Rating: Summary: Don't underestimate Carville Review: I've been reading many of the analysis books of the Bush-Cheney administration. All of them have been informative, well written, especially Ron Suskind's "The Price of Loyalty." But, I found James Carville's book witty, well-written, and informative. I learned a lot from this book. It was broken down into issues. He identified a problem. Gave the Bush administration's response. And then he gave the "Had Enough" response. Sure, Mr. Carville criticized GW's malfeasance, lies, baits and switches, on and on and on. But, Mr. Carville had constructive proposals for reforming problems, such as: medicaid and social security, corporate governance, tax cuts: when they are desired and when they are destructive, taxes, running deficits and the effects of doing so, etc. Mr. Carville's structure was identify the issue, explain the workings of a government program or action or inaction, and set out how Republicans handle the issue, and how Democrats or progressives should handle the issue. I was hesitant about getting this book. Finally I did, and I'm glad I did. I'm scared for this nation if the Bush, Republicans, and corporations continue exerting their power irresponsibly for another 4 years. With all that's out there about the lies, concealments, insider trading, baits and switches that is Bush's MO, I'm wondering why the polls are so close concerning the presidential election in November. Does no one read? I guess what's good enough for Dubya is good enough for them. Ignorance is going to strangle the life out of this country. I hope not, but that's what I'm scared of. Read this book and share it with your friends. The Democrats have the best ideas, the most compassionate ideas. It is the people, stupid. It's all about people. And the meaning of "people" doesn't include corporations -- that's another book: see Thom Hartmann's "Unequal Protection" for that discussion, or Gerry Spence's "Justice for None".
Rating: Summary: A BIG thanks Review: Of all the political books on the market right now (and I have read most of them), this is the best. A must read for anyone interestead in sending Bush back to Texas in November.
Rating: Summary: Every progressive should read this. Review: One of the best outlines for taking back our country that I have had the pleasure to read. Mr. Carville, who I regard as a maniac, is none the less an intelligent and thinking one and his solutions for many of the ills that ail us are stunning in their simplicity and thus unlikely to ever happen. Particularly wonderful is his remedy for the role of money in our political process. Buy it, give it to everyone you know. The Republicans won't read it but maybe they will regift it to someone with intelligence.
