Rating: Summary: I Really Don¿t Review: I almost feel a slight bit embarrassed to review this book given that it is proof I have dug into the very partisan grab bag of hate books. My only excuse is that I was at an airport during a late night connecting flight lay over and had finished the book I brought. I figured this book would provide me enough humor and outrage to keep me up the remaining hours of my trip. First off the title of the book is all wrong, the book focused about 80% of the time on the current Bush Administration. The other 20% was throw in filler from past years going all the way back to Reagan. It is really just one more book that is after Bush Jr. and I assume that putting his name in the title in place of Republican might have been too much. Sure the book was interesting, but the through-ins from past administrations tended to slow down the rhythm and flow of the book. The book is divided into chapters with about 2 - 3 columns or book chapters from different progressive or liberal authors. For the most part the editor did a good job of arranging the sections. As I said the book is heavily weighted to the current Bush team and the different issues that have outraged the left leaning of us. All the favorites are here, the rolling back of environmental laws, the tax cuts for the wealthy, and the war in Iraq etc. As I tend to read a lot of progressive publications and books I found many of the sections of the book to be repeats of items I have already read. This was a disappointment for me, but if you are just dabbing your foot into this type of reading then it will be new and probably enjoyable. I just felt that the editors probably could have not included the pre Bush Jr. items and still had an entertaining book. Overall I would say that this is an above average book for someone looking to feed his or her all ready strong negative perceptions and thoughts about the GOP. This editor did not go out of his way to try and present balanced articles about this issue and there are no "fair and balanced" rebuttal pieces to be found within miles of the book. The book is for the hard core Democratic base and is basically a response to the Coulter's and Hannity's of the publishing world. If you are looking for nothing more the an anti Bush Jr. book then this is just as good as any compilation book out there. It falls a bit short if you want more then just rhetoric and want to dig into the issues.
Rating: Summary: Alternatively Frightening and Hysterical Review: If you are looking for a reason to avoid a knee-jerk pro-Republican response, this book details some of the seamier sides to America's Elephant Party (assuming that the stories are true and not the machinations of some vast left wing conspiracy seeking tax hikes and other abominations). He fails to note that _both_ sides of the political fence (particularly now) claim a monopoly on virtue as loudly as possible, while accusing the other of unspeakable crimes. The author includes some less-than-concrete examples when trying to defend Liberals and Democrats. James Carville goes on about how hamburgers dispel the myth of "Big Government," (he essentially says that the Democrats virtuously defend the citizens from the predations of business) or something ridiculous like that, failing to make the connection between sound regulation of the food supply and the goverment absorbing 22% of the economy, up to and including $20 million mohair subsidies and $6000 toilet seat covers. I doubt if any reasonable person could envision a world where cash spent on meat inspections is not diverted to a padded defense contract, but that however is my point not the author's. Ludwig von Mises said it best: The only thing Republicans are good for is tax cuts; they spend as irresponsibly as any other politician of any party affiliation from any point in history. Whether you are a dyed-in-the-wool conservative, or a tax-and-spend, Kennedy Loving Liberal, or just a plain classical liberal (note the difference, please) this book has some interesting articles as well as some hysterical comment on the 1988 campaign [Dukakis -vs- Bush Sr.]. All in all a very good read.
Rating: Summary: Why the hate, well that is self evident Review: Is it because you know that the conservative party makes more sense than your party? Is that not what the last election showed, that mainstream America is tired of the liberal party shoving their decayed Politically Correct "values" down America's throat? Why should I not be offended by what the liberal party has done? Speaking of this as a Christian and a Republican (though of course just that notion makes the far left sick to the stomach due to their postmodern antagonism against anything remotely Judeo-Christian ), why would I not be offended at the millions of children that have been slaughtered in the narrow minded name of choice...choosing death of a child out of convenience instead of choosing life of a child out of morality. More children have died from abortion than the concentration camps (where, by the way, I am sure liberals such as this editor wishes the Christians to go). Why should I not be offended that the ultra liberal fascists speaking from this book and the others in the "I Hate" series use minorities (African American, et al) and women as a buffer...that is, not giving them true solutions, and instead, patting their backs so they can vote for the liberal party and then tucking these folks back under the rug until the next election period.
