Summary: Exposes the evil of the left
Review: A reviewer was correct in stating Buchanan never exactly defines what Western Civilization is. In one sentence: it's the belief that Rights flow from the Creator and government exists to serve the individual, not the other way around.

All other nations, even our benevolent allies, still have governments that place themselves above their citizenry, while America is the opposite. It is for this reason alone that America stands supreme as the light and envy of the world.

Buchanan makes a well-documented argument that Europeans and White Americans are not reproducing fast enough to stay in balance with other racial groups (and trouble is brewing, such as overpopulated China licking its chops, eyeing the lands it lost to Russia). Barring a plague or world war, it seems realistic that by 2050, and definitely by 2100, the White race will be a solid minority due to many factors: widespread birth control, "relaxed" morals and, depending on your viewpoint, either spoiled decadence or simply more freedom of choice.

A diminishing Euro-American population alone would not be as alarming, except that the concept of "E Pluribus Unum" and the values which make the American Way superior are being deliberately undermined by the organized American left (as opposed to the end-user leftist, who knows only feel-good mantras like "social justice" without any idea of the real costs of undefined, reckless dogma).

In European countries already under the yoke of full-blown socialism, the undermining is hundreds of times worse.

Whatever race ends up the majority in America after Whites will make no difference if all of them are programmed socialists or islamo-fascists.

The challenge of living in a free society is that the saboteurs of the fascist-left have just as much freedom to express their views; even though once they assume power they rescind that freedom for others.

If Buchanan is specifically speaking out against minorities, like his racist, anti-White, anti-Gentile detractors claim, I didn't see it. Immigrants who have been the most successful arrived at our shores ready to fully embrace the American Way of life, including learning English, studying, saving money and jumping into the capitalist system with both feet. Why the left views these positive aspects as hated artifacts is less a mystery than an alarm for all freedom-lovers.

These immigrants know the failures of socialism from their countries of origin, the very failures the left hopes to recreate here in the USA, and this latter *is* cause for alarm.

Buchanan is right about yet another point: the leftists pushing their garbage don't believe in it any more than the Right does. They know the B.S. they're selling---with all its glorious multicultural equality-at-gunpoint nonsense (which were it true means that witch doctors are 'just as good' as heart surgeons) is drastically inferior to Western Civilization and incapable of forming a cohesive, lasting and just society. But if their promotion of evil brings them power and wealth in the short term, then it's OK, screw the consequences.

Heed the warnings of Death of the West.

Lefties demand that Americans be ashamed of their shared heritage and forget their history. Will you STAND UP to their evil subversion (there's no better way to describe it) or go out 'not with a bang but a whimper' like they demand?

Summary: Read it if you're Curious of the Hows and Whys of "PC"
Review: Buchanan's book "death of the west" points out an undeniable demographic trend: That if current birthrates and immigration patterns continue, whites will be out-numbered in the nations they created. No one argues about this. The only arguement is whether it is good or bad. Curiously the same people who say its racism to oppose this say it's 'good'. Bucahanan asks the obvious:: why? why is it good and how did we come to the point where we welcome our destruction? How does having, say, California become 50% hispanic spanish speakers benifit americans who live there? Does anyone honestly believe it does?

Are the Chinese Opening their doors and looking forward to being outnumbered by indian immigrants? No.
Do indians allow ANYONE but indian disaspora to immigrate to their country? No. And no one is asking them to.

But curiously, EVERYONE DEMANDS this of the west. Buchanan outlines the marxist schools of thought that brought about this change - and how they have (in disproportion to their numbers) influenced the critical bodies of education, goverment and religion.

As always with these books - beware of the charges of 'critics' that the book is 'racist' -usually when one makes this shrill charge, they have no recourse in reason.

A simple litmus test of any ethnic activist is this:: if dissolution of the white west is good, then why don't they advocate this for their own ethinic groups and countries?

Summary: Thought provoking!
Review: I read this book cover to cover, and I must say that it is well-written and extremely interesting. Buchanan basically asserts that the "cultural revolution" of the 1960's and 70's totally overturned the culture not just of America but of all of Western Civilization. A main topic in this book is birth rates, which are at historic lows in Europe and America ("The West"). Buchanan argues that 2050 will see the world as a vastly different place, with Islamic tidal waves of immigration crashing into Europe, Latin American immigrants taking over the United States, and exploding third-world populations. The thought of this is a fearful one to many, and Buchanan shows why we should be wary. He also takes on revisionist historians, and some Republicans who he says are reluctant to join in on the culture wars. Overall, Buchanan paints an incredibly gloomy portrait of the world by the middle of this century, and he backs up many of his assertions with meticulous statistics.

