Rating: Summary: Great Book!!! Review: Kept my interest from the first page until the end. It was interesting to read all the stories about the biker gang coming straight from the source. I would definently recommend this book if your at all interested in the Hells Angels.
Rating: Summary: Sonny Barger's Flawed Philosophy Review: I read it in a single day, a rarity for me. Couldn't put it down. Barger's honest and open telling of his own worldview and the detailed sketch of the culture of HAMC, along with the complete lack of apology, make it really compelling. But he is a criminal, and the con in this book is the statement near the beginnning, to the effect of: "All I ever wanted to do was ride and be free." He proceeds to prove, through the rest of the book, that that is merely a justification for his lifestyle and (possibly) plea for fame and respect in the valuable cultural currency of 'freedom from oppresive powers' (he already has plenty of fame and respect on his own terms), but its not true. Barger likes to pick fights, bother innocent workaday people and locals, and be the center of attention wherever he goes. His quest for freedom required the abrogation of everyone else's freedom, not just the police and rival clubs as he seems to want you to believe. "Hell's Angel" is most interesting, for me, in the depiction of his dynamic leadership and the need, so often suppressed, for men to band together and be unified in something. I envy him the brotherhood he founded and don't begrudge them the right to defend it's name, by violence if necessary, against fools who want to challenge it or steal it. But I don't believe for a moment that he wants to live and let live. He and his club steal, con, and completely disregard the wishes of the citizen's of any community they enter; in reality, it's power that they want, not freedom. Just admit that, and this account would be balanced. Its already very entertaining and valuable cultural history.
Rating: Summary: AWESOME BOOK!!! Review: If you're interested in the HAMC and the true honesty of what really went on, I believe Mr. Sonny Barger would be your best source. He's a man a great character and strength. I respect and admire the guy for the trails, tribulations and comebacks he has made. It is all is told in this book.
Rating: Summary: A LONG TIME COMING...BUT WORTH THE WAIT!!! Review: Here we get to take a rare journey into the true world of the 1% Outlaw life. So many of the books published preceding this have been nothing more than the conceited opinions of those that have run afoul of the famous bikers or just myths passed along from law enforcement propoganda. Sonny gives us the real story in his first autobiography that we have waited so long to here. A true patriot with sometimes misunderstood ideas we see from his eyes his whole world as it shaped him and made him into the most charasmatic leader that the biker world is yet to see. From his childhood to his teenage enlistment in the Army to President of The Hells Angels he lays it all on the line. If you are looking for him to make excuses you'll be sadly dissappointed. He doesn't need to and owes no one. You will be surprised, I think, at the steps and measures taken by the law enforcement community to TRAP him. We find the true story behind the FBI's most prize posession anthony tait and get a good look at the questionable tactics used in making him look presentable. The biggest point of the book, though, is survival. Sonny the Survivor. Never looking back he overcame hurdle after hurdle to remain in the position he is today. Never selling out. Holding his head high from the RICO charges in California to his battle with the "Big C" Sonny puts new meaning to the phrase, "If it doesn't kill ya' it makes ya' stronger". The only negative comments I have heard come from people who wish they had the courage to live the life but can't find it. If you don't spend your money on anything else this year, spend it on this. There is no way that you'll be disappointed. GOD'S SPEED AND RIDE HARD SONNY
Rating: Summary: One Hell of a GUY! Review: The most enjoyable book I've read in quite some time! If you don't like riding FREE, don't care for the biker lifestyle and pushing the limit, you may be the wrong person to read this book. Approach it with an open mind, you may understand how Sonny became who he was, HIS OWN MAN, with very strong friendships. I thuroughly enjoyed some of the insight to the HA's, but mostly enjoyed learning about the the man himself. I'll take his side over almost any politician or CEO out there, because that way I would know where I stand.
Rating: Summary: It's good. Review: I met Sonny a few times. Won't say where, when, or how. Sonny's one of maybe five people I know that I'd trust to watch my kids.
Rating: Summary: Old dog Review: Sonny Barger grows old and feels the need to tell the world his story in a succinct read. Short, sweet and to the point. Unfortunately disconnected story lines, obscure chapter endings, fireside tales all tell one story. Sonny Barger attempts to hold order in the midst of chaos. Media attention -- Hollywood fascination all helped keep the Barger's organization afloat, but the chief was surfing the tidal wave, probably sensed it, but didn't care -- because he had so little invested. The angles were a part of him, but if it collapsed... it wouldn't take a chunk of his flesh. It has interesting parts, some of the people he talks about were real characters and some still are. I read it over several days. It was just okay.
Rating: Summary: Fascinating but deeply flawed book Review: This is an extremely interesting book. However, be aware that this man's philosophy is that the one constant in the universe is man's inhumanity to man. What he calls freedom is his need to indulge this view of the world. The Hells Angels' desperate need for the fellowship of like-minded people follows from the deep feelings of loneliness and fear that they are unable to confront in this veritable hell of their own creation. Their desperate quest for freedom follows from the fact that they have none: in the hell of their own making it is impossible to act and think as an individual. They cling pathetically to each other for support, prepared to make absurd sacrifices for the club. Barger's book is fascinating because it is the product of a powerful and uncensored mind. It is flawed because he is a man who is utterly unable to see himself clearly or feel even his own misery. He needs, but knows he does not deserve, our sympathy.

Review: This book could possibly be the greatest book ever writen.Ihave read the book 6 times and in the middle of it again. It will keep you on the edge of your seat and will make you want to keep reading. You wont be able to put the book down.He talks about everything from sex and drugs to the law and hw even the goverment can bee corupt.I give this book a BiG A+++++++++++++++++.
Rating: Summary: Save your money! Review: Sonny Barger admits that he does not like Harleys so much, but he rides them because that is the image of the club. He would rather ride a Honda or a BMW. Other than that, not much of what he writes about makes any sense. Why is a senior citizen still bragging about the ravages of a misspent youth, which is still going on? Why does he want to brag about how much time he has spent in jail? Why do we want to hear about his dysfunctional family, etc.? As an appendix, this book includes his rap sheet which runs for thirty years!