What good has the liberal party shown that would bring these egotistical essayists on board on a book like this? They've taken morality and truth out of our schools, out of our universities...while also trying so desperately to take morality and truth out of our families, out of our politics, out of our churches. Essayists like these who have come on board on this book are the same ones that support the hate filled mud slinging the ACLU does toward groups like Focus on the Family and the Boy Scouts. What a sad day it is.
Now I am not saying the Republicans have all the answers. Republicans can be as bad as liberals in some respect. Neither side is perfect. No. Republicans are as human as liberals. We're all sinners and we all need God. But as the antagonists in this book and books like this toward Christian Republicans have shown, anyone who speaks out for morality and moral codes are hated, mocked, and jeered at. So basically, the liberals who enjoy books like this enjoy being on their high horse, but really have nothing to show for themselves except their hatred...which eats them up and brings them to a bitter end in their lives.
A better book to read on how we need to grow past the mud slinging books like this and antiChristian and antisocial politics is the following: God's Politics : Why the Right Gets It Wrong and the Left Doesn't Get It -- by Jim Wallis. A book like this helps one to develop critical thinking skills while still staying true to Christian beliefs. I would also suggest the book What If America were a Christian Nation Again? by D James Kennedy.
Rating: Summary: This book is racists. Review: It is very racists to hate somebody for their beliefs. I am very offended of that, but you don't see the ACLU jumping out to protect me. It is a B.S. book. God help you all!
Rating: Summary: Wait a second... Review: It might be easy to dismiss this as just "liberal babble" like some of the other viewers did, and that is what I would do if I were a Republican also. That way you didn't have to address things like why did Florida Sec. of State Harris ask for 60,000 "felons" to be taken off the voter database for crimes they committed in the future (I guess Minority Report was inspired by a true story), and who were overwhelmingly minorities who just happen to have voted almost exclussively for Gore in the state. Also you would not have to consider the possibility of a conflict of interest among the Supreme Court justices who decided the case. Such as: Gore and Joe L. had both voted against Thomas's conformation (I bet that didn't compromise him), or that O'Conner's husband is the head of the Republican party in Arizona--where Sandra was also very active in the party, or that she wanted to retire while a Republican was president and at a party got very upset when Florida was annouced for Gore, or that Kennedy's only chance of being named Chief Justice when Rehnquist retired was with a Republican since he had also been very active in the Republican party prior to being on the court. Of course that is all just liberal babble. Probably even lies according to the always truthful Anne Coulter. But Republicans might want to read it if just to know all the of the stuff being made up about them.
Rating: Summary: total waste of paper Review: Just liberal babel, total waste of paper, ink and money. Why don't you send the money to Africa to help the children instead?
Rating: Summary: All the idiots in one place Review: So it's come to this. It's not bad enough that we have to be assaulted by Moore, Franken, et al in their individually published fevered rantings - now we have a COLLECTION of liberal pap all tied up in one neat package. It's a virtual boxed set of whimpering and sniveling being passed off as astute commentary. To the already convinced, enjoy your poisoned pabulum. To those with enough sense to see through the childishly circular arguments presented here - start running like hell - and don't stop until you're far enough away to escape the odor of these burnt offerings.
Rating: Summary: A nice little anthology Review: Sure, there's some stuff in there that you've probably read before. But there's also some very interesting stuff that has been ignored by the "liberal press" - like the so-called felons that were not allowed to vote in Florida. But when looking at the list of the felons, many of them committed their felonies in 2007 or so. It's disturbing.
Rating: Summary: so good! facts on every page! Review: the republicans who are giving bad reviews to this book are just upset because they're so stupid. you cant argue with this book. read it and see. conservatism comes from ignorance and lack of culture. read it and learn! buy many copies! leave em around in random places! if you just open the book to a random page you learn enough to know how badly Bush must be stopped! learn what damage the republicans have done to hurt enviornmental issues, freedom, civil rights, jobs, economy, religious freedom, democracy, everything.
Rating: Summary: What a bunch of garbage Review: This author makes too many stereotypes and hates anybody who disagrees with him. I don't recommend this book to anybody who wants to get educated. Don't buy it! Much worse than "Manufacturing Consent." by Noam Chomsky
