Rating: Summary: almost there Review: A good overview of the decay and nihilism of so much of contemporary culture. The author contributes much of it to the damaged narcisistic personalities of the cultural elites. She neglects however the intellectual foundations of those personalities and their grounding in marxism. She doesn't seem to consider the idea that much of the attack on contemporary culture is political in nature and deliberate in its intentions, and seeks a specific goal.I found it good, though, to find that some of my own observations about our cultural climate aren't entirely off base--- somebody actually wrote a book about it.
Rating: Summary: finally some common sense Review: A very very enlightening and disturbing book, all at the same time. Don't presume this book is all just political banter. It goes much deeper. I had heard bits and pieces but never seen actual researched facts on these issues. A must read for parents. This book was not just politically related but also dealt with what seems to be a frightening scarcity of common sense in today's society. It really exposed the dark side of special interest groups and the backing they receive from political parties. Believe me it's not usually your interests or you're family's these groups have at heart. Tammy Bruce knows this having been a part of these groups in the past and can tell this from a first hand experience. She has seen both sides of the fence. Her book is well researched and written. All this along with her background just intensifies her credibility. It was a real eye opener for me and a call to action as a parent of a small child. It reminded me of a quote " All evil needs to prevail is for good men (and women) to do nothing". Thank you Tammy Bruce for letting us know what was happening while our backs were turned.
Rating: Summary: The Truth Requires Courage Review: Americans must make a choice. We have a difficult road of doing what is responsible and right, or the opposite road of doing what is easy, without principle or discipline. Tammy Bruce does something powerful. She steps up to do what is right and tells her story from the inside. It requires courage to tell the truth-and she does! In "The Death of Right and Wrong," she warns the reader not to fall victim of losing our culture, values, and honesty. She writes with experience, specifics, and guts.
Rating: Summary: Thought Provoking, Intelligent, and Entertaining Review: Anyone reading this boot has to walk away admiring Tammy Bruce's integrity and courage. Yes -- she has passion, and the book reflects this. But this is understandable given that she is discussing contemporary challenges to the core values, beliefs and ideas of this country. Who wouldn't be passionate? The book is well-written, well-researched, thought provoking and quite entertaining. As a college professor, I read about a book a week. I buy from Amazon.com all the time but this is the first time I've written a book review for their website. Why? Because of the hysterical and unprofessional tone of the review written by Publishers Weekly. The review simply doesn't reflect the work. It lacks balance. It is embarrassing. Tammy Bruce deserves better. She takes on weighty philosophical issues like the late Ayn Rand and like Rand she is being assaulted with invectives. Reviews of Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" were of the ad hominem nature of the Publishers Weekly. But her works continue to sell over 100,000 copies a year -- well after her death. By the way, Rand's lilliputian literary critics are long forgotten. Read this fascinating book. It addresses the crucial, contemporary philosophical and cultural issues of the day. It is also as much about our future. It talks about national character and character defines destiny. Arrange for a block of uninterrupted time. The book is hard to put down.
Rating: Summary: Excellent and Highly Instructive Review: Bruce hits the nail on the head again. Her ability to convey the skewed thinking of the Left and why many damaged individuals end up in left-wing activism is uncanny and unrivaled. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in seeing exactly what the Left is bent on doing to this country and what their motives are in such efforts. "The Death of Right & Wrong" is a big-time eye-opener -- unsettling at times -- but flawlessly explained, detailed and researched. Buy this book for yourself and for those you care about.
Rating: Summary: Moral relativity is killing America Review: Bruce makes a very lucid and strong argument that the Elite Left are mentally unstable and need of mental health professionals. Her case is very tight in regards to the Elite Left wanting to degrade the American psyche and strength. A must read for parents. This book woke me up to what my children are going to face and what I can do about it.
