Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: This book is truly unforgettable. Well worth the small cost. I don't normally write reviews of books, however, this book is so worthy of one. This is an excellent book, one - if not THE BEST books I have ever read. It is so well written; and at times its sad, often funny and also extremely interesting. I agree with everything the other reviewers have written. I couldn't put this book down, and like the other reviewers, am gutted that its finished.
Rating: Summary: True, Horrific, Spine Chilling Review: I read this book in my Hotel room in Bangkok in one sitting. The horror of Race's experience was put over well although I think the book is far too short, perhaps due to him being unable to put the most horrific times into words. Being in Bangkok certainly set the atmosphere well and I am able to see how the Thais could be so cruel. Race certainly paid for his crime and my best wishes go out to him. We should not forget that these people are criminals though and that Interpol still continues it dark work. A must read book, buy it now!
Rating: Summary: Indepth and thoroughly convincing, from start to finish. Review: This book takes you right inside the walls of Interpol. The author wrote a stunningly researched book that sets the tone just about right for a piece of work of this type. The start of book is also compelling, where he offers his knowledge of the goings on in Interpol's elite teams, in London something that few are aware of still today. He also does well in detailing the different relationships between the members of the elite teams, and an interesting look at the wave of child slavers that has engulfed Asia, and just how menacingly it is making it's way through eastern Europe and already has gotten a foot hold in America. A must, quite simply a must.
Rating: Summary: A READ THAT SHOCKS AND SICKENS Review: I have recently read this book and I could not put it down. It was sensitive to this graphic material and every detail was very well written. The sad thing was these child molestors got away with such monstrous acts for so long. This is a very good read I would recommend this book to everyone. This book gives you nightmares but well worth the read. This is the sort of book that you do and don't want to read. The details can put a bad picure in your mind which makes you want to put it down but it is a definite page turner. How the book is written makes you feel sorry for David Bannon but does not excuse his participation in Interpol in any way. If you like criminology, this is a definite.
Rating: Summary: Absolute MUST read! Review: Spectacular book! Incredibly insightful, well written and totally accessible. An amazing insight into Interpol and the minds of criminals. A book for both interested readers and the curious, I really recommend it.
Rating: Summary: The man can't write! Review: My wife got this book for me as she knows I love this kind of stuff. She had heard Mr. Bannon in and NPR radio interview and read the positive amazon.com reviews and thought I'd love it. Boy, was she wrong! From what I've heard, it seems there was some concern that Mr. Bannon may be embellishing or fabricating some of the elements of the book. Be that as it may, that didn't bother me as much as the fact that he is an awful writer. He has no concept of putting events in proper context and showing the passage of time, nor does he know how to write dialog. The entire book was very choppy and disorganized and I didn't get any of the deep feeling that most of the reviewers here experienced. I think Mr. Bannon would have been better served by hiring an experienced writer with whom he could collaborate and bring out his story in a more coherent, readable fashion. All in all, a terrible disappointment.
Rating: Summary: The danger sign up ahead says "Caution". Review: Our company provides background checks for employers. Like defense contractors. Checking Interpol is always recommended as a policy. These real life facts should be nothing more but nightmares we can all wake up from.Mr Bannon has done a great service to the US & the rest of the world that will effect us all for years to come. This book just reaffirms why we, the free world, are never free without paying a price. This is why intelligience communities play a vital part in our daily lives. When your child is missing, you dont care about protocol. Just the quickest way to bring them home. This book is a brave tale told. I salute Mr Bannon for the courage to tell it. And to his family for supporting him.<...
Rating: Summary: New Evidence of Interpol's Activities Review: This is a fast-paced inside look at the workings of Interpol and its national and international dealings, by a highly educated man who spent his entire career working Interpol's intelligence units. Surprisingly, Bannon's story compares favorably to earlier classic true crime tales as he narrates his personal failings and recruitment into a secretive and grotesque world. Bannon has an eye for the details of this lonely life, but the heart of the book is Bannon's description of the mysterious figure of Jacques Defferre, who controlled Interpol's intelligence units for nearly twenty years. Bannon's first-hand accounts of Defferre's dealings with the Mossad and MI6, as well as his thorough background material in the front and back of the book, provide some new evidence of the extent of Interpol's global activities.
Rating: Summary: Well-written compelling memoir Review: This compelling memoir gives readers a window into the international smuggling world from the early 1980s to late 1990s. Well written in Bannon's own voice, the book details his beginnings with the Korean mob as a Mormon missionary who couldn't say no to some easy money. Working his way down, he eventually went to prison. Released on Interpol's payroll, Bannon worked his way through the ranks to a clandestine special operations team called Archangel. Angry and bitter, he resolved to take his revenge on those who caused his loved ones and innocent children harm. Now he tells his story in this frank and enjoyable book.
Rating: Summary: Thank you for writing this book Review: Mr. Bannon, your book has changed my heart. I just put it down after reading it twice. I'm overwhelmed and moved at your objectivity, remorse and compassion. Three years ago my youngest son was kidnapped and killed. Even now pictures of his abuse are on the Internet. So much of what your book describes is so terribly real. Reading your story, the way you are so tactful but firm in your descriptions of these atrocities and most of all the way you are so open and honest about your own emotions, you touched my heart. I have hated for three years. Hated and yearned for vicious revenge. Your book has taught me through your experience and candor that revenge will only hurt myself and my family. I knew it, in my heart, but they way you have opened up your heart to us gripped me and changed my thinking. I can sense your pain in the very ink of this book and know why you agreed to work for Interpol. And I know how you regret your life in many ways. You've opened my eyes and my heart, Mr. Bannon. You've taught me that forgiveness starts with myself. And most of all, you've taught me that revenge is a sacrifice on the altar of evil - it feeds on my soul and would victimize my son over and over through my own dark heart. Telling so much must have taken great courage, but it reached me in a way no spiritual counseling or praying has ever done. In fact, perhaps reading your book was an answer to my own personal struggle. Thank you for writing this book, Mr. Bannon.
