Rating: Summary: Add these reviews to the next edition Review: Laura Ingraham has done a fine job providing a telling, and often humorous, exposé of those who would be royalty in the U.S. You don't have to look far for more evidence supporting her observations: when you compare the reviews of the reviewers via the ratios given for those "who found this review helpful," it's obvious that most people don't think that much of what liberals say is of any help.
Rating: Summary: Who is subverting America? Review: If you have a lot of money, and are a conservative Republican, then and only then do you have a right to stand up and speak about matters important to our country. Well, that's pretty much the argument of this infantile book in which Ms Ingraham attempts to out-Coulter Anne Coulter, hoping that readers may mistake one conservative bimbo for another. Really, that's the core argument of this book. She is arguing against free speech, nothing less, and that's shameful, but increasingly typical of the right. Her appearance on Hardball a couple weeks ago to promote this book was particularly interesting - she couldn't defend even for a split-second the premise of this poorly-written, poorly-worded treatise for the righter than right. Chris Matthews tore her to shreds - and rightfully so. Maybe, Ms. Ingraham, celebrities who speak up for their beliefs are 1) merely courageous and 2) feeling that in some way they should capitalize on their idealism now that they are in the public light. How are you, TV pundit, any different? Maybe you should shut up and sing too...
Rating: Summary: Poorly Written! Review: This has to be the most poorly written book I have ever read. It reads as if it were thrown together overnight. The content is not very interesting either. Overall, has a very infantile feel to it. I would definitely not recommend purchasing this book. You can have my copy!
Rating: Summary: Strong, Well Reasoned Treatise - A Hidden Agenda? Review: This is a good book. I've always enjoyed Ms. Ingraham's strength of conviction and strength of intellect. Despite what some pundits think, she also has a great sense of humor. As I was reading this work, I couldn't help but think that this is Ms. Ingraham's way of trying to pick up votes in America's heartland in the 2004 election. Indeed, much of Ms. Ingraham's book tour targeted the Midwest. Although Ms. Ingraham has spent much of her life amongst the east coast elite and graduated from an Ivy League college, her values are old fashion Midwest, and she uses her values to appeal to those tired of snooty condescension and slick gamesmanship. There are many very important swing states in the Midwest, and Ms. Ingraham seems to be appealing to those who would like to see a return to the 1950s instead of the steady decline in morals and values of the last 30-40 years. Overall, a good book many should take seriously.
Rating: Summary: Fabulous!, Fabulous!, Fabulous! Review: Witty and Pithy. Great read. Recommend it and broaden your horizons.
Rating: Summary: The liberals are coming!! The liberals is coming!! Review: This is one of the best novels that I've ever had the pleasure of reading. Laura Ingraham is the Paul Revere of our times, warning us like Paul Revere did, of those who hate America and want to destroy it. They hate our liberty, our freedom, and all American values that real Americans fought so many wars to protect. I strongly urge everyone to buy at least 5 copies of this novel as part of their patriotic duty. This novel reveals who the elite are and how they operate. Trust me when I tell you that they hate ordinary Americans. This is because their liberals. For this reason their ideas must be eradicated. Again, you've got to read this novel. I've just had my first child this year and every night before she goes to sleep I read a chapter of this novel to her so they she will grow up with the values of family values, liberty and free speech. Buy this novel!! God Bless.
Rating: Summary: Poorly argued, infantile and arrogant Review: Congratulations to Laura Ingraham for her revival of kindergarten-level invective. "Shut Up and Sing" is poorly written and poorly argued--regardless of your political affiliation. One logical fallacy hangs upon the next, weaving a tattered lattice of finger pointing, blind rants and excruciatingly juvenile reasoning. I would give it zero stars if it were an option. Didn't I just read most of this book when Ann Coulter wrote it? Wasn't it just as shoddily researched and argued then? Yes, yes it was.
Rating: Summary: Laura Raises Valid Issues Review: ...Ingraham is devastatingly critical so I'm sure many will call her "mean and confrontational." To some, attacking their politics is much worse than attacking their religion--and poking fun at them is the worst sacrelige of all. How sad that a few who disagree with her aim their remarks at her looks, her gender, and her party affiliation. Surely none of these things affect the validity of her opinions, or are we getting back to chauvinism? Which of the things that were said in the book are inaccurate? Has she misquoted anyone specifically? Was her interview with Maya Jones accurate? She is obviously giving her point of view, but isn't that what every celebrity is doing when he or she derides George Bush's intelligence or his ethics? Did every news service need to report a decline in the presidents popularity ratings just before he gave his speech to the U.N? Isn't this "giving aid and comfort..."? I lived through World War II--looking at the bombers that flew over our house and praying that the war would end before they reached Europe or Japan. Books like this may help us to think twice before taking our country's benefits so much for granted. --My name is Mary, not Robert.
Rating: Summary: Look Out Franken, Maher, Moore...Finally, a Smash-Back! Review: Okay, forget left versus right, Dem versus GOP--the real dynamic that makes sense is the elites v. the rest of us. Ingraham is right--this arrogant bunch from the UN, universities, Hollywood, the media and politics have utter disdain for the way most of us live, and what most of us believe. From Bill Maher trashing organized religion, to Dominique de Villepin lecturing America's "cowboy ways," the elites' bitterness is oozing out all over. As Laura says, they are generally losing at the American ballot box, so they're using the courts, international organizations, the culture and universities as platforms to push their elite agenda. And this book is HYSTERICALLY funny as well as chock-full of all the supporting facts. A primer for conservatives and thoughtful liberals alike. The conclusion is very uplifting as well. Good stuff all around!
Rating: Summary: Shut up,and.. just SHUT UP! Review: I'm tired of blond Conservative C-words telling me how Anti-American I, and my family are (a lot of whom have distinguished military backgrounds in WW II, Korea & Viet Nam... my Uncle died in the Invasion of Normandy), simply because we are Democrats, and/ or LIBERALS. Where do you get off telling me I don't love my Country, or the brave men in my family who fought to save not just my, but your lame butts?! As usual Ingraham bases her "findings" on sweeping generalizations not grounded in fact. By the way, if you're so down on Liberals - examine the expensive clothes you wear... Liberal or Conservative designers? How about the cutesy - tootsie new haircut which renders your image a bit more "Hip" (Hip - or LIBERAL?). Why the need to appear stylish? Style and image acceptance seem to stem from that hideous Liberal Hollywood or (SHUDDER!) NEW YORK! A good Conservative wouldn't care how she looks. (Or was it just that you looked too much like Ann Coulter, and your Publicist suggested you change your hairstyle?) Practice what you preach (or screech...) - wear conservative! Go with Lands End & L.L. Bean... anything else makes you look like you're trying too hard. You're all merely flagrant opportunists cashing in on a trend. (Clinton bashing will always be profitable, if beside many a point) How about working towards partisan compromise? Neither side will have the exclusive way anyways. What part of "Compassionate Conservative" has been missed on you? Yeah... that's what I thought it was - just another empty idea aimed at getting more votes.