After reading this book, I felt, like many others, disturbed at the trends Buchanan portrays. So I set out to do some research on the subject. What I found is that it is very true that European and other Western nations have low birth rates compared to the rest of the world and compared to historical rates. However, one KEY FACT that Buchanan omits and I don't believe even eludes to, is that birth rates are dropping like a rock in developing (third-world) nations as well. I predict that by 2050, more likely earlier, birth rates in the West and the rest of the world will be much more similar. For example, Buchanan leads his readers to believe that the population of Iran is exploding out of control. However, he omits a huge fact that Iran's birth rate has fallen from an enormous 44 births/1,000 population to only about 17 births/1,000. Its present rates are below the world average and are not enough even to sustain the population indefinitely. This is just one example of facts that are omited that do not bode very well for such a gloomy picture. Nearly every country in the world, EXCEPT FOR EUROPE, recorded a drop in their birth rate from 2002-2003.(for good info on the topic see the CIA World factobook) It appears that European governments are becoming increasingly aware of the "birth dearth" and are slowly begining to take action.

Overall, this is the message I have: this is a great book, very informative, but to all those who read it and felt awfully gloomy: CHEER UP! The picture is not as frightening when you look at all the facts!

Summary: An easy read, and important subject matter
Review: I should first mention that Amazon cut a special deal and I bought Bernard Goldberg's "Bias" along with Buchanan's "Death of the West." Having first read "Bias" it proved to be an excellent lead-in to Pat's book.

I'm impressed most by the fact that the reviews here are either 1-star or 5-stars, with almost no middle ground. This seems to justify Pat's declaration that the the ongoing war for our western culture has radically polarized American society into "us" and "them" factions leaving no room for accomodation of the other side. The culture war is destined to be one of extermination from which only one side will emerge victorious.

One question Pat did not address is why every race on this planet is allowed to maintain a mono-racial homeland except for (of course)the white Cauacasian race. Indeed, white liberals have led the effort to create and defend mono-racial homelands for blacks, Asians, Jews, and Muslims while at the same time diluting the gene pool in their own homelands with alien stock from every quarter of the earth.

Blending of cultures is not diversity, it is a recipe for revolution. A civilization cannot undergo a radical change in racial composition and still maintain its identity and values. Witness what happened to the Roman Empire which collapsed mainly because the original Romans became a monority in their own land.

Diversity among peoples of the earth is a homogenous nation of Scots, another homogenous nation of Zulus, another of Japanese, and so on down the list. Diversity to western liberals is their vision of the "Tan Everyman." Diversity to Europeans is tantamount to racial suicide mainly because of the fact that our numbers are proportionately few and our women are refusing to have babies as Pat so expertly supports with statistics from the U.N. population office. To put it more plainly, if you have a bottle of white milk, and a bottle of chocolate milk, you can mix the two and have chocolate milk. You can add white milk to the chocolate to make it whiter, but you still have chocolate milk.

Summary: Delusional thoughts of a an irrational religious zealot
Review: Mr. Buchanan bemoans the impending death of the white, Christian, European, western empire whose men will cease to "civilize" and "Christianize" mankind. He claims that the first commandment brought down by Moses from Mount Sinai is rejected by the new culture that replaces "God" by "Global economy" in a "Third World America".

The author seems to have forgotten that Mount Sinai is not located in the "western hemisphere" and that the old and the new testaments descended on non-white, African and Asian Jewish people, in Egypt. When Christianity ensued after Judaism it inherited the serious flaws that Jesus was too young (under 31 of age) who could not possibly be more knowledgeable than the rest of the world at that immature young age. In addition, the claim that Jesus was born without a biological father and that Mary remained virgin after his birth contradicts any scientific axiom. Thus, Christianity became more of a fiction than of reality. It spreads love but dejects logical reasoning, thus conflicts with the scientific progress of civilization.

The author's claims that the West monopolizes the mission of civilization of mankind omits the fact that old civilization flourished in China, India, Babylon, and Egypt long before the Europeans caught up with modern civilization.

A rational person would conceptualize that global economy is the closest concept to a common God for all mankind that can participate in borderless trade of goods and services than the traditional nationalism, separatism, and racial discrimination. The author seems to believe that the God of the bible only belongs to the church of white people of western descent who should struggle for the soul of America against the non-Christians, non-white, and non-Americans born folks.

Such demonization of people of other faith, culture, and skin color by a religious zealot is not the end of the author's bizarre and delusional feelings. In his prime time TV show, the author had recently expressed his extreme disgust and rejection for a young white woman who dared to participate in men's golf tournament. That demonstrates the deep-seated resentment of societal evolution on the part of the author.

Like the extreme fanatics of Islam who want to destroy all infidels, and the extreme fanatics of Judaism who want to displace all Palestinians and replace them with any Jews from all over the world, Mr. Buchanan wishes to establish a Christian empire made only from white European race.

