Summary: A very important book on a serious subject
Review: It would be very easy to lump this book in with the ever-growing pile of "ain't the Left awful" or the "Let's dump on the Clintons" books. This book is neither, and if the phenomenon of Malignant Narcissism that Ms. Bruce describes didn't hit so close to home, I would think this book was overly alarmist and sensational. The fact is, I KNOW these people exist, and not just in Hollywood and Manhattan. These people are in our schools, churches and even in our families.

The book opens with a review of how Ms. Bruce defines right and wrong - a useful exercise in an era of situational ethics and moral relativism. Her definition is made clearer since she is an athiest, and does not have to address religious moral principles. Then she describes her past, including her fight for gay and lesbian rights, her pro-choice stance, and her former role in NOW.

She then describes how these causes have been hijacked by extremists that she refers to as the Malignant Narcissists. She details how they become the way they are and how their ultimate goal is to produce a world full of similar-minded people. This is not "Invasion of the Body Snatchers"...this threat is REAL. These people exist and I can assure you that I have encountered them in undergraduate and graduate school, in my professional life, in my religious life, and sadly, in my social life.

Ms. Bruce then closes with a very sad story about the twisted motives of some very pathetic people. The only thing I found uplifting is that there are still people whose politics are very different than mine that I can admire. Ms. Bruce showed true courage writing this book, and has demonstrated her willingness to face ethical issues head on, and not shrink from the consequences of her prior actions. Ms. Bruce is the kind of person I would love to sit beside on a flight from Los Angeles to Sidney, Australia. I believe we would find a great number of areas where we can agree, and would come away with new respect for each others' positions.

Summary: Misguided Right wing panderer
Review: Ms Bruce attempt to teach us whats right and wrong by holding the left responsible for all the Ills in our society falls way short. Her spin is really fascicm rolled up in the guise of being a morally superior culture, this book is as unreadable as her unlistenable talk show. Finger pointing never gets results, especially when the finger pointers have a history of being the proprieters of slavery, genocide and child and immigrant labor exploiters

Summary: Reformulation for the left
Review: Ronald Reagan reinvented the American conservative movement by adopting traditional conservative tenets and infusing them with optimism for the future. Bruce takes traditional liberalism, but rejects the cult of the victim that the current Left establishment embraces. After Bruce prescribes a dose of introspection and responsibility, her platform is complete. Perhaps Bruce and her ideas can regenerate the rational Left in our country like Reagan energized the conservatives.

There are many graphic depictions about the subversion of many of the iconic movements in liberalism, many of which are not suitable for young readers. And yet it is the young that many of their repulsive ideas are aimed. These depictions are not gratuitous and help illustrate the need for reform.

Relativism in all its forms is the enemy of progress. Read "Fashionable Nonsense" by Sokal for a similar treatise in the social sciences. While it is a more "intellectual" and less far-reaching than Bruce's book, both of these authors are liberals that decry the high jacking of their movement by the self-interested/self-absorbed.

Bruce merely seeks equality of opportunity for each American and a reduction in the hateful soliloquy coming from the left. She pines for the days of yore, when the discussion was how to make America better for all of its people as opposed to the balkanization from groups seeking entitlement. She takes to task the leadership of several groups like Gays, Nat Org of Women, NAACP and the entities that do their bidding like the media, activist judges and the professorial class. She could have mentioned seniors or others that arrive on the national stage demanding a hand out because of their "entitlement" and "victimhood".

Summary: Very Insightful and Unique
Review: Tammy Bruce brings a unique perspective to a book that on the surface is very similar to Hannity, Savage, and others. I thought her feminist past made her insights even more important. She cannot be painted as a right-wing extremist by any means. I am quite excited about trying to find her other book, Thought Police, because she has a very clear, easy-to-read style. I enjoyed the way she dabbled in many areas, ranging from Clinton to Andrea Yates and the Osbournes. It kept you from being bored, and she drew them together nicely under the umbrella of moral relativism and "the death of right and wrong."
... The only minor criticisms I have are that she brings up her lesbian feminist background again and again, even though it's clearly stated in the beginning of her book. There are minor errors that should be corrected in future printings... I THINK at one point she has "Lakeland" instead of Lakewood, and also has a wrong word in the title of a Michelle Pfeiffer movie. But that's only quibbling.
I liked the way she didn't bring up the same old things that we have heard from Rush, Hannity, and Savage. There are new stories that provoke outrage and/or laughter. You should read this book whatever your political persuasion.

Summary: Tammy Bruce does it again
Review: Tammy Bruce does it again!!! In her first book "The New Thought Police" Tammy reveals the pathetically juvenile and sometimes infantile tactics and or aspersions of the " Lunatic-Fringe Left". Tammy, being what most people would describe as a " Classic Liberal" is blessed with the virtue and consciense of a "True American" and therefore solidifies herself as a " Lady", a title and or description which is becoming increasingly difficult to justify for a large majority of women today, regardless if said woman is from the left or the right.

Buy this book today, you will not regret it.

