Rating: Summary: Where's the Subpoena? Review: If the author really has "proof" that MJ was innocent of the 1993 charges, why hasn't she been subpoeanaed to testify on his behalf in the current case? The answer is simple: Ms. Hughes knows next to nothing about what happened in 1993, and has no evidence of guilt or innocence. She is also prohibited by law from betraying the confidences of her boss's clients - one of the most basic premises of attorney-client relations that any "top legal secretary" knows and abides by. So much for her ethics. Talk about cashing in...
The Chandler family have grounds to sue Ms. Hughes, and they should.
This book is filled with filler (e.g., long unecesssary quotes from the California Penal Code) and errors of law.
Fans of MJ and those interested in his life who have read this book, should also read "All That Glitters" by the victim's uncle Raymond Chandler. That book contains the real "inside" story and is written by someone who did more research than typing a handful of letters.
Rating: Summary: Highly recommended! Great book! Review: "Redemption" is first of all a very well written book -- it shows the evil and greed of people. It also shows a great deal of passion for the human being that is Michael Jackson. Not only that he's innocent but he's the world greatest entertainer, as Rolling Stone magazine pointed out recently.
I highly recommend the reading of this book, no matter what you might think of the king of pop. If there's one thing that everyone could agree with would be that no matter how famous Michael Jackson is, he never was greedy. He gave away millions and millions of dollars to help out heal the world. Don't treat him like a criminal, you good perfect people.
Rating: Summary: The Real TRUTH Review: Don't miss this out! It will prove that Michael Jackson(aka King Of Pop) is innocent and that he is a victim of money haunters.
Rating: Summary: A Complete Waste of Dead Trees Review: Geraldine Hughes claims to have vital information about Wacko Jacko's innocence. She claims that she has evidence that would exonerate him and prove that Chandler was blackmailing Wacko. Did she take this information to the police? No. She held back this 'vital information' and published a book.
This book is an exercise in fanwanking. Before you buy it, ask yourself why someone employed by the victim's attorney would provide information to the person accused of molesting a child. Do some research and consider Hughes's motives before wasting your money on this book.
Rating: Summary: The Real TRUTH Review: Geraldine Hughes, a legal secretary who worked for the lawyer who brought the original child molestation charges against Michael Jackson in l993, writes a convincing chronology of the events that led to Michael settling the case out of court. While settling made Michael appear guilty to much of the public, Hughes shows us, using the court records, just how the system was working against Michael. For instance, a civil suit was filed while the criminal proceedings were still open. In a civil case, the rules for evidence are more relaxed. Generally speaking, judges will not permit a civil suit to proceed before the criminal case so that the defendant will not incriminate him/herself. This was not the case for Jackson. The civil case was allowed to go on.Ms. Hughes also treats us to the calendar diary that she kept while she was working for Barry Rothman, who was hired by Dr. Chandler, the victim's father. Included are telephone calls that implicate Dr. Chandler in an alleged extortion attempt. Chandler allegedly wanted money for not going forward with the case. Hughes also lists the court filings and legal procedures that occurred. Hughes presents a convincing case even if reading all the legal proceedings does get a bit tiresome. The book should be very welcome to Michael Jackson fans and others who wanted to know what really happened. She also lists the many kindnesses and charities that Michael Jackson sponsors around the world for children as further proof that such a kind man could not be a secret monster. Rating: Summary: Blind Faith is Dangerous. Review: Hughes book is an excellent example of how blind faith works. For that reason I urge you to buy her book. Hughes twists the facts. For example, she quotes from secret tape recordings but doesn't tell her readers that she has taken sentences from several different pages of the transcript and strung them together in a single quote, thus altering their meaning. Hughes also omits key facts that she can't deal with. One example is that MJ took the Fifth Amendement in a 1994 lawsuit when asked under oath about his intimate relationships with little boys. Instead of believing the five star reviews of Hughes' book written by MJ fans, or believing the one star reveiws written by me and others, compare Hughes book with mine (also on Amazon), "All That Glitters: The Crime and the Cover-up," and judge for yourself. What could be fairer than that?
