Summary: How much do you want to bet..............
Review: that this moron leftist......A reader from Omaha, NE USA......, below, who doesn't even have the intestinal fortitude to identify himself, never read this book. I hope he's a young college kid because he sounds just like one of the present spoiled generation who has no clue what it's like to live without the precious freedom and opportunities made available by the individuals he scorns.
How did the "Greatest Generation ever have so many thankless, unappreciative, weak, and ignorant children and grandchildren. Unfortunately, the answer is easy. They gave them too much and made it too easy, and their descendants know little about work, resolve, sacrifice, and love. They are LEFTISTS, not liberals. There is nothing liberal about them.
Read this book about a real man who loves his country, and knows he may be a one-term president, but, unlike Bill Clinton, will do whatever it takes to win the war against terrorism.
As I write this, small examples of Sarin gas (WMDs)are being found in the possession of terrorists. That's where the WMDs are. They are there just like the President said they were. So small they can be packed into a rifle cartridge and hidden under the nose of any investigator.
If President Bush loses the election we proably will lose this war. Then there will be HELL to pay, and John Kerry will never lead this country to the hard-fought victory it will have to be. Leftists just don't have the guts. They are trying to live a fantasy in a warm fuzzy wuzzy world that doesn't exist.
George W. Bush is a real man, and history will show that, but it may be too late.

Summary: Pathetic Self Pity
Review: Deluded egocentric American men will especially love this book! It's a work of pure fiction. Poor, poor Mr. Bush -- please spare us this pathetic GOP self-pity book.

What some Americans go through to deny the truth of what and who G.W. Bush really is, truly amazes me! As the truth continues to come out about the dark deception of Bush and his Administration, this "poor Bush" book will be burned all across America. "How could I have been so blind?" will echo across this country and eyes will be opened.

When it comes right down to it, the right wing extremists can't handle the truth, can't handle criticism and will attack blindly based on lies, even distorting minor personality flaws (Clinton) for political gain.

Summary: Simply the best of the best
Review: This is absolutely the best book of its kind I've read in years, by one of the best journalists.

Humor and pathos mixed with a riviting reporting style that leaves no doubt about the down home true American values and character of President G.W. Bush.

Glad I bought it and I'll be saving it for my children and grandchildren. A classic.

Summary: The media: THE most dysfunctional and failed major American
Review: institution is well documented in two chapters.

If other major American institutions were as bad we'd all be driving French cars and be drinking German beer.

"Quagmire" brought up by the press after two or three days in Iraq.

My personal favorite, "When will the war end?"

The myth of Jessica Lynch.

Jayson Blair and Howell Raines.

I could go on and on and Sammons does. He names names for the most part.

The sad part is the press remains influential despite the fact that it has been terribly WRONG.

The pertinent question is: When and how will the MEDIA fix itself?

Unlike the military, the press seems incapable of investigating and dealing with itself.

The President's last press conference was instructive. Three or four questions were the same: When are you going to admit you made a mistake?

When will the press admit and correct ITS mistakes?

The saturation coverage and breastbeating over Abu Gharib is a case in point. An important story, for sure, but not Watergate or the Bastille.

Summary: Careful observer of President Bush
Review: Bill Sammon is a working member of the press whose assignment is at the White House. Thus his book is much better informed and more accurate than most other books about President Bush that have been published thus far (the book by Karen Hughes is the obvious exception). He has far more information from interviews of the key foreign policy officials in the administration and has personally observed far more than, for example, Bob Woodward, whose generally favorable view of President Bush is weakened by the fact that Woodward does not cover the White House and had to depend mainly on second- and third-hand sources for his information.

Sammon gives a balanced assessment of the way in which key issues were handled leading up to the Iraq war. Several reviewers claim the book favors the President. Have they read the book? In fact the first chapter is a vigorous critique of decision-making in the White House, and numerous mis-steps are pointed out in the succeeding chapters.

Many of the previous reviews of this book seem to be opinions of George W. Bush by people who have a strong emotional dislike of him, rather than evaluations of the book. This reader believes that anyone will find the book factual and valuable in forming an opinion of the President.

Summary: I am a sad American - Disappointed with our leaders.
Review: While I was writing my review off-line to take advantage of the spell checking, I watched this book go from number 6 to number 27. I actually read the book. Now I wish I'd spent the money on a good steak with onions, mushrooms and a really big scotch. It's hogwash, an illusion, like most politicians.

I'm an old fart, retired Texas businessman, conservative, grandfather, and once proud to be a Republican. I even voted for George Bush Jr., thinking that Gore was a better statesman, but George Jr. was closer to understanding the plight of the middle working class. It wasn't the biggest mistake I've ever made, but it troubles me the most. I'm sure a lot of good Americans are reassessing their support for our Misunderstandeded President.

