Summary: Deceptively simple - incomparible to other books
Review: This is a wonderful book. We have the best photos of our baby thanks to this book. We feel so good about our photos that we haven't had any professional photos -- I have not seen a professional photo as beautiful as the ones we take using the advice from this book.

We've given the book as a gift to every friend who's had a baby and they love it as well.

Review: This is an excellent book with excellent ideas written to be understood by anyone. Great book for beginner photographers and even advanced amateurs. I not only got great ideas from the book but it also helped me understand lighting and gave me a better understanding for my camera. Thank you Nick Kelsh!

Summary: Waste of money
Review: This may be a usefull book if you have absolutely zero experience in photography and are happy with very few, very simple tips.

The author has obviously put more effort in the layout of the book then in the contents of it. The text, printed in a size large enough for your baby to read, could be summarized into 2 or 3 pages.

Save yourself the money and browse the internet for some simple hints and tips on baby photography instead....

Summary: Excellent Photography Tips
Review: What a breeze to read and follow! You can read and practice the techniques in this book in a short time. Great for mothers and fathers who don't have alot a time. I have made some great photos of my son using this book. Friends and family think that a pro took the photos but it was just me.

Summary: Deceptively simple - incomparible to other books
Review: When I first read this book, it was a borrowed copy from a friend. I read it in under an hour, and the following week I tried out a couple of the techniques recommended. My results were FANTASTIC! I now have incredible photos of my son (he was 9 months at the time) that capture his personality.

I didn't purchase this book right away because it seemed too simple for the money - it was so easy to use the techniques and it didn't take long to read the book. So, I went to the library and checked out some other books on photography - the National Geographic Society's Field Guide, another book on photographing children, etc.. All the other books were definitely more "meaty" in terms of what you can do to take better pictures. However, I got very lost in the talk of F-stops and aperture. I have a couple of point-and-shoot cameras and my subject matter, now a year old, is always on the move. I don't have the time, energy, or financial ability to get involved with the SLR cameras - that's a whole separate profession! So.. after months of looking, reading, and testing, I come back to this book -- deceptively simple, but PRICELESS in value. I am so thankful I got a copy before Amazon marked it unavailable.

If you were on the fence about this book, I would urge you to make the investment. There are still copies in bookstores (albiet at retail price) and it's probably available online somewhere. You can't lose!

Summary: A must have for new photographers
Review: Where I'm coming from-- I have an associates degree in photography, and I worked as a photographer through my college years. It's been about 10 years since I took pictures for a living, but I still shoot lots of film and read a couple photo books a year to keep current.

If you are an experienced photographer: This book is NOT a technical guide, it's more of a style guide. I found this book useful for reminding me about the basic principles that make great people pictures--get close, use natural light, shoot lots of film, etc. I'm adding the book to my collection, but you may want to rent it from your library.

If you are a new photographer: I think you'll find this book very helpful. It doesn't dwell on techno mumbo-jumbo, and it explains how to get great pictures without special, expensive equipment. The lessons are also useful for inspiring you to "just do it." Simply put, it is the BEST book I've ever read for baby photography, and I think you'll love it as much as I did!
