Summary: Part Galileo, part Stephen King...brilliant & frightening
Review: "Afghanistan had been planned for several years prior to the terrible tragedy that occurred on 11th September on US soil...[It] then considers the development of Afghanistan as well as within the United States, as a consequence of the US-led military intervention that began Ocotber 2001....Neither the facts, nor the inferences I draw therefrom, are palatable. However, they are worthy of urgent consideration, not only from members of the public, but by our purported political leaders and representatives..."

"...Huey Long once said, 'Fascism will come to America in the name of anti-fascism'. I'm afraid, based on my own long experience, that fascism will come to America in the name of national security."

Nafeez Moseaddeq Ahmed, Preface
and quote from Jim Garrison, New Orleans
District Attorney, 1967, from the Conclusion
THE WAR ON FREEDOM

There are not words to describe the courage it will take anyone, conservative or liberal, left, right or center, to read this book from cover to cover and sit with the new world you will be looking at afterwards. Ahmed, through more than *six hundred* footnotes, political and historical analysis, quotes of everyone from European and Afghani political analysts to New York stockbrokers to American congressman and FBI agents--and some of the most erudite, plain language scholarship I have ever read--irrevocably changes one's view of history and current events such that one is left with the profoundly disturbing fact not by saying that his main theory is true, but by proving unqeustionably that it is POSSIBLE.

This is not an America-hating rant, the likes of which would make it the international antithesis (i.e. siamese twin) of much of the pro-American "literature" coming from the far right nowadays. This is scholarship the likes of which can only demand a paradigm shift in one's thinking, regardless of how you choose to reinterpret his fact-finding when you put the book down. If you've ever wondered what the Catholic bishops must have felt when reading the work of Galileo for the first time, or the Protestant community of the 19th century reading the work of Darwin, or what the Newtonian physics scientific community felt seeing Einstein prove his point about relativity, the scholarship of Ahmed will let you know in perhaps the most politically frightening way possible. Ahmed in fact, does not rely on the rogue scholars we are familiar with for the bulk of his work. He quotes BODY OF SECRETS: INSIDE THE NSA, the work of Gore Vidal like THE GOLDEN AGE, and 9-11 by Noam Chomsky as mere redundancies, adding to the mountain of evidence he has generated leading one to the inevitable conclusion that is the book's theme.

In the end, whether or not you choose to follow Ahmed to the end of his theories, you will be left with a totally new understanding of the secret architecture and raison d'etre of both modern history and modern war. If you didn't know that FDR knew the Japanese were going to attack Pearl Harbor because he set America up to be bombed in 1941 in order to get the isolationist minded American populace to join World War Two--and how he did it--you will learn it here. If you didn't know that there were plans in the military (kept classified until the Freedom of Information Act of 1975) of terrorizing and even killing American citizens in Miami and throughout Florida in such a way that it would look like Castro's military did it to justify an American invasion of Cuba in 1962, you will learn it here. If you didn't know that the total absence of military response to the hijacking of American planes before they hit the World Trade Center on Septemeber 11th is something that has NEVER happened before in FAA or military history, you will learn it here. If you had no idea of the unusual and otherwise inexplicably heavy trade on the stock market that took place days before Septemeber 11th regarding Airline and oil stocks, you will learn it here.

And if you can find a way to digest all of that, plus

1) hundreds of other provable historical/foreign policy facts of the European/American 20th Century from a plethora of credible sources--in and out of America--he brings to light,

2) the political/economic agendas behind the secret psychological architecture of modern day war explained with amazing clarity,

3) the revealing of our current Administration's relationship with International Oil cartels for the past three generations, and

4) the seemingly infinite number of both otherwise inexplicable anamolies AND examples of unprecedented ineptitude regarding both the intelligence community and the military's failure to prevent 9/11 from happening, WITHOUT coming to the same conclusions the writer of this book does...than God bless you.

I cannot.

This is just a little bit bigger than a phony land deal in Arkansas and some oral sex in the Oval Office. Ahmed makes it clear through the WAR ON FREEDOM that it is time for a full investigation of our Administration. If for no other reason as it will be the only thing that could make this nightmare of a book go away. There are some books every American should read to strengthen their own mind or enrich their own lives. This is one book every American needs to read in order to save our Nation's soul. Remain ignorant at the cost of your own freedom.