Hey class clown, yes; most fun to get drunk with, yes; class bully, yes; but qualified to be President of the Greatest Country in the History of the World? I don't think so. What the hell were we thinking? He doesn't represent us, the middle class, he represents the CEOs, the affluent, the Top 2%, and the lobbyists from big corporations. Time to admit we were wrong.

I have a lot of time on my hands to think, think about the Korean War I served in, WWI that three of my 7 uncles served in, and the Vietnam War that my son was disabled in. I, like the vast majority of Americans, believed our government and trusted politicians back then. But, hey we were stupid, we thought being a lawyer was an honorable profession.

Even though I was a conservative, I contributed to charity, I did volunteer work, I never judged a man or woman who was down on their luck or those who had made bad life decisions. I always thought; "There but for the Grace of GOD, go I." I lived by the Golden Rule. I even supported 'Affirmative Action' thinking that Jesus would have also. Given my fellow man that had been so horribly oppressed, a hand up. What happened to Christian charity? You can call the President many things, but you CANNOT call him 'compassionate' with a straight face.

This book is written by a life long conservative who is an average journalist and big business supporter. It is turned out by a public relations gin mill and not worthy of your money. One of my four children is a rabid conservative. Somewhere I went wrong. I failed to teach him that family, love, compassion, honor, and being your brother's keeper were the reasons we put here by God. I can no longer be silent. This is not a worthy read, nor is it the truth.

Summary: NOT FREE AT LAST....................
Review: This is a strange work, a fantasy, unreal, quite biased,
and out of touch with reality. Thank you for not putting
any truth it it. 'For the truth shall set us free,' and there is
no real mention of freedom in your simple work. So your
book will not help anyone.

NOT FREE AT LAST
???????????????????????????
* I was born poor and mostly free,
When you last acknowledged me.
* We children of political strife,
Once an unwanted desert life.
* I drowned in the sand and oppression,
That life giving tomb of neglect and oblivion.
* Weaned from a mad mans fantasies,
Spat out on a street without melodies.
* One tragic dark night, my family killed by bombs,
I took flight, shook with fear, and saw the military mobs.
* Given what the US called a fair trial, none at all,
Kicking your boots and saying hiel, in the pall.
* A jury of fair haired white contractors,
Asserting their laws with might and tortures.
* We parted at the iron gate,
Into a prison filled with hate.

* Humbled, shackled, broken, and bound,
In a world of evil renown.
* In your distant world still free, a Democracy,
Would you switch places with me.
* Alone in a world I can only rue,
Waiting for the devils last tattoo.
* Dreaming of escape on wings serene,
Giving up being poor, dumb, and unclean.
* My brothers and I will suffer until we fill a ditch,
But not your peace giving politicians and rich.
* Write your myriad praising books of Bush,
One world order, as freedom comes to a hush.
* Human outcast eaten by the war system,
My racing heart waits for the light to dim.
* Your good life, my miserable death,
Fill this cell, after my last breath.
* Thank God I have freedom now,
Given Democracy, however low.

Sorry, but I think in prose.

Summary: Hear No Evil Speak No Evil - Even if his hero is EVIL.
Review: You can't go 3 sentences in this book without Sammon calling someone unpatriotic or a communist or a liberal whom he sees as interchangeable. Every line he calls another person a name without every backing it up. The book is filled with religious Bush worship rhetoric and anyone who believes this crap is just plain ignorant. Apparently, like Bush, Sammon wants to stomp on the Constitution and let religion into our public places, especially schools. JUST BECAUSE PEOPLE IN AMERICA OPPOSE SAMMON'S VIEWS OR THE VIEWS OF THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION DOESN'T MAKE THEIR VIEWS WRONG, OR THE PEOPLE UNPATRIOTIC.

