Rating: Summary: This novel is no far-fetched detective story! Review: "Soft Case" by John Misak is the first book in a new detective series being offered to the many thousands of mystery lovers (like myself) in the world. A new series that will attract many many fans!An entertaining tale about a bored homicide detective (Keegan) that craves a little excitement in his ever-growing dull life. Both in his personal life as well as on the job. Finally, one day, the detective's prayer gets answered when a high profile case is thrown in his lap. Software giant Ronald Mullens has been murdered and detective Keegan's life both on a personal leval as well as on the job shifts into high gear as he tries to contend with his over-zealous partner, fight off the media, and confront corruption which seems to not only know no end but it seems to go all the way to the top of the totempole. "Soft Case" is no far-fetched detective story by any means it is fast-paced both in plot as well as dialogue and the characters are great, easy for the reader to relate to! In my opinion, Mr. Misak has a real winner on his hands. A story that offers the reader thrilling suspense, a great plot and a ... fun way to spend an evening.

Rating: Summary: 5 stars Review: A detective story like no other, this novel holds you in suspense from beginning to end while keeping you laughing the whole way through. I cant wait until Misak's next story, "Time Stand Still" hits the shelves!
Rating: Summary: Thrilling first novel Review: A friend of mine bought this for me. Reading it, and enjoying it, I never thought it was a debut. This book is funny, exciting, and possibly one of the best reads I have experienced in a few years. If you like detective stories, this is a must have, period.
Rating: Summary: Worse book I've read in a long time...possibly worst ever. Review: Career wise John Keegan is content with being a detective on the New York City police force; he has no aspirations or desire for further advancement. His personal life, however, is practically non-existent and leaves him with time to speculate about taking drugs to see if the high that accomplishes this is truly better than sex, as he has been told by some of his less than upstanding friends. When a high profile suicide is assigned to him and his very ambitious partner, Rick Cahill, John knows that he isn't going to have much free time to speculate on anything other than the death of software millionaire, Ron Mullins. Was Mullins's death actually a suicide or a murder? First time fiction author John Misak unravels SOFT CASE slowly - very slowly. Unfortunately the first half of this story is "filler"; the author is setting up the characters that are pertinent to the tale, and a lot of characters that just take up space. But if the reader can hold on, the action really gets interesting in the next half, and a very good yarn unfolds. Review by: Betty Cox

Rating: Summary: Worse book I've read in a long time...possibly worst ever. Review: Drags...and drags...and drags. No action. Limited plot. Boring...Boring...Boring. All those who gave this "See Spot run" novel more than 1 star must not read much or live a very sheltered life. I have finished every book I have ever started but this one was a real chore. Don't waste your time or your money. Get an older Grihssom novel if you can't find anything else...like A Time to Kill. I warned you...
Rating: Summary: Wow Review: I don't like mysteries that are formula based, ones that seem so similar to the other ones out there. Soft Case is a breath of fresh air, a mystery that kept me wonderng what would happen next. It is crafted perfectly, and paced just right. On top of that, I laughed constantly! This novel is funny. I don't mean it is a comedy, just that it had me stopping several times to laugh. This is a rarity. John Misak seems to know about police procedure as well. Detective John Keegan doesn't follow the book, but he is aware of it, and there were no instances where I thought the author was stretching reality to fit the story. Everything seemed realistic. If you enjoy mysteries, this is a book you should buy. It will satisfy you and keep you coming back for more.