Rating: Summary: for those sincerely interested in hearing both sides Review: I have become fascinated with the scandals surrounding Michael Jackson, none more than the child molestation allegations against him in 1993. To hear a perspective from inside the accusers camp gives you both sides to this case, and I must say, Mr. Jackson's side is quite convincing. Michael Jackson had nothing to do with this book, nor does he know the woman that wrote it. But that woman surely knows him, and the extent to which he has been wronged. I urge anyone who really wants to get to the bottom of this case to read this book. Also, do some amateur researching and investigating of the current allegations against Michael Jackson, and you will find many of the same key players involved and similarities between the two cases. No one knows what happened between Michael Jackson and these boys, but of the hundreds of thousands of children he's come across over decades, as time has passed and they've grown into adults, still only two will say anything wrong ever took place. And upon researching these two cases, you'll find many clues pointing to these allegations being completely bogus. Though I'm not spiritual, the author is and there are many spiritual refernces. If you can disreguard this for a moment, and look at the facts, you'll find this woman to seem very credible. I believe one of the greatest injustices could be made on the part of the public in assuming this man is guilty without giving enough fair judgement considering the facts. If Michael Jackson is innocent, the world owes him a BIG apology. Check it out and see for yourself:)
Rating: Summary: Information For Everyone Review: I have read Geraldine Hughe's book Redemption, and found it to be very worthwhile reading. I am glad Geraldine has stepped forward to reveal the innocence of Michael Jackson in the 1993 accusations, and expose the true offenders. Her book will help many people understand an important fact that is not well known. The settlement of the civil suit was far from substantiation of guilt; the prosecution would surely have continued to trial with even the most superficial evidence against the accused, but there was none. I read the Mary Fisher article about how Michael Jackson was framed, and I found that Geraldine Hughes book goes beyond the information covered in that enlightening article in GQ Magzine. Geraldine defines how Michael Jackson was forced to be a defendant in a civil suit and a criminal suit for the same case at the same time. She tells how Mr. Jackson was a victim of reverse justice in the state of CA, during 1993. She explains how Michael's complaint of being a victim of extortion was poorly investigated and dismissed because the investigation was conducted by members of the same team who was persecuting (not just prosecuting, but persecuting) Michael Jackson. There is much to learn from this book, and my suggestion is for everyone to read it for his/herself. If you are not interested to purchase it, go to your library and read it. I would much rather listen to someone who has knowledge than the many who seem anxious to speak against Mr. Jackson, but who lack the will to learn of him. As a result of the baseless, slanderous comments, the true character, the golden heart of this long-standing, unrivaled humanitarian (Michael Jackson) is left unmentioned and unexplored.
Rating: Summary: Light on FACTS & Heavy on RELIGION Review: I read "Redemption" after I completed the book "All That Glitters" by Raymond Chandler. And, the only conclusion that I can make after reading "Redemption" is that it is the complete antithesis of "All That Glitters."
Geraldine Hughes (the author of this book) believes unequivocally that Michael Jackson is an innocent victim of the 1993 molestation allegations. She believes that the "dark forces of Satan" set him up to take the fall. But Hughes does little (if any) to shed light on any facts.
Geraldine Hughes was the legal secretary for the lawyer that represented the father of the child that alleged Michael Jackson molested him. She was never privy to any inside details nor did she interview the father or the child regarding this book. So I do not understand what she is basing her position on? It seems that her book is based more on theory than anything else.
Geraldine Hughes knows nothing or very little about this case. This is because a lot of her facts are distorted, inaccurate and just plain sloppy. It is obvious that she didn't do any type of investigative work for this book because she got some very basic items and details and facts wrong. I also suspect that she had difficulty finding a publisher (has anyone ever heard of "Branch & Vine Publishers"?) Because it is apparent that this book was just thrown together to capitalize on the recent new allegations brought against Jackson (by the way, the new allegations are NOT mentioned). The price of this book is a whopping $25.00, yet it is only 184 pages long!
Geraldine Hughes is a deeply religious person. There are many religious references in this book about the Bible, about Satan, and about God, which I think is fine in and of it. But didn't anyone bother to tell her that a pulpit would be a better place to preach from than a book?
I don't know if Michael Jackson is innocent or not. I only know 2 facts to be true:
1) This entire saga is very fascinating because Michael Jackson's personal and professional life is both enthralling and entertaining.
2) It seems that just about anyone can cash in on Jackson's fame and write a book. Geraldine Hughes wants readers to think she was on the "inside" team because that sells books, but she has little or not facts to back up her claims!
I have read at least 20 books about Michael Jackson but I do not recommend this book because it is so biased and one-sided. It is commendable that Geraldine Hughes does not personally attack Michael Jackson (like much of the media does) but I feel it is also irresponsible for her to leave out glaring facts that should be included. For example, Ms. Hughes is under the delusional impression that Michael Jackson was not affected by these allegations. As far as she is concerned, his celebrity status and record sales have not suffered as a result of the allegations! And as we all know that is not the case at all.
Hughes is obviously a HUGE Michael Jackson fan. She describes Jackson to be more like a 21st century God-like figure than a pop singer. In her eyes, he is an angel of mercy who can do no wrong. This book is very one-sided and overly opinionated. Save your time and your money and wait for a better book to be published. A more aptly named titled for this book could be, "I Like Money" because that title sums up everything in a nutshell!
Rating: Summary: Nothing new Review: It shouldn't take a new book to get anyone to realize that Mr. Jackson is and was innocent of the charges against him. Doing even some minor research would make that fact obvious. The only people that think he's even remotely guilty 1) Don't know anything about him 2) Don't know anything about the case 3) Don't know anything about the elder Chandler's extortion history 4) Are too lazy or inept to look into anything deeper than what Entertainment Tonight and Hard Copy tells them to. It's simply one of those four.
Great book, but I suspect the people that were force fed their opinions by tabloid tv shows aren't gonna be real interested, and probably not even intellectually capable of,reading a book such as this one.
