels. Deaver has really set a standard here, for me and for other readers - his style is a heart-pounding ride into the world of murder and crime - who knew it could be such fun? Everyone has to read this book!!!! I am looking forward to reading everything Deaver has written thus far. Dena :)

Summary: THE BONE COLLECTOR.....WOW!
Review: After having read this book, which I just finished reading at this moment, will make me feel sort of errie the night time I debone chicken. I had already seen the movie and thought that it was really great, but when my boss told me that if I really wanted to enjoy Lincoln Rhyme, I had to read the book. He read it on a flight to N.Y., now can you imagin how he felt when he arrived at Kennedy? I really loved the book. The plot was so different and fast paced. I am a hooked Rhyme fan and I hope Deaver will continue to write more books about him and of course Sachs. Truly a team to watch out for. Read the book, I promise you'll agree.

Summary: I heard about it, but still wasn't ready for it!
Review: Taxi! Not me! A quadriplegic detective is ready to call it quits with life until an unusual case and a young lady detective changes his mind. She becomes his legs and eyes at the gruesome crime sites. With the use of technology and his forensic talent they try to save as many lives as possible from the bone collector. The bone collector is a serial killer who lives in the present yet at times sees the world during the turn-of-century. A couple of warnings here: this audio is not for those with soft stomachs and taxi riders take note of your drivers before you shut the door! The Audio was very realistic. Kudos to the reader.

Summary: Relatively boring book
Review: I never felt like I was able to get into this book like I should have. I never really felt any sympathy for any of the characters, including Lincon Rhyme or the victims of the crimes. The plot kind of meandered through the lives of the various victims and law enforcement officials, without providing any gripping tension. I was quite suprised by teh person committing the crimes, but it wasn't shocking. There are some nice moments, but overall I wasn't impressed.

Summary: A Truly Great Read!
Review: The ability of Mr. Deaver to help us get inside the minds of both the killer and the profiler looking for him make this one very thrilling book. I recommend reading this BEFORE watching the movie which was good but not nearly as good as the book. This was no fault of the wonderful cast but due to the fact that you just cannot put the indepth descriptions of the mind on film as you can in the book. This is right up there with Patricia Cornwell, John Sanford and James Patterson.

Review: so far, my favorite. i've read everyone of j.d.'s books that are in print. however, i was disappointed, when two chapters toward the end j.d. got a little too exited and forgot what he wrote in one, only to have the following chapter contradict itself. besides that, the book was a 'one nighter'.

Summary: PREDICTABLE, COMPLETELY UNREALISTIC PLOT
Review: Perhaps I expect too much out of novels, but I usually hope to find some realism and believability in the way a story plays out. This book had neither. The time frame in which it takes place is totally ridiculous... between Friday night at 10:30 and Saturday night / early Sunday morning, if my tabulations are correct, our villain has kidnapped 5 people, one at a time, murdered them or left them to die, and planted elaborate clues at each scene for the detectives to find. The detectives(a fashion model-turned-Kojak named Amelia and the crippled genius, the annoying Lincoln Rhyme, who knows virtually every fact about the city of New York, down to the types of dirt found in each block of one of the world's largest cities) manage to find each victim, locate the planted clues, analyze them, and use the obscure and miniscule details to lead them to the next kidnappee... 5 of such crimes solved in the course of 16 hours. (Though the mayhem begins at 10:30 pm on Friday, the first victim isn't discovered until about 9:30 am on Saturday.) Added to this rapid-fire, breakneck-paced chain of events are several hokie plot twists... the bed-ridden quadrapelegic ex-detective Rhyme goes from attempting to hire a Jack Kevorkian style 'doctor' to put an end to his miserable existence, to finding new meaning in life as he trains his newfound protege, Amelia; the latter makes 2 or 3 major career-changing decisions, from wanting to leave her beat for a desk job, to unwittingly helping our paralyzed hero, to reporting him to her superiors for violating departmental procedures, to deciding to stick by his side through thick or thin. The investigation is first run from Rhyme's bedroom, then yanked away by the cruel and invasive FBI, then stolen back by Rhyme's ragtag group of cohorts (complete with a pair of investigators referred to as 'the Hardy Boys', who annoyingly finish each others every sentence), then partially wrenched away by the feds, then put back in the charge of Rhyme by a U.S. attorney. All of these twists and turns occur in 16 hours? SIXTEEN HOURS? (I'm sure the book continues on past the 16-hour mark... maybe the characters even catch a catnap at some point. I'll never know because I gave up on it.) Like I said, I like plots to be believable. If this story had taken place over the course of two or three weeks, instead of less than one day, then it may have held my attention better. As it was, I made it to page 288 (out of 423 total), and I gave up, exasperated. The characters in the book didn't take one break, not to eat, sleep, take care of anything else other than this ridiculous case... I, on the other hand, had to take a break from the book. A long break.