Summary: This Book is MUST Reading for Freedom Loving People
Review: Nafeez Mosaddeq Ahmed has assembled in one location the most complete set of information regarding the events leading up to and the day of the 9-11 attacks. The data is not pretty but is vitally important. For example, with 2 combat ready fighter squadrons in the, "highest state of alert" at Andrews Air Force Base, just 10 miles away from Washington D.C. and with at least 40 minutes of warning (actually over an hour) these jets were not scrambled to intercept (i.e. make visual contact with) the plane that flew into the Pentagon as standard NORAD operating procedures would demand. Unless and until a complete, public and INDEPENDENT investigation is conducted, the data leads me to believe that our government at least allowed the attacks to occur. Certainly the conduct of our leaders since 9-11 and the huge political currency they have reaped lends credance to this theory. People interested in this subject should also see... and follow those links. There are lots of people asking very simple questions that our corporate controlled media is trying its best to bury. Please take a proactive position in this matter. It is not an exaggeration to say that our freedom is at stake.

Summary: The Bitter Truth
Review: It's all here, all the news that you won't find on CNN-FOX-NBC et al, although an astonishing amount of stuff WAS published in papers like the Washington Post, and many of Ahmed's sources are mainstream. But while bits of the puzzle may leak out in the mainstream US media, the conclusion -- that the Bush administration, "through its actions and inactions, effectively facilitated the attacks, protected those responsible, blocked attempts to prevent the attacks, and maintained close political, financial, military, and intelligence ties to key figures who supported those responsible...." is unspeakable in the dominant US media, and to a large extent, even in the alternative media. This is unfortunate, because this is one of the most important stories of the last hundred years. We need to wake up to the monstrosity that our federal government has become, after 50+ years of catering to the military industrial complex. If we are ever going to reclaim our democracy and re-establish government of by and for the people instead of government of by and for the corporations and wealthy, we must be willing to unflinchingly face the crimes our government has committed and demand their accountability.

Summary: Fantastic Read! Find the truth!
Review: All the claims in this book are, indeed, verifiable. This is an amazing expose of the Bush Administration. For more on this same subject try David Icke's book called "Tales from the Time Loop." It will rock your reality.

Summary: An indispensable analysis of 9/11
Review: This extraordinarily well written and extremely well documented book provides an invaluable account of the events leading to the September 11 attacks. Nafeez argues that the failure of U.S. intelligence and the so called SOP (standard operating procedures) is highly suspicious and bewildering. According to strict FAA regulations, should any aeroplane deviate from its course, military jets are immediately sent to intercept the given plane. From the time the plane was hi-jacked, it took approximately 50 minutes before it crashed into the Twin Towers. According to Nafeez, the time it takes to dispatch a miltary jet from any given point in the U.S. is estimated roughly 5 minutes. The fact that these standard operating procedures failed on this very day makes one wonder whether or not U.S. intelligence really made an honest effort to intercept the hi-jacked plane. Also, the U.S. intelligence received extensive forewarnings that an unprecedented attack was going to take place in mid September targetting key buildings in the U.S. These warnings were blatantly ignored and their importance was downplayed by senior U.S. officials. Displaying a flagrant disregard for these imminent threats, these senior officials clearly obstructed a thorough investigation into the relevance of the warnings, an investigation which could have averted the attacks. The evidence presented in Nafeez's book is abundant, exhaustive and irrefutable and thus should not be overlooked. However, Nafeez claims that the evidence presented in his book is by no means conclusive but it is only his thesis supported by numerous facts. Granted, many questions regarding 9/11 still remain unanswered but this book offers an indispensable insight into the events leading and following the atrocious attack. Nafeez also theorizes why so many people worldwide loathe U.S. foreign policy and not as is often incorrectly claimed by corporate madia western modernity and prosperity. A great number of people throughout the world find certain elements of U.S. foreign policy highly unjust and discriminatory. According to Nafeez, it is going to be virtually impossible to obliterate terrorism unless U.S. alters its foreign policy. This book is an intellectual tour de force and in my view irrefutably the best documented book on the subject matter. Strongly recommended reading.

Summary: Gruesome ,dreadful book
Review: Author says terrorist attacks on WTC and Pentagon on Sep 11 2001 as contrived by Bush administration.Senior administration officials knew about impending terrorist strike from several sources but did nothing to block it.
Far back as 1995 Western intelligence knew Osama Bin Laden was contemplating to hijack aeroplanes to launch suicidal attacks on sensitive American targets.Plan called project Bojinka was first known when Phillipine police seized a lap-top computer of a terrorist linked to Al-Qaeda network from a hotel room in Manila.NSA,according to the author, had penetrated Bin Laden's secure communications helped by information-gathering system called ECHELON which monitors all electronic communications in the world.

