Summary: Lack of Substance - Companion Web Site is A Joke!!!
Review: I'm very disappointed by this book. There's no substance! All the book provides is some general information about the common promotion tools on the Web. It then lists pages of links that require hours of surfing on the Internet. The companion Web site is such a bad joke that I can't believe the publisher made such a big deal out of it. There are no more than 20 links on this companion Web site and NOTHING ELSE!!! I'm returing this book for a refund.

Summary: Excellent Resource for Site Planning
Review: I've read this book several times and have recommended it to several clients. A great handbook to keep on hand at all time......

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A bargain
Review: I've waded through so many bad computer books that when I open one now I expect it to be full of a lot of fluff and repetitive advice, like Step1: Open-->New on every tutorial.

This one wasn't. It cuts to the point and is definitely reader-friendly in a way more computer books should be. Casual, but not childish (i.e. SAMS LiveMotion 24 hrs, and GoLive 5 for Dummies).

Another bonus is that they did NOT add a useless CD-ROM to jack up the price another $25.

You can't go a page in this book without finding something you can use on your site immediately. It goes beyond the obvious and shows the author really did her homework. This book is a MUST-have if you're serious about web work and getting your site out there.

Summary: Dummy 101
Review: If you have been using the Internet for more than six months, skip this book and get something else. Most of the information is too basic to be of any practical use and too much behind Internet development (maybe it's because the book was written by someone outside the U.S.).

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Must have for businesses with websites
Review: If you're a small or medium sized business (under 250 employees), paid to have a website built, pay an annual fee to have an ISP host your site and email accounts, but don't really have a formal internet marketing strategy, you need this book. It might not be for advanced website builders, but it is for most of us others...

Summary: Weak: only a couple of strong sections...
Review: In looking for good literature about Internet Marketing, I ran across this title. I literally browsed through pages at a time, looking for useful information. It wasn't until I hit the chapters dealing with mailing lists, use of newsgroups and media to promote web sites that I found some useful information. The sections on keywords and search engine optimization were, to say the least, VERY superficial. There are better titles out there dealing with the topic.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Good, but also a Little Disappointing!
Review: In my humble opinion, this book is strong in resource links and appears to cover a number of useful topics. But I feel that it is NOT written in sufficient depth. The weaknesses of this book include: (1) Many of the important topics are covered only in one or two paragraphs while less important topics, such as signature file, are given entire chapters, (2) Too many "definitions" of terms and not enough "how to", (3) Not up-to-date in Internet development, and (4) The 50+ pages of Appendix could have been left out because they are very basic information that can be obtained by doing a search in Yahoo!

I'm doubtful a book like this can do you any good. One only has to read "Business the Amazon.com Way" to realize that Amazon.com has many more successful ways of marketing and promotion itself. I think you would be more successful by reading everything about Amazon.com and try to model (without imitating) its business formula.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Good Coverage, Insufficient Depth
Review: Many useful topics are covered in this book. Unfortunately, most of them are too generic and basic. Some suggestions, such as using cartoons to get visitors to come back to your site, are just plain childish. In addition, most of the URLs listed in the book no longer exist. Those that do are typically article sites put together by amateurs. I'm also disappointed by the author's site, which is nothing more than an online brochure. Not a place where I can get more information. The companion site is worse. It only lists 20% of the links in the book, and NOTHING else. One of the selling point about this book is its companion site. Boy, am I disappointed!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Really good
Review: Most usefull for the serious readers like me.I will be happy if I get some more information.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: These ratings point to one thing...
Review: Notice the pattern of these ratings? The 4 and 5 stars are the people who know (almost) nothing about web marketing. The rest of us are seasoned web marketers / developers / pros etc. I won't call this book bad - it's simply not for us. However, if you can't be bothered looking at a couple of free sites that provide good info for beginners, this book might be for you.
