Summary: Thank you, Abbie Hoffman.
Review: Steal This Book defines everything that has been lost in Amerika. With new technology springing up every day and outdating Abbie's methods more and more, we find ourselves slowly becoming a part of the System. But this is not what he wanted. In the Introduction, he states, "It is perhaps fitting that I write this in jail-that graduate school of survival." If jail is the grad school, we must first educate ourselves in the high school and undergrad level--that is, our schools and the rest of the world. Remember everything that Abbie states. It is the most important thing you will ever read. Because as he also states, "A revolution in conciousness is no more committment than drinking milk and collecting postage stamps." Remember that you must never sell out to Corporate Pig Amerika, you must rebel against the abuses of the Man, and you must declare yourself a citizen of Free Nation. Strip the power of the corrupt and put where it belongs--the people of Free Nation!

Summary: Its hard to steal online, but worth buying!
Review: While the book's content is somewhat outdated, it is worth a read if you were a part of the 60's (and early 70's) or want a perspective of what many were thinking during that pivotal period in our history.

The technology is vastly outdated, but the political statements are not. Regrettably, it is VERY difficult to follow the late and great Abbie's advice and "steal this book" from Amazon. Nonetheless, if you read the book when it first came out, it is worth a reread. If you have not read it, I would recommend reading it for a wide variety of reasons. It gives a good historical perspective of the time, and aside from the outdated technology; much of the philosophical content is still quite valid.

And, of course, if you are planning to attend a riot at the WTO, etc., you can get some great advice on protecting your lungs from tear gas and your brain from batons. Not all of the advice is outdated. Some of the “projects” are still interesting and informative.

For just a small price, I think you can forgo stealing it and buy it here at Amazon.

Peace!

Summary: Wonderful book, especially for its time
Review: Hoffman was a genius for writing this book. Although most (though not all) methods put forth by this book are outdated, this book is still very interesting and useful. He talks about how to make molotov cocktails, pipebombs, how to street fight (for self defense), demonstrating, getting free food, and how to rip off payphones. I think its time for a new revised edition, though. This book also portrays the culture of the 1960's Vietnam era. It is full of interesting pictures. Buy this book, or better yet, steal it from your local barnes and noble

I really like Hoffman because he brought humor and fun into the struggle. I suggest you also read his autobiography

Summary: Survival Guide In The U.S.
Review: Abbie Hoffman's "Steal This Book" is generally a survival guide on how to live in the U.S. that is divided into 3 parts. The first chapters on how to get free stuff is brilliant. Some ideas in order to gain free service or items area so ironic, you'd probably not think of it yourself. In section two, Hoffman describes how to take action against oppression and what to prepare for. Bomb making, first aid, and the introduction to new common sense is delivered straight from the mind of Hoffman. The third section is the shortest, but if you happen to live in the big urban and metropolitan areas, it locates address and phone numbers on where to get free stuff in a more specific sense overall toward the book. Even if "Steal This Book" is mainly outdated, it comprises on a guide to a life in the U.S. and words of wisdom he used and recommends.

Summary: Sell Out
Review: Abbie Hoffman said in this book that freedom of the press only applies to those people that own a printing press. 30 years after writing this book in a jail (he should have spent more time there), media outlets are ubiquitous and spout every possible fringe political and cultural preferrence. Anybody can publish their crazy notions on a webpage. Nevertheless, Abbie Hoffman's ideas are still considered wacky by the masses. Most people greatly prefer consumerism, capitalism and imperialism over Abbie's quixotic ideals and life of petty crime. Let democracy prevail in this case. Dissenters please disappear into backwoods Montana and never be heard from again.

Abbie chronicles many different ways on how to cheat the system in this book. None of these methods still work. This book is useless except for comic and historical value. He should not have sold out his buddies for some dime bag royalties.

Summary: book of the century
Review: This book is priceless. So priceless it tells you to steal it. Inside the covers, you'll find genius ideas from Abbie's minds, even though some of them are outdated, or are now common knowledge. The first section is the one that i love most, telling us about getting or making free stuff. I had never heard of sandals made of tires before this book. The second chapter tells about pipe bombs, self defense for the street fighter, and various other tools of destruction. This book will make you think, and will tick off your teachers if they catch you reading it.

Summary: Better than a pipe full of gunpowder!
Review: First thing's first about this book; this book costs ten bones (TEN!) plus shipping. Don't let THE MAN break your back; don't shell out the cash!

Demand a copy of this book at a banana-point if necessary, just DO NOT buy it!

It is titled STEAL THIS BOOK for a reason, you sell out! Don't even think about openning that wallet!

Drive your lazy "Anarchistic" self down to the book store, walk in, pocket the goods, and walk out! It's easy!

It's a good book. Worth every penny you won't pay.

**I in no way endorse stealing (wink wink nudge nudge--this is in no way repealing my previous statement
)