Rating: Summary: Swing to the Right Review: Conservative icon Ronald Reagan had a favorite saying while running for President, which simply was " Well, there you go again. " A quote he was fond of using in attempting to sound exasperated whilst an opponent would be in the midst of trying to make a point during debates. An effect tool no doubt. Well, I find after picking through Tammy Bruce's self-contained Conservative screed, smugly titled " The Death of Right and Wrong " I, for once, find myself in agreement with Mr. Reagan. Is it my imagination or indeed has a cottage industry been born with Neo- Conservative authors cranking out these extremely sad excuses of hate-filled and finger pointing diatribes? Whether it be Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter ( the Rights favorite mini-skirted pitbull! ) or current flavor of the month Michael Savage they seem intent on saving America from itself. Of course the question that comes to mind simply is, " Who asked them? " Ms. Bruce makes a point of trotting out, what at this point, has become the 'usual suspects' in attempting to defend her less-then-sterling thoughts on subjects such as feminism, moral values, our education system and of course the grandaddy of them all....the Left and how they are still the scourge of our nation. God knows tripe such as this has all been done so many times before so I can only assume that Ms. Bruce is simply pandering to a largely Conservative/Right-wing consumer who can't seem to get enough of this sort of heavy-handed, foaming-at-the mouth brand of politicizing. A brand of journalism that simply has little time for any genuine thoughtful, constructive analysis regarding todays complex issues. I simply must question ( as we all should ) as to what is the authors intent in releasing a book that largely ignores any semblance of honest, intuitive thinking and balanced reporting. Why does it seem as though writers of these self-stylized 'hate-fests' resort to pandering as though we as Americans are simply far too thick to understand todays moral questions and require these authors to show us the way. You would think Ms. Bruce was Moses himself descending Mt. Sinai with the Ten Commandments! I find that I generally don't enjoy books where the author is so obviously speaking down to his/her readers. And all the while, not unlike a television evangelist, becoming increasingly shrill. Though I must say that I was greatly entertained by Ms. Bruces idea of aged rocker Ozzy Osbourne as a " moral terrorist. " That in itself may give readers a small idea as to the desperate attempts this author will stoop to in trying to prove her not-so subtle point of view. It does make one wonder if Ms. Bruce checks her closets for Liberals before turning in each night. Overall, I found " The Death of Right and Wrong " to be a thoroughly shallow and ultimately guilty of the proverbial " America, love it or leave it " mentality. Another unfortunate example of 'been there, done that' witch-hunt! Like so many Conservative writers before her Ms. Bruce wraps herself in the American flag and like the proverbial bully in the school yard dares any reader to disagree.
Rating: Summary: Thank you Tammy!!! Review: Excellent book...picked it up along with Mona Charen's "Useful Idiots". I have read Ms. Bruce's first book, the new 'Thought Police', and highly recommend it as well. This lady has seen the light...though still a democrat and self proclaimed feminist, Tammy Bruce has FAR more common sense than the modern left in this country. This book should be required reading for every registered democrat. 5 stars.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic! Review: Finally gay conservatives are coming out of the closet, not by opening the door but smashing right through it. I challenge every gay/lesbian/straight person to read this provcative book. She demonstrates that gay/lesbians are breaking out of the construct that we are all of one monolithic thought. This is true "diversity" in action. This book is the mother of all weapons in fighting the destructive far left. Gary
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book! Review: Finally, somebody has the guts to take on the lies of the left! Tammy is totally fearless in exposing the truths that most of the left are AFRAID to say out loud: 1.That Mumia Abu-Jamal IS GUILTY of murder of Philadelpia police officer Daniel Falkner 2. It's okay to attack and mock Christianity, but if you say anything negative about Islam or Muslims it's RACIST 3. We musn't criticize HIV positive homosexuals who caught AIDS through reckless, careless unprotected sex- they're simply poor victims who have suffered enough and it's politically incorrect to hold them responsible for their own actions 4.That some blacks are so indoctrined into the "whitey is out to get us" that when a person of color commits a horrific crime such as rape or murder, heaven forbid we punish them- after all, the white man in charge of the system of economic diadvantage gave them no choice but to act out in such an irresponsible manner- we musn't punish them...IT'S RACIST And the list goes on. Tammy hits every nail on the head with the hammer of truth...and then some! From the N.O.W. organization to Planned Parenthood, she rips aside the veil of hypocrasy and double standards that for some reason America has become afraid to question what theyknow in their hearts to be true, but shut up for fear of being branded POLITICALLY INCORRECT, RACIST, and UNFAIR. America, listen up: BUY THIS BOOK!! I can't begin to describe how exhillarating it is to read the work of somebody WHO FINALLY HAD THE GUTS to say the hell of what the Neo Nazi left says or thinks- THIS IS HOW IT REALLY IS. And guess what America? SHE'S RIGHT. Believe me, you'll find yourself standing up on your own two feet, cheering her on as she decimates the Lefts Lies with a one, two...no, roundhouse kick to the solar plexis. This book is a riveting read. This will be the best $25.00 you will ever spend. BUY THIS BOOK!!! Tammy, you are to be congradulated for writing this excellent expose. You've got more guts than group of 1,000 feminists outside a Promise Keepers convention! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!
