Rating: Summary: I would give this 0 stars if I could Review: Illogical, leftist trash
Rating: Summary: Complete Trash Review: I was forced to read this book for a sociology class I was forced to take at College. Just another example of how liberals take and contort knowledge in their liking. Liberals like Moore are so concerned with gaining self popularity and power, they completly miss the point of politics. Read it if you want to get inside the wild world of Leftism at it's fullest extent. Not very recommended, there are many better books out there.
Rating: Summary: Mindless Drivel! Review: The first amendment is a wonderful thing; it allows everyone to speak freely about what's on their mind, which is just what Moore does in this book. Unfortunately, what he passes off as factual is mostly fiction or unrelated facts that are taken completely out of context and passed off as research. Only in America could a "Stupid White Man" such as Michael Moore get this kind of garbage published. If you check your mind at the door and enjoy taking the road less traveled then you will get something out of this book. If you're a conspiracy nut with Marxist tendencies and are so easily influenced that you could believe that David Koresh was the mesiah then by all means read this book and follow what little is left of your mind!
Rating: Summary: Timely book Review: This is a good book, and it's no more timely now than never before. Much that has been written on the subject of before 9/11 has come to shed light on the post-9/11 world, and none more so than this book. The truth cannot be kept from the American people for too long, and many won't fail to prevent it by reading this book. If Bowling for Columbine talked about guns and easy targets, this talks the issues a step further. It's a shame people have to criticise what they think they don't understand.
Rating: Summary: Crazy but good Review: Yes Moore is crazy but lets face it: he's funny, and he can cut to the heart of things. This is a great book, and well worth your time.
Rating: Summary: Factually inaccurate and grossly distorted Review: This book is an unmitigated piece of trash. I read more than half and then just skimmed the rest because I couldn't justify wasting the time to complete it. The book clearly is based in very poor research (footnotes indicate he has used very few if any primary, authoritative sources), and gross distortions and misapprehensions of fact. This book is an embarrassment to liberal causes since it is so obviously flawed in so many ways. Rather than promote points of view Moore undermines them with mindless ranting that adds no clarity or insightful analysis to the debate. Take this book with a bag of salt.
Rating: Summary: Another idiot's 15 minutes worth of fame Review: Michael Moore is also a 'stupid white man'. To suggest that everyone in Ireland converts to Catholicism is the most ridiculous thing ever to be published. I am not a Bush fan, and that is as nicely as I can put it.... Oh all right, I hate him. But Michael Moore is really no better. Could you imagine this guy as president? He reminds me a little of that buffoon Rush Limbaugh. He claims to have all the answers, claims to know how to do everything, but when it comes down to it, he can't do a thing but talk. Well this is America and we all have the right to free speech, but couldn't we all do a book like this? Why does Michael Moore get to have his insane opinions published for his own financial gain? Why don't we all do it? We're all literate, we all have opinions. I'm going to begin my book right now. I'll title it "Michael Moore and Other Loud Mouthed Yankees who Need to Shut Up."
Rating: Summary: THIS is what being an American is all about... Review: ...NOT blindly supporting everything the leaders of the country do. What strikes me as funny is that the very people who are loudly declaring that we are all unamerican unless we are fully supporting our leaders are the same people who were screaming and moaning to impeach Clinton! That being said, while I don't agree with absolutely everything Moore said in his book, it was well-researched, fact-based, witty, and amusing. His research is flawless, his opinions are well supported AND correctly represented as opinions (100 brownie points for that). I couldn't put this book down until I finished it, and when I did, I was filled with inspiration! WONDERFUL book!!
Rating: Summary: Keep up the good work Mike Review: I won't write a lengthly review as there are already 900 of those. All I will say is that if you like Moore's previous work, you will love this book. It was the best selling non-fiction book of 2002 for a reason. Most impressive are his references to Enron and bin Laden, considering the fact that this book was written before 9/11.
Rating: Summary: Moore is funny while at times eye-opening.... Review: I bought this book primarily because of its title. The fact that a white guy is calling other "stupid white guys" out into the open I thought was worth a look. After reading this work of Moore's I can say that while it does make a some good points, it's more funny than serious, and takes a stand-up comedian's view of certain political quandries. Moore is in his element here, and he definitely has his own style of politics. Michael Moore uses facts (his outlining of Bush Team discreditations and descriptions of odd-ball dictator Kim Jong-il), a definate jolt of exaggeration (in his criticism of Clinton's removal of people from welfare), and downright funny and innocent-but-pointed observations and theories. His musings that men should lay down their work-and-war hammers and let women run the planet, and his caucasian-blowup-chauffeurs-for-blacks items are simply hilarious, and sometimes are taken way more seriously than they are meant. Again, some of what Moore says is exaggerated or misrepresented, thereby leading readers to a few of his tailored conclusions. But, since this book isn't solely based on an effort to convert you to his version of "liberalism", I cannot strike the book simply on his misrepresentation of some of his facts. His distortions certainly do not reach the level of Ann Coulter's error-ridden literary crusades. He has also retracted a few of these errors (as documented on www.spinsanity.org), and for example, corrected them in the DVD release of Bowling for Columbine. Regardless of what people think of Moore, he's not nearly as "dangerous" as he's been branded. Sure some of what he says is fact doesn't entirely turn out to be so, but some of what he says does. He uses his charm and naive theories for world peace and prosperity to woo audiences and stoke laughter. Moore is better seen as someone who makes interesting social commentary, rather than someone who's out to prove everyone else's wrongs and push his "agenda". If you read too much into this one, you've missed the point.
