Rating: Summary: One word: masterpiece Review: Some people have complained, both to me and on this website, that this book was "too hard". Several other young reviewers have complained that they didn't understand it, and that it "had no plot". Well, honey, I feel horrible for those people, because they obviously don't know a plot when they see one! This author must have INVENTED plot! Too hard? For a 6th GRADER?!? I am currently in 9th grade, but I read this book when I was in 2nd grade. I found it intriguing and beautifully written. Anyone with an imaginative soul can experience this book for the creative, fine piece of literature it is. Ms. L'Engle is a genius, the finest writer of her time, and I applaud her for it. Meg Murrey is a splended character. She is vivid in her distress, and I could really identify with her lonesome feelings. Charles-Wallace is endearing yet respectable. He's quaint and cute, but he makes you respect him always. "IT" was a perfect manifestation of evil. It didn't simply look evil, it felt evil. This book is a masterpiece, and should be treated as such. In our society, many people my age watch TV, and don't LIKE to read. It makes my heart break, for they know not what they're missing.
Rating: Summary: This book is great Review: This book is relly exiting. It made me think
Rating: Summary: I am 21 and Review: have just read this book for the first time. I was enraptured. I'll read it again, it seems to be a masterpiece dealing wonderfully with the "big questions". I am amazed.
Rating: Summary: a 20th century fairy-tale Review: Though this book is generally regarded to be science fiction, I consider it to be more fantasy, in the mode of a folk tale or fairy tale. It plays out classic folklore themes using contemporary American children, rather than misunderstood stepchildren, neglected third sons or witches. If you're looking for classic science fiction, you're bound to be disappointed, because the story is formulaic and too expected. But the characters of Meg and Charles Murry and Calvin O'Keefe are exquisitely drawn, and you will be able to identify completely with these very real children.
Rating: Summary: Two Thumbs Up! Review: Great One Of The Best Books I Have Read In a Long Time
Rating: Summary: loved it : ) Review: I loved the book. Our teacher had us read it in forth grade, now I'm in ninth, and ever since it's been my FAVORITE FAVORITE book. I read it twice a month all the time. Even now I don't understand all of it. Little by little I've understood more and more but I think everyone should read this. It's great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Mysterious, eerie... what is the tesseract? Review: This very interesting science fiction book introduces you to the fifth dimension and the tesseract. Our favorite character was Charles Wallace, the super-intelligent baby. Meet the transforming Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who and Mrs. Which and get revved up for an adventure through time and space. Usually the hero in a book is perfect and the evil guy is flawed. This time, the good person is flawed and the evil one is perfect. This book was very different in lots of ways and adds a whole new dimension to the reading world. For example, the language is more complex than a lot of other books and that makes it more interesting and challenging. It can also be frightening, especially to people who have little siblings because you can imagine what it would be like to have the things happen to your brother or sister that happened in this book. You'll have to read the book to find out. (The Newton Boys Reading Circle: Ben, Danny and David).
Rating: Summary: Imaginative, engaging and unforgettable Review: As a child, I read this book at least 20 times. I absolutely loved its ingenious story, and I found the idea that we could travel to other dimensions terribly fascinating. I read all the books in the series, but always came back to this one, following Meg--who you really come to identify with--on her adventures. A completely amazing book. I can't recommend it highly enough.
