Summary: Ignore Buchanan at Our Peril
Review: The Death of the West should be required reading for politicians in North America and Europe. In his latest jeremiad, Pat Buchanan paints a chilling but entirely realistic picture of the world at the end of the twenty-first century. If current demographic trends continue, he predicts that western Europe will be in slow but inexorable decline, Russia will have been driven out of Siberia and Central Asia, white European Christians will have become a minority in North America, and Western culture and civilization will be in retreat everywhere. As the West enters its twilight, it will be challenged, defeated, and submerged by an ascendant China, militant Islam, and an increasingly irredentist Mexico. By the year 2100, we in North America will be lucky to hang on to what we have.How did the West come to the abyss? Buchanan lays the blame where it belongs - politically-correct immigration policies, official multiculturalism, and the replacement of statecraft by humanitarian diplomacy. But he is perhaps most convincing in his assertion that he has seen the enemy, and it is us. In a penultimate chapter titled "The War Against the Past," Buchanan describes a litany of assaults on America's history and heritage by the cultural arsonists of the liberal Left - the airbrushing of Confederate heroes out of Civil War commemorations being only the most obvious example - and rightly asks why the eradication of the past has been allowed to proceed with barely a whimper of protest. It is a fair question. A civilization without a past cannot possibly have a future. It certainly will lack the moral fibre to meet the cultural, demographic, and military challenges that lie ahead.

Summary: Democrat? Republican? Either way we all lose.
Review: The message of this book isn't "extreme" any more than defending your family from being destroyed is extreme. With current trends of low birth rates fueled by feminist philosophies, civil rights, and the metaphorical castration of white males within most of our lifetimes we will no longer have a future.
The main problem is that we don't actively seek out our own best interest apart from immediate financial gain. We also seem to be into the habit of attacking one another. It's okay for us to make negative attacks against "white trash" or for the Irish to hate the English, or to disgregard the suffering of Caucasian nations, and yet it is NOT okay for us to show even justified criticism for other races on this planet, near or far. The best, it seems, that we can do is cry for "fairness" and equality when for non-white races this is merely a euphemism for "bring down the white man". It's like playing tug of war when you're not allowed to pull but merely try to stand up. If the other side is pulling and you're merely trying to stand your ground... well, we can see what would happen.
And so here in "The Death of the West" Buchanan is making a noble attempt at getting us to at the very least take an honest look at our situation and hopefully start looking for answers to our crisis.
This is not extreme any more than it would be extreme for any other people to be concerned for their own well being, their own homelands or their own children. But it seems that it is only Caucasian's who are considered Extreme when we object to having a loaded gun pointed at our very existence.
But hey, as long as we have McDonald's we're okay, right?

Summary: Chicken Little!
Review: There have always been people who decry current trends, which they see as bringing on disaster. This would include attitudes towards the Irish coming to America in the 19th century, eastern Europeans in the early 20th century, the end of effective medical care in the US when Medicare was developed 40 years ago, the end of movies in the 1950s, and so on. In spite of all the protestations, America is still the guiding light of the world, offering its people a better life and more opportunity than anywhere else on earth, and life only gets better in spite of the efforts of some to move it in another direction. Read Gregg Easterbrooks THE PROGRESS PARADOX for a more realistic look at America and the direction in which we are going.

Summary: A Clarion Call to Close the Floodgates
Review: ~The Death of the West: How Dying Populations and Immigrant Invasions Imperil Our Country and Civilization~ is a clarion call to save the West, because IT'S DYING!!! The West is dying avows Patrick Buchanan and with boldness and clarity, he has taken to the task of writing a bleak and startling prognosis for Western Civilization. European populations in the First World are aging and colossal immigrant invasions imperil their survival in Europe, North America, and Australia. The demographic change will rapidly transform the culture, politics and nature of entire nations... and the trend may be irreversible if no action is taken soon. The birth control pill has arguably become the suicide pill of the West. Birth rates having been making huge declines amongst First World nations and the traditional family as an institution is disappearing. Since the 1960s, women have been forced into the labor market to pay the family's share of taxes... the nefarious influence of feminism coupled with material avarice has arguably trampled motherhood and led to a serious decline in legitimate birth rates amongst Westerners. Many Westerners are irreligious, narcissistic and mammon-driven yuppies, thus children are seen as less of an asset and more of an undesired liability and burden. Some couples opt never to have children. The culture war is at the heart of the matter!
Consider the following:
* Not a single European nation except Muslim Albania has a birthrate that will enable it to survive in its present form past 2050.
* By 2050, less than one-tenth of the world's population will be European, and an aging population on top of that, with a median age of fifty.
* There are 30 million foreign born people in the United States, and of that one-third are illegal aliens.
* America is losing the culture war. Relativism, cultural Marxism, and paganism have attacked the traditional Christian faith of millions.
Buchanan's prognosis is obviously a clarion call to avert the disaster soon to befall the West. The title is ominous enough, but Buchanan is not overtaken with a spirit of resignation. Buchanan is not trying to be a pessimist as he does offers solutions to avert this crisis. This book is cogent and very well reasoned. The nations of the West, including the United States must take action to avert its declining population, by restricting immigration and reemphasizing the need for strong, healthy families. We may have won the Cold War, notes Pat, but we are failing at the Cultural War. Gramsci's "long march through the institutions" has wrought unassailable damage to Western culture, as cultural Marxism, relativism, and nihilism as become the culture of millions. With a trenchant pen, Buchanan launches a broadside against the cadre of Marxist intellectuals and Sixties radicals who have attacked our faith, our history and heritage in academia while brainwashing our children into an enmity against the West. The embrace of permissive sex and the drug culture has taken root-this must be broken. Pat offers some solutions for staving off the crisis, but makes it clear something must be done.
Those that take issue with Buchanan are often themselves antipathetic to the West. Many Westerners have refused to take an anti-immigrant stance and are ready to acquiesce in the suicide of the West: these folks have a self-imposed guilt complex owing to revisionist propaganda assailing the West as a bastion of imperialism, elitism and oppression. At the behest of the Frankfurt School and other Neo-Marxist pseudo-intellectuals, this assault on our culture has browbeaten millions into submission, apathy and indeed antipathy against their own culture. Buchanan is bold and gives moral clarity on a prickly issue, but he is emboldened enough to state the obvious: Western Civilization will collapse or be radically transformed into a wholly different civilization if its disappearing progenitors - white Europeans - become a minority in their own homelands. It takes courage these days to state the obvious: proliferation and numerical preponderance of white Europeans in their cradle and colonial abodes might be vitally requisite to the survival of Western Civilization.
