Rating: Summary: Inside Delta Force Review: In a scale of 1-5 this book should get a 10. Absolutly awsome. It's truly amazing what the Delta boys do just to get in the unit, not to mension riding helicopters full of holes, leaking gas and hydrolic fluid. It's definity a must read to learn about the most unknown heros in the United States Military!
Rating: Summary: Read It and Liked It -- Alot! Review: The reviews for this book were pretty supportive and informative. Once I bought the book, it was very hard to put down. The narrative was smooth and descriptive. I had a solid idea about each of the topics he was talking about, which was surprising to me as, in my experience, most books like this gloss over the good parts like the training phase or the operations mentioned in the book.I think the author struck the right balance with telling us as much as possible with as much description as possible with out violating operational security or becoming boring. The topics he selected were a great blend of the various aspects of (what I would imagine) the Delta Force Community. I would readily recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the DELTA Force. You will get a solid, well-rounded picture that is detailed and honest. Read it and enjoy.
Rating: Summary: Tour D-Force - pardon the play on words Review: This book is about as good as it gets; its gonna sit right next to Rogue Warrior on my bookshelf. It was a total blast to read; the Grenada and Lebanon accounts were incredible. The book was written on a really personal level, like youre talking to the author in person, it really brings the story to life.... The Delta Force guys are professional warriors in the true sense of the word... Its amazing they can do their jobs considering BS that goes on in the political establishment, but that's not my story; read the book!
Rating: Summary: Top Stuff Review: Excellent book, very well written. Has humour in it that even Australian's can get. Gives a very good look inside the unit, and some very humorous depictions of the late warrior Charlie A Beckwith.
Rating: Summary: Must Read For Veterans and Non-Veterans Alike Review: I'm a veteran myself, 3 years in the Army Signal Corps in what was West Germany. Haney's account is a great read. Well-written and a great narrative of this dedicated career soldier's adventure in the US Special Forces (Delta). His account of the selection process was very interesting. I suspect that these guys will be on the front lines of the new Cold War, the war against terrorism. Thank the Lord for people like these guys - they're on OUR side.
Rating: Summary: We can all rest easier at night now Review: A very informative behind the scenes look at America's secret counterterrorist unit. From selective training to actual combat ops.....Eric Haney describes in colorful detail the process of putting an "operator" in the field....and the unique challenges facing each and everyone of them in their struggles to accomplish their mission with minimal loss of life. When I spotted this book in the "New Releases" section of Amazon recently.....it looked to be every bit of a fascinating read. I wasn't disappointed. Although current and ex-military people like myself might relate to this book a wee bit more than others, everyone will find this book to be very intriguing and definitely worth the time and effort spent reading it. We can all take comfort knowing these guys are out there each and every day protecting our most vital interests around the globe. Kudos Eric Haney.......the world is a much safer place to live thanks to Delta Force !!! J.B. Kruz KruzKontrol
Rating: Summary: Fascinating book Review: If you've ever had a hint of interest in what Delta is, what they do or how they're chosen, then read this book! I always wonder if the author is just BSing us, but I did not get that impression from Haney. Even though it's all first person, he always comes across as reserved and completely professional; none of the "Rogue Warrior's" testosterone laced prose. In todays world I believe it's all the more important for citizens to understand how we can combat terrorism. I'm glad Delta is on our side.
Rating: Summary: Inside Delta Force Review: One of the best books I have read! Gives alot of info on the training and selection of this elite group! If you liked Delta Force by Charles Beckwith or any of the Rogue Warrior books or BlackHawk Down - YOU WILL LOVE THIS BOOK!!! Hope to hear more from him!
Rating: Summary: A fact or two overlooked, but good Review: This is a very informative, if not abridged view of the Delta selection process and tactical development. Many details of the training are omitted. Beckwith's book illustrated many of the skills (locomotive operation, etc.) that may operators were trained for. The missions are bit underdiscussed. Most of them are the type where you would expect to see Delta elements employed. The one place I can find that Hainey perhaps failed to completely analyze a situation is when he writes about the Egyptair hijacking. He can't understand why the Egyptians threw away the CT unit Delta had trained for them and replaced it with hacks. Hainey doesn't factor that Egyptian President Sadat was assisinated by a members of a military unit during a parade. That was fresh in the minds of those government members who made the change. They probably feared such a unit could go renegade on them. Yet all in all, a great and informative book. Maybe augment it by reading Andy McNabb's Immediate Action.
