Rating: Summary: Right wing nutball Review: As usual the right wing blames everything on Bill Clinton, ignoring the obvious fact that clinton is a top 5 president of all time, this coming from a moderate republican, me. The far right gets so carried away, it ruins the cause for the realistic moderates. Mr. Morris is mad as hell because he does not understand too many basic principles of human nature and economics. What we should all be reading about is how to get the rules written to get President Clinton back in office to get this economy going like he did before!
Rating: Summary: Not as great as his appearances on Fox News Review: I liked this book alot. Dick Morris is probably the best political commentator on Fox News - therefore the best on TV. His opinions and ideas are usually right on the mark. I did feel that he tended to hammer his points a little too much in this book. Do we really need 50 pages to convince us that the NY Times is pushing its liberal dogma to the masses? I don't think so. I would have liked to read more of his thoughts on what I feel is the biggest threat to the American political system - Hilary Clinton.
Rating: Summary: Morris' autobiography surprisingly forthright Review: Surprisingly, the traitor, crook and obstructionist which Morris refers to in the title turns out to be himself. In what turns out to be a deeply confessional autobiography, Morris describes in great detail his corrupt and amoral rise to the heights of American politics and his subsequent downfall as a result of his perverse activities with the seedy drug and prostitute culture of DC. Morris is to be applauded for his frank admission of his own spineless behavior in the aftermath of the Clinton impeachment. He admits that he shamelessly made endless talk-show appearances in which he attacked Clinton's [] behavior, while being engaged in far more depraved activity himself. For all his perverse personal traits, you have to credit him for his honesty.
Rating: Summary: Vital Reading Review: Dick Morris drops the kid gloves and comes out swinging in this one, taking on everyone who he feels has let the country down and/or set a poor example in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. The first chapters hit the hardest and get this book off to a whale of a start, as Morris goes right after the New York Times and ridicules the legendary publication for its weighted polling and agenda-driven reporting--this chapter is especially interesting in light of the recent Jayson Blair scandal, which came to light after the book was written and just before release. The next target is President Clinton, and while Morris, who worked in the Clinton White House for two years, greatly admires Clinton's domestic accomplishments, he takes the former Commander in Chief to task for putting his place in history ahead of standing up to a clearly growing terrorism problem. Whatever you think of Bill Clinton, this is one take--from a former Clinton aide--you probably haven't heard yet. And it isn't pretty. The mainstream media is hammered for their continual doom and gloom approach and over-reliance on equally negative retired military "experts" in the studio, and it's disheartening to be reminded of what lengths--like the New York Times--the mainstream media went to in order to ensure that the war effort would backfire. In that vein, Morris savages the Hollywood anti-war crowd, singling out the most egregious and ridiculous comments which were made to push the same agenda. Finally Morris takes France to task and underscores how much of an appeaser they've been to Hussein for the past two decades, and how their utter refusal to come to our side as we prepared for war was simply staggering after everything our country has done for them. The final four chapters, representing Part Two, aren't quite as compelling. But Morris makes solid points and will open a lot of eyes as he describes the gerrymandering which has all but guaranteed that members of the House of Representatives will be in their slots for years. He paints a terribly disheartening picture of how some congressmen actually put legislation in place which keeps investors from being able to sue companies which defraud their investors, making a strong case that many in Washington on both sides of the political aisle are to blame for the lack of investor confidence in today's economy. Finally, Morris, who lost his mother to lung cancer, describes the efforts of people like Mississippi Attorney General Mike Moore and others who launched the huge lawsuit against the tobacco industry and paved the way for hundreds of thousands of dollars in research and awareness to curb teen smoking--and he spotlights the governors and others who've chosen to spend that money on things other than anti-smoking in order to balance bloated budgets. The final chapter is devoted to the plight of the elderly and neglected in our nursing homes, and it's an equally ugly picture. This book will make you mad, and it will make you sad. But they are stories which need to be told, and Dick Morris writes, as always, with a high degree of intelligence and an especially enlightened perspective. Very timely, and highly recommended. I almost never give politically-based books five stars, but this one is very close.
Rating: Summary: Save your money Review: The only thing Morris gets right with this book is the title. He spends so many pages attempting to justify all of the mistakes - economic & political mistakes - of the Bush Administration that he has wasted a fantastic time to do a service to the reading public. After having read this book, I immediately wanted my money back. This was a huge ripoff. He should have used the space to examine the economy and factors leading up to the current debacle created by the Bush Team and their long list of "pay backs" they've had to carry out. Over 90% of the book was his attempt at justifying the Bush Administration's policies; it was a lost cause. My advice DON'T BUY THIS BOOK.
Rating: Summary: Pretty good, as political books go. Review: I don't particularly agree with a lot of what Dick Morris has written, but I will say this: Right or wrong, he's written a specific critique that rises above the partisanship that characterizes most political books. He's more than willing to point out flaws wherever he may find them. One thing I do find myself in strong agreement with is the specific criticism of the foreign policy of the 1990s. Morris suggests it was the neglect of foreign policy policy and the pattern of accomodating and paying off tyrants that allowed for the rise of terror in the 21st century, and I can't say I find many flaws in his argument.
Rating: Summary: Dick Morris - Fair & Balanced Review: Dick Morris' new book is about more than politics, but there is a political or legal answer to the issues he discusses. He criticizes many people, and many groups, but he has done it fairly. And he compliments the targets of his criticism, when appropriate, showing that he is fair and balanced. That balance is missing in many books on politics and current events. One must always look for bias, what the author says (and doesn't care to mention) to see if he is giving it to us straight.
Rating: Summary: a book that says it like it is. Review: This book is about the mind numbing'POLITICALLY CORRECT'grey mass of liberal people who think they know it all, what's good for them is good for America.Right!dead wrong they are,9 out of 10 americans working the factories and stores and industrial floors of our nation, from the window cleaner to the busdriver and all inbetween, will say NO to these liberals and dogooders and if i may say so stupid leftwingers.Mr Morris hits it right on the head and says it like it is,it's a sorry mess of political liberalism already and even worse will it get if we thank heaven didn't have checks and brakes from Presidents like Ronald Reagan and George Bush who can stand up to them, and I say this much, let's boot out the rest of the socalled elitist leftwingers hanging onto positions in washington next time we vote for a landslide reelection of our firm and steadfast president.Mr.Morris is right when he calls many of these leftwingers down right traitors to the America we all love and wants to see free and strong. Finally,in my opinion the 8 years that mr.Clinton and Ms Clinton ran the show in Washington did near fatal damage to our role as worldleaders in the eyes of both friends and foes, not easy done but that's what happened in my humble view.Mr.Morris has written a book straight from the heart and the truth is there for all to see,I know most americans think likewise.God Bless America.
Rating: Summary: You Must Read This Book!!!!! Review: I love Dick Morris' new book. It is a must read for anyone who is concerned about our country and our politics. Morris tells it like it is -- no excuses for one political party -- he goes after them both. The book is interesting, insightful, and at times, funny. I loved the chapter about the French and found myself shaking my head in agreement throughout. Its the kind of book you dont want to finish and intend to go back and re-read parts. I highly recommend it.