.
Local FBI investigators wanted an intelli-surveill warrant to monitor activities of one Zacarias Moussaoui,an Islamic militant linked Bin Laden's Al-Qaeda network. He was undergoing flight training at Pan Am international Flight Academy at Egan Minnesota.Author says Govt's justice Dep plus top FBI officials turned down the request.
Four commercial flights took to air between 7.59am and 8.14am on Sep 11 2001.Attacks took place between 8.45am to 9.40am.Around 8.20am ATC noticed something seriously wrong.Brought to the notice of NORAD which incredulously did not respond promptly.Timely interception of errant planes would have deflected them from homing on to WTC towers and Pentagon.Author's research shows that airdefence forces had sufficent time to scramble fighters and effect that interception. This constituted clear-cut violation of FAA's standard established procedures governing emergency responses.Such course of action could not have been adopted without the approval of top administration officials.
Finally book contains some startling disclosures.Author says President's family had business links with Bin Laden's family through a defence concern called Carlyle group,Both families have benefitted from militarisation of American foreign under the cover of fighting terrorism.Senior administration officials know that Saudis have been channeling money to Al-Qaeda but has done nothing to stop it.US ,few occasions in the past had opportunity of seizing Osama but chose not to do so.In 1996 Sudanese govt was willing to hand over Bin Laden;offer was rebuffed.
Above facts sound disturbing, cynical. Is war on terrorism a charade? It looks that Bush administration was willing to compromise the safety, security of American people for the sake of establishing US hegemony upon Eurasia .Is this not a stark manifestation of human depravity? Decide it for yourself. I feel it is too early to draw any firm conclusion.Author's arguments, however, cannot be dismissed.Impartial ,independent high-level judicial enquiry needs to be constituted to probe into the events leading upto Sep 11 terrorist attacks ,for that will ascertain the veracity of facts contained in the book.
Neverthless reader of the book is forced to conclude American foreign policy is nothing but deceitful ,unscrupulous, opportunistic, hypocritical.

Summary: A miscalculated provocation
Review: This formidably documented book is not a final verdict on the 9/11 attacks, but it clearly exposes some very strange and disturbing facts. Into the bargain, it poses the right question: who benefited?

The author presents a strong case that the 9/11 attacks were a miscalculated provocation - the extent of the damage was grossly underestimated.
To support his thesis, Ahmed piles up a wealth of information: e.g. the leader of the 9/11 attacks received money from the chief of the Pakistani intelligence, who acted in accord with other US covert actions; the Taliban and the madrasas were set up by the US; the FBI's failure to apprehend suspected terrorists was the result of high level blocks; an inquiry into this intelligence failure was also blocked; Bin Laden had powerful protectors in Washington; intelligence agencies had extensive advance warnings of the attacks and were in various ways complicit in those attacks; the US defence system had amply the time to intercept the hijacked planes, but did nothing ... One can go on!

Apparently, powerful elements in the intelligence community and the Bush Administration believed that a 'minor' damage would contribute to a 'greater good' for those in power. This greater good was 'still more power to the powerful': the Pentagon, the CIA, the FBI, the weapons industry, the oil industry and their Bush Administration.

In fact, those are the winners of the 'War on Terror', by giving nearly almighty power to the intelligence units: a coup d'etat against the US constitution with curtailment of civil liberties, basic freedoms and human rights. On the other hand, the US defence budget reaches new highs and military intervention with nuclear weapons is now planned. A peace dividend is farther away than ever.

The author explains clearly the geostrategic importance of Afghanistan for the exploration of the enormous oil and gas reserves in the Caspian region.
He even predicted the military intervention in Iraq.

This is a very disturbing and frightening book with a perfect title. A must read.

Summary: A Troubling Eye Opener
Review: A wonderful book that presents facts that will shock the reader. The section on the failure of Standard Operating Procedures on September 11th is a reason alone to buy this book. The author doesn't seem to like Bush very much, but unlike other books, he is not rude about it, simply critical of actions that the Bush administration should answer for. It definitly makes one worry that the government would willingly allow an attack on its own land, but that is what this author suggests (an argument that he upholds with amazing evidence from documents as well as verbal interviews). A must buy for all those looking for answers behind the attacks on America.