Summary: Controversial, Well Written, and Disagreeable
Review: One of the most controversial men in America, accused of bigotry, racism and all sorts of labels, wrote a book on a topic that, well, might just make him be called even more things. Well written? Yes...Well cited? Yes...Interesting? Yes...

Whether you like Pat Buchanan, hate him, or are curious, this book is a good read. If one wants to understand why some intellectuals oppose liberalism and immigration, this is a good read. Buchanan is a religious man, but writes with a very secular tone. Tolerable and bearable to religious, secular, leftist and rightist alike.

Summary: Fantastic Tripe
Review: Pat Buchanan is not simply bemoaning the immigration problem, although that is worrisome. His real problem is the decline in the birth rates of all of the Westernized nations; the civilized nations of Europe, and our original forbears in this country, the founders of this nation.

Our birthrate, says Buchanan, has dropped to the point that we are no longer sustaining ourselves. We are declining at such a rapid rate that by mid-century, we will be a minority population in our own countries. In Europe the only nation that shows a sustainable population birth growth rate is the Islamic country of Albania. The rest of us maintain our population growth only through immigration.

Buchanan points to several reasons for the phenomenon: the rise of feminism and the resulting decline in the institution of marriage, the birthrate and the nuclear family, in favor of the "whatever feels good" motivation that followed the Second World War, the lack (or change) in sexual morality, the rise in humanism at the expense of Christianity, the pill, the Playboy philosophy, widespread abortion, birth control, and the tendency for women to work outside the home rather than bear and raise children, with the concomitant destruction due to all the above factors of that most important unit, the family, which radical feminists proclain it is their intention to destroy as an institution.

Virtually every page of this book is filled with quotable self-evident material that will keep you nodding in agreement. This is the first of Pat Buchanan's books that I have read. I Failed to realize how much in agreement with him that I am.

In my own life, which stretches over 75 years so far, I have personally witnessed (and abhorred) the societal changes that he talks about: the blurred moral distinctions which were once so universally clear and accepted, and are now equally universally knocked into a cocked hat by a younger generation that apparently is convinced that everything preceding generations lived by and valued is wrong and must be changed. They are so sure that we were wrong and they are right. They look askanse at marriage, and favor promiscuity for men and women alike, but not procreation; multiculturism, which is divisive, but not the melting pot, which is unifying. Where once they were nationalistic, and would fight to defend their country, now they escape to Canada to avoid any self-sacrifice, and to justify their "peacefulness," (and also to ensure that no harm comes to them) they refuse service to their country in time of war. "Make love, not war," is their creed. They would happily turn over control of their lives to the United Nations--an unelected, uncontrolled body that has often demonstrated its uselessness and dislike, if not hatred, for the United States.

I recommend a thoughtful reading of this book. It is not another doomsday prophecy. The predictions he makes are already in motion. The trend is here. India, China, Africa, all of the "third world," is in the process of overtaking us. The inventive, productive, civilizing Caucasians are a dying breed. The undeveloped nations are in the process of burying us, and there seems to be little prospect of stopping the trend. Our increases in population through imnmigration are at the expense of our culture. The decline of civilization as we know it, is at hand. Our place at the table is being usurped by less qualified cultures which we are enthusiastically encouraged to support, and our decline and eventual demise is because of our own hedonism. It is past time to "wake up." It is time to prepare for the funeral of the West. There is no sign that the trend will be slowed or stopped. The country that I love and grew up in is a thing of the past.

Summary: Some Rarely Heard Truths
Review: Pat Buchanan, as always, gives us something to think about. In this book, he did a fine job of identifying a serious problem, and explaining how it came about, and why we should all be concerned about it.

I enjoyed the fact that Pat was not afraid to challenge politically correct myths, but instead identify the fact that mass immigration, unchecked and unchallenged, is a serious problem that anyone interested in the sovereignty of the US should be concerned about. Pat laid out a very strong case. A very well-written book.

Summary: Wow! Recommended Book.
Review: Patrick Buchanan has compiled a literal sourcebook of contemporary historical insight that will no doubt be interpreted as "on-point" or realized as true.

As a political science genre text, the book at <300 pages is easily readable and interpreted without requiring advanced education. Although it can be read and understood in less than a weekend, it delivers a concise and powerful message to the reader.

Right, wrong, or indifferent, the future as predicted in this book is being realized. Accuracy is checked by many footnotes to references. What can I say? A very good book worth reading!

Summary: Pat's declining birthrate
Review: So the culprit in pat's worldview is the declining birthrate in the west, coupled with the exploding birthrate in the 3rd world. Interesting premise, from a man that has exactly zero offspring himself.
