Summary: Off-the-Cuff Refreshment But Not Quite a Knockout
Review: Krevolin's casual, no-nonsense, and amusing approach is a refreshing change in a flooded market. What's better still is that he seems to practice what he preaches by welcoming e-mail correspondence -- that's definitely a high point. But despite all the inspirational odes and Zen-like examples -- the book comes short on specifics and analysis (though his "Scene-O-Gram" advice is great). Mind you I don't want to see "scientific" ho-hum tutelage any more than the next guy but Krevolin could've devoted more to the nitty-gritty of writing than on just "motivating." Even what I found to be most helpful -- his advice on dialogue -- could've done with more examples. Still, I don't want to cut this book short -- it's definitely worth a look and there are insights to gain (especially about what you can realistically expect). Check it out! Just know you'll need another, less "Be all you can be" type book as well.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Inciteful, humorous, witty, wise, unusual - a must read.
Review: Krevolin, following Rilke's Letters to a Young Poet, has written "letters to an aspiring screenwriter" that goes far beyond the usual "how to" technical information of screenwriting books. This book, in fact, reads like a novel! It is filled with common sense and wisdom, and it addresses questions usually ignored in screenwriting books, such as, why do we write when writers are treated so poorly by the industry?

This book also is filled with humor and wit. The last time I laughed reading a screenwriting book I was laughing at the author - but here Krevolin has me in the palm of his hands, creating real characters who lead me on the journey into the screenwriting life.

I'll be using this book in my screenwriting classes at Portland State University and quoting from it in my electronic tutorial, Screenwright: the craft of screenwriting. Richard Krevolin has redefined ! the genre of screenwriting texts with this fine accomplishment.

Summary: A funny, inspiring, helpful text/epistolary novel.
Review: Not just an ordinary screenwriting textbook, this book is a series of letters that teach about screenwriting, and also offer lessons about living the write life.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Definitely worth it and useful.
Review: There are a lot of straightforward, practical, Step A, Step B, Step C books on how to write a screenplay. This book is not exactly that, although it definitely gives a lot of great insight. The best thing about this book is that it takes you through all the emotions you feel as a new screenwriter, all at the exact stages when you'd feel them. So many times I've wished I could call up Lawrence Kasdan or some other great mentor/screenwriter and see what he'd have to say, but Richard Krevolin does this for us! It's a really helpful book and he seems like a great guy.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Most entertaining screenwriting book
Review: This is the kind of screenwriting book that you read more than once, not just through a skim, but like your favorite novel! The advice in this book is grand gold, Richard Krevolin knows what he's talking about, and there is no flaw.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: fun to read, yet ultimately lacks weight
Review: Though the idea of the book is "cute", and I'm sure there are worthwhile lessons to be learned, the author himself has no personal screenwriting credits in which to base any of his teachings. We readers are deprived of first hand knowledge of the experience of having a script transformed into a film (even one we've never heard of).

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: "Tuesdays with Morrie" except more useful
Review: What a great book. It should be read by hopeful screenwriters as well as anyone else who recognizes the need for good stories.

Yay for Mr. Krevolin who seems to know exactly how to convey useful information in a story format.

Summary: For Anyone Who Can Read...
Review: Who knew? I had to order a copy of this book after impulsively picking it up at the library. It was the word "soul" that grabbed my attention. I had to see if this was real or just a catchy title, soul starved writer that I am. Boy am I brilliant to have found this! I'm amazing! When I finished the last word, bawling like a baby, I felt like I had just stepped out of a theater in that total transformation ecstacy. But best of all, I was a mere few feet from my computer in my own little abode. All my stuff is transformed too! Wow. If you might like to be inspired to within an inch of your life, choose this book and then hide under the covers while you read it. You might get so engrossed you forget and pick your nose or something. (You don't even have to be a writer to love this book.)
