Summary: I LOVED THE MOVIE I DIDN"T CARE MUCH FOR THE BOOK.
Review: Anybody who buys JAWS the novel and expect to be as great as the movie will be very dissappointed. I found while reading the book that there was too much focus on the town and subplots such as the ellen brody, matt hooper will they will they not have an affair. Also I was a little uncomfortable with some of the ethnic references in this book as well such as harlem by the sea etc. I also found that chief broady and quint were the only characters that I could relate to. I really didn't like the character of matt hooper at all he seemed to me a troublemaker type espically when it comes to his friendship with MRS BROADY. I found that the most exciting part of the story was when BRODY HOOPER AND QUINT hunt the shark. I felt there should've been more focus on the shark than the town's crisis's you almost end up rooting for the shark anyway. So anyway see the movie skip the book.

Summary: AT TIMES SUSPENSFUL AND EXCITING BUT AT OTHER TIMES TOO DULL
Review: JAWS by PETER BENCHLEY was the first shark novel I had ever read. IT had suspense terror and action rolled into one. However after reading MEG by STEVE ALTEN. I felt JAWS could'nt compare to it and here's why. I went back and reread JAWS after I finished MEG and I found that I didn't like it as much as before due to some of the town subplots and the ELLEN BRODY, MATT HOOPER affair as well. I didn't think it really was relevant to the story. Which was to why the GREAT WHITE SHARK had come to this summer town and caused all this terror and havoc . The subplots were a bit much for me to take. I felt that the most exciting part of the book was when QUINT, HOOPER, and CHIEF BROADY go out and hunt the shark. I kind of wished that the author had put more action into the story. The kind that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Like the novel MEG had done for me. I would recommend seeing the movie JAWS however. It is a lot better than the book was. It's action is nonstop and there are no dull subplots to lure you to sleep. Although I will say when you see the MEGLADON on the big screen hopefully soon. It's liable to make you foget all about the GREAT WHITE SHARK as this shark will make it look like a guppy. BUT not to knock JAWS too far down. THE SHARK in JAWS is a helluva lot more realistic than the ones in EXTINCT which I had the misfortune of reading as well at least the shark's teeth in JAWS were white. And the shark wasn't some outreagous length like 200 FT. And at least some of the characters in JAWS I liked not like the characters in EXTINCT who were just too dull.

Summary: THE BOOK IS GOOD BUT THE MOVIE WAS BETTER.
Review: I read Jaws before I read WILSON'S EXTINCT and ALTEN'S MEG. I liked it a lot better than EXTINCT but not MEG and here's why I found that the book JAWS was not as exciting or as suspensful as the movie. Although I liked the way BENCHLEY wrote the story. I found that a couple of the chapters focused too much on weither matt hooper and elllen brody would have an affair or not. I found that to be irrelevant to the whole story which is trying to figure out why this killing machine called a GREAT WHITE SHARK has come to this town and caused all this havoc. I felt that the action didn't pick up until QUINT, HOOPER, and BROODY go after the shark and that was the most exciting part but maybe BENCHLEY could have had more action sequences earlier in the book which would keep a reader on the edge of his or her seat while reading the novel. Granted JAWS has suspense, terror, and action in it but when I read MEG I felt I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. And in that sense I felt that JAWS the novel didn't deliver enough action at crucial times like it should have. Anyway if you liked JAWS the movie you'll like the book but in my opinion probably not as much.

Summary: Great book but better movie
Review: I thought that Jaws was a great book. If you liked the movie then chances are you will like the book. There is more detail in the book but the movie you actually get to see the person get eaten. But I think that most people watched the movie first and then read the book. I think that if they read the book first they would like it better. I enjoyed all of the romantic parts. It gave us a glimpse of what Ellen was like. The ending was a little lame but thats probably because the movies ending was classic.

Summary: BRILLIANT!

Summary: The shark rules, Jaws bites
Review: I read Creature. Ive seen Jaws the movie. Ive even ridden Jaws:The Ride at Universal studios. After those experiences, I thought Jaws would be the movie, plus more intensity, more character development, and less standard horror movie characters. What I found is more like an exploratory essay on greed, fear, and adultry. If the movie had nothing to do with the book (and if the book had a better ending) I would have enjoyed it much more thouroughly. As it is, it left me wanting more... much more. Benchley needs a sequel just to improve upon the characters and what happens to the town.

Summary: Give this book to a kid in high school who hates to read.
Review: "Jaws" was the first book I read for pleasure. I was a freshman in high school who was so turned off by reading because of, what I considered at the time, a completely lame public school curriculum. I had no idea that reading a book could be so entertaining until I stumbled onto "Jaws." I was hooked after the first page and enthusiastically read the entire novel in a day and a half. Now a chain reader, I credit Benchley for taking my focus off of television and into literature.

Summary: " A Modern and terryfing classic"
Review: If you loved the movie, the book will make you feel even more nervous. Never mind the dumb romance in the middle of the book, the fight between man and nature it's the real story in here. Meet Brody, Quint and Hooper three different men with different fears and conflicts. Meet the shark, a sea devil who seems to be aware of everything that happens and it's more intellignet than these men expect. This was the book that inspired the movie that set the rules of terror and suspense. This book's ending will shock you. Don't go into the water. Meet the terror, learn what happens when Leviathan rises.

Summary: I vote for the movie!!!!
Review: For years I have read books that are eventually turned into movies and I am usually disappointed in the movie. But in this case I have to say I am more disappointed in the book version. Benchley's characters are hard to like. The only character I liked was Hendricks and he wasn't a major character! The book seemed to be more focused on the rich vs. poor theme then the shark. The whole book seemed to revolve around Ellen Brody's character and the mayor's business partners. Who cares! Half way through the book I wanted all the characters to get eaten!! After finally reaching the end of this whine-fest I could not believe the totally stupid ending! Unbelievable! I felt cheated! I would like to thank Steven Speilberg for turning the miserable book into something incredible. See the movie, forget the book!

Summary: Good Book...Graet Movie
Review: Let me first start off announcing that JAWS is my favorite movie of all time. I saw the move at leat 50 times BEFORE I decided to pick up the book. If you are not a diehard JAWS (the movie) fan, then this book is not for you. However, if you love the flick, then this book is a MUST read. Believe me, you will not be blown away by this novel, but it is a good read, and has some very shocking plot twists which were not included in the film. However, the book was often times dull, and you found youself thinking "enough of this crap! Bring on the shark!" , but, for those parts when it was man vs. beast, the book was quite exciting. One final thought....after reading JAWS, you will appreciate how amazing the performences in the film were. Most notably Robert Shaw as Quint. He turned a dull character, into one of the most remembered characters in the history of the movies.