The book is horribly written, with little factual information. He just rambles on for sentence after sentence in an unorganized way. If there was any point or message to his writing I couldn't get it through all the blind worship and red scare (terrorist) talk. Apparently Sammon thinks we're still in the height of the Cold War the way he claims anyone who is unreligious or opposed to the war in Iraq is a Communist, even though Bush and his whole administration are now proven liars. I can't believe how many reviews support this book; I can't in my right mind see how anyone could see this as a good book or any of his points valid. I for one, am a proud American, and it is people like Sammon who perpetuate the idea that America should be for the few not for everyone. If you other reviews want to call me a names for writing this, then go right ahead, it will just show how ignorant and uninformed you are.
After all, the top 20 reasons for going to war stated by Bush, Cheny, Powell, and Rice have ALL been PROVEN wrong. We give tax breaks to the rich, yet the Bush administration announces they want to cut back on Social Security benefits. WOW! Don't you see something wrong with this?
DON'T YOU REMEMBER?
* Brazenly mischaracterizing intelligence and resorting to deceptive arguments to whip up public support for war with Iraq..
* Misrepresenting the provisions and effects of the president's supersized tax cuts.
* Offering misleading explanations- instead of telling the full truth - about the 9/11 attacks. Blocking every investigation by waving the flag of National Security or Presidential Privilege.
* Lying about connections to corporate crooks
* Presenting deceptive and disingenuous claims to sell controversial policies on the environment, stem cell research, missile defense, Social Security, white-collar crime, abortion, energy, and other crucial issues
* Running a truth-defying, down-and-dirty campaign during the 2000 presidential contest and recount drama.
* Presidential 'photo ops' like landing on a carrier, and saying 'I support our troops,' when in fact this administration has cut pay and allowances for service men and combatant soldiers. This president has not gone to a 'single' soldiers funeral and has cut substantial operating funds from the Veterans Administration. Support my what?
Arm yourself with stupidity and lies! This book defies logic, is poorly written, humorless and dry to read. This book is a big helping of overblown diatribe and bias. I read all the top political books as an independent; this was one of the worst.

Summary: Shameful
Review: This book is shameful. Simply - shameful. I thought I would give George W. Bush the benefit of the doubt - as many American's have - but the truth is all around us and it is so explicit that you can not make excuses for this man. I hate to admit this and I hate to write this, but George W. Bush is an absolute failure of a President and this book does not unite truth and justice which is essential in any publications. I hope Bill Sammon hasn't quit is day job.

Summary: Some interesting tidbits
Review: There are some interesting tidbits buried in this book. I haven't read the book yet, but it's author, Bill Sammon has been presenting excerpts in The Washington Times during the week of May 10, 2004. One of my favorite revealing excerpts concerns the Presidents habits with regard to the media. :

'Aware of the facts'

The media's questionable Vietnam analogies are just one
reason Mr. Bush does not pay much attention to press
coverage of his administration.

"I don't watch the nightly newscasts on TV, nor do I watch
the endless hours of people giving their opinion about
things," the president said. "I don't read the editorial
pages; I don't read the columnists."

Yet Mr. Bush regularly monitors the news pages of a select
few daily publications.

"I get the newspapers - the New York Times, The Washington
Times, The Washington Post and USA Today - those are the
four papers delivered," he said. "I can scan a front page,
and if there is a particular story of interest, I'll skim
it."

The president prides himself on his ability to detect bias
in ostensibly objective news stories.

"My antennae are finely attuned," he said. "I can figure
out what so-called 'news' pieces are going to be full of
opinion, as opposed to news. So I'm keenly aware of what's
in the papers, kind of the issue du jour. But I'm also aware
of the facts."

Those facts are extracted from news stories each day and
presented to the president by a half-dozen aides, Mr. Card
among them.

"Since I'm the first one to see him in the morning, I
usually give him a quick overview and get a little reaction
from him," Mr. Card explained. "Frequently, I find that his
reaction kind of reflects [first lady] Laura Bush's take."

Indeed, the president often cites articles that Mrs. Bush
flags for greater scrutiny, even when he has not personally
slogged through those stories. Mrs. Bush routinely delves
more deeply into the news pages than her husband, who
prefers other sections.

"He does not dwell on the newspaper, but he reads the
sports page every day," Mr. Card said with a chuckle.

'A clear outlook'

Mr. Bush thinks that immersing himself in voluminous,
mostly liberal-leaning news coverage might cloud his
thinking and even hinder his efforts to remain an optimistic
leader.

"I like to have a clear outlook," he said. "It can be a
frustrating experience to pay attention to somebody's false
opinion or somebody's characterization, which simply isn't
true."

--------

So there you have it! Bush always reads the sports pages. He looks at the news mostly to confirm his notions of pervading liberal bias. He avoids opinions because he wants to preserve his prior opinions; doesn't like to have his own opinions challenged. How do contrary opinions get a hearing in the Oval Office? They simply don't. You were perhaps wondering how we managed to blunder so badly and so repeatedly in Iraq? As Josh Marshall puts it:

How could we have ignored so many warnings, so much expert
advice, so many facts staring us in the face? The president
just gave you the answer.

This book is intended to be 100% pro-Bush. The author, Bill Sammon, is a Senior Correspondent for The Washington Times (an extremely pro-Bush paper owned by the Unification Church of Reverend Moon) and a political analyst for the Fox News Channel. But still, the fact that Bush surrounds himself in a cocoon of no dissent comes through loud and clear. I don't know ifI'll buy the book, but I sure did learn something from it.