Summary: LIBERAL OR CONSERVATIVE? SHE'S BOTH!
Review: Tammy Bruce is many things - lesbian, former NOW official, and pro-choice. She is also an independent thinker as evidenced by this book. Ms. Bruce is relentless in her argument that the moral relativism espoused by the left has paralyzed the morals of our nation. No one is spared her wrath as she pillories the likes of Bill Clinton, radical feminists and gays, black elites, even satanic metal man Ozzy Osbourne. The "malignant narcissism" she so aptly describes reigns supreme today. One thing is for sure - the democrat party was hijacked long ago by a frightening cast of characters to whom basic truth is anathema. When they took a hard left, they deemed almost anything and everything as acceptable. Those who question certain behaviors of politicians, their policies, or favored groups are automatically labeled as intolerant, hateful, or mean spirited. Ms. Bruce also sounds a clarion call for the return to honest, respectable discourse which was abandoned by the left years ago to please an increasingly radical base and to further political ambitions. Conservatives will love this book because it redeems their credibility in so many ways. Open minded, conservative to moderate democrats (yes, there are still a few) will accept it as a truthful assessment of today's liberalism by one of their own. In short -a must read for people of all political stripes.

Summary: Courageous
Review: Tammy Bruce's "The Death of Right and Wrong" is a truly courageous book which depicts the leadership of those who influence what we see and hear every day as a group of misdirected, intolerant, and self-destructing ideologues. Ms. Bruce makes a clear distinction between the foot soldiers and advocates for gay rights, civil rights, and women rights from their leadership which continues to preach victimization and demonization of those that honestly differ. With unshakeable facts and insider reporting revelations, Ms. Bruce uncovers an unseamly world of hidden agendas and idealogical/political alliances which seek to undermine family values and moral certainty. Before you jump to conclusions, this is not a paranoical conspiracy theory or warning against terror lurking underneath one's bed. Rather, it is a hard look at what she calls the Left Elite's world view of nihilism and narcissism and how they are trying to accompish their goals through the theory of moral relativism. Examples of this include their push to validate adult-child sex, the dismissing of religious concerns from any discussion because it stands in their way, the contrived messages of victimization of minorities to alienate their members from white America, and the demonization all those who voice dissent as biased, race baiters or homophobes. She goes into great detail about the tactics used such as message softening and sympathetic catch-phrases to deceive a tolerant public, to the behind the scenes arm twisting of members to conform. She also goes after the media and university elite who report what they want us to see and teach us only what they believe in. What validates her well researched and pointed criticism is that she came from their leadership ranks and is a strong, tireless, advocate for the noble causes which they have in truth abandoned. A self-avowed feminist, lesbian, and agnostic, Ms. Bruce understands and values opposing positions and even takes some shots at the Right Elite which she considers equally dangerous and bankrupt. This is a must read for liberals, conservatives, and moderates; pro-lifers and pro-choicers; gays and straights; agnostics and believers; minorities and whites; men and women. Ms. Bruce's work qualifies as the bridge that can connect us all through her emphasis of tolerance and personal responsibility. Compromise and accomodation can, in her view, settle many differences, but first the American public must reject those that seek to separate and destroy.

Summary: Good but not great
Review: Tammy Bruce's book is a good book, fast read and interesting but is both too shallow and weirdly printed to be great. I'll explain. FIrst the bold headers every five paragraphs or so are off putting, but allow her to change topics fast and make the book seem more stream of conscious.

Also I agree with much of what she has to say and find her arguments plausible for the most part. Her tactic is to use specific instances and build from there. Sometimes, like with NOW and the Gay Alliances she builds to a unifying point. Other times (TV and media) she builds to many examples but not further.

The book is worht reading, but it is not Bill Bennett.

Summary: Popular Polemic On Moral Relativism
Review: Tammy Bruce's new book is more of a contniuation from her last book, where she is able now to expound that the decline in America's moral fabric is the result of the "left's" assualt on the mainstream of American values. She chronicles the assault as the left manipulates the media, higher and elementry education, the justice system and much more.

She sets a backdrop for moral standards by quickly (a little to quickly) reviewing the Cardinal virtues and largely relying on the great C.S. Lewis' descriptions of these virtues. She, throughout her book writes a lot on humanity and that those who may disagree with others, can -should, still be concerned for their political/social opponents and not wish ill will on anyone: something she says she noticed a lot from the Left - including once, herself. She is open and candid - something often missing from the left and the right.

This book works very well on a populist level because her arguments are made by using the reality of outragous prima facia evidence that "something is rotten in the state" of the US. Her examples are alarming. However, she rarely uses logical arguments and therefore the reader is left with a lot of examples with what is wrong, but not of a way to articulate why it is wrong. She possibly should have used more material work by C.S. Lewis called "The Abolition of Man" (since she was already refrencing Lewis anyway).

For a popular, yet logical/apologetic book on moral relativism, read "Relativism: "Feet Firmly Planted in Mid-Air" by Frank Beckwith and Greg Koukl and/or "C.S. Lewis for teh Third Millennium" by Peter Kreeft.

Lastly, Bruce is an extremely talented writer. I find her two books to be more engrossing than most contempary social critics and would have given this book 5 stars, but the lack of teaching the reader logical argumentation and not quite developing "The Cardinal Virtues" leaves this book at 4 stars. She is a talented writer who I hope writes many more books to come - entertaining and thought provoking.

Summary: FINALLY...
Review: Thank you Ms. Bruce, I loved the no holds barred honesty in this book. It was as if I was reading a 21st century version of The Emperor's New Clothes.
