Summary: Absolutely the best thing you can do for your score!
Review: Taking the tests in 10 Real SAT's is by far the best thing you can do to raise your score. Really. Becoming familiar with the test, seeing the types of questions and just getting in the SAT taking mindset will help you more than any vocabulary flashcards, math worksheets, tutors, or SAT programs ever will (and the book is a lot less expensive!).

Though I did not score poorly on my PSAT's, I did want to score significantly better. After doing those flash cards and math sheets and visiting a few tutors, my score had gone up, but not as much as I had wanted it to. So, for the two months before the big test day, I took one full test every Saturday (it sounds like I lot, I know, but it's not that bad!). With each test, my score went up 10-30 points, and on test day, I did even better than I had been doing on the practice tests, raising my score to the level I had wanted.

My advice: buy this book, and take at least three or four tests. It WILL raise your score! (Unless you're consistently getting 1600's, of course...)

Summary: How to get additional 200 scores?
Review: Just buy this book.

English is not my native language and I had many problems with verbal section on SAT. I had a score of 470 on it three months, ago. Today I saw my 1 November's test results: I have 670 on Verbal section!! While working on these 10 Real Tests, my verbal skill has improved dramatically!

I also bought "How to prepare for the SAT", but I think that 10 Real SAT's is more than enough for everyone.

Summary: Very helpful, but it has some problems...
Review: I found this book to be extremely helpful in every way; it helped me pull my score up nearly 100 points between an analysis test that I took and the actual SAT.

My one word of caution, though. In retrospect, I think that the reviewer who said that the practice tests were scaled more generously than the SAT was probably right; I did much better on the practice test that I did in the book than I did on the other practice tests that I took and than I did on the actual SAT. I'm not sure about that though; the first time that I took the SAT may not have been an accurate of an indicator, and I didn't feel that I did nearly as well on the SAT as I could have.

The other thing that I noticed was that the "full-length" tests all had one section left off of them. I'm guessing that these were the equating sections (sections that don't count towards your score, but are used to experiment with questions that the college board is considering using in the future), and if so it doesn't matter much, but I just thought that that should be mentioned.

My conclusion: be sure and get this book to help you pull your scores up, but I'm not sure that I'd count on pulling them up much more than 100 - 150 points or so with your book.

Summary: Besides Cheating, this is the BEST way to improve your score
Review: The best way to improve you're score on the SAT is to read this book. It is more than 10 real sats however. It also has chapters on a variety of subjects:

Chapter 1: Introducing the SAT-------------------------Chapter 2: Test-Taking Strategies

Chapter 3: Psyching Yourself Up-----------------------Chapter 4: About Verbal Questions

Chapter 5: Sentence Completion Questions-------------Chapter 6: Analogy Questions

Chapter 7: Critical Reading Questions-------------------Chapter 8: Verbal Practice

Chapter 9: About Mathematics Questions---------------Chapter 10: Calculators

Chapter 11: Mathematics Review-----------------------Chapter 12: Five-Choice Multiple-Choice Questions

Chapter 13: Quantitative Comparison Questions---------Chapter 14: Student-Produced Response Questions

Chapter 15: Mathematics Practice-----------------------Chapter 16: About the PSAT/NMSQT

Chapter 17: 10 Complete, Real SATs with answer keys

I recommend going over this book and learning how to do do each problem so nothing will be a shock come test day. Even if you get a question wrong don't be frustrated. Just learn how to get the correct answer on that type of question and you will be set for test day.(this strategy is primarily for the math section but works on verbal as well)
*****UPDATE******
I got an 1100 on my first SAT without this book(550V, 550M). After reading this book, using my math strategy, I achieved a 1390 (620V, 770M). This book proved its value.

Summary: The College Board's Answer to Test Prep
Review: The College Board published this book because there were numerous complaints that people who could afford high priced classes and tutors had an advantage taking the SAT. 10 Real SAT's was the College Board's answer. The big test prep companies and even the College Board admit that the best way to do well on the SAT is to know the format of the test and practice on real SAT's. Practice on the tests in this book *will* improve your score - it sure improved mine.

The review material, however, is not as useful as the tests. The College Board assures us that there are no tricks to taking the SAT. Hopefully in future editions, they will add more recent tests and eliminate some strategic advise in the first part.

Nevertheless, everyone taking the SAT, no matter what their goal score is, should buy this book.

Summary: It works!
Review: best SAT book I got. Turns out there are no secrets to doing well, only practice. I took about 7 of the SATs in this book, and I think that was largely responsible for raising my score 200 points.

I also recommend using the free question of the day on the college board website.

Summary: 10 Real SAT's
Review: Generally speaking, this book was a tremendous help to me in my preparation for the SAT's. In my own personal experience, I've found that repeated practice tests are much more beneficial than the act of trying to memorize 5000 words or 50 math formulas. With a practice test every few weeks, you become more familiar (and comfortable) with the SAT and learn what is most frequently tested. There is no better book than this one for that very task because it uses real SAT's as opposed to tests with the same format, but not the same difficulty, as a real SAT. Keep in mind, this book details only VERY basic concepts that are tested (95% of it is just tests) and if you feel you need to begin by learning more about these concepts, you may need to invest in some other books as well - but in my opinion, this book was my saving grace. To put this in terms of scores, when I took my first PSAT, my score was equivalent to a 1230 on an SAT - my second PSAT, after some practice tests - was equivalent to 1370 - and my first (and last) SAT was a 1460 (710 math and 750 verbal). More than anything else, I believe that the taking of countless practice tests helped me to surpass the goal I had set for myself of 1450 and I recommend this book to absolutely anyone who wants to raise their score.

Summary: buy this and no other.
Review: the first time i took the sat, with no preparation, was in january and i got a 1290 (620M/670V). so i ordered this book after reading the reviews and told myself that if i scored my goal of 1400 I would write a review highly recommending this book. i didn't even do all ten of the practice sat's in the book. i did only 4. (the tests from before 1997-8 are a little too easy. i hear it gets harder every year...)i took the sat again in march and achieved my goal!! that's a 110 point increase from not even doing the whole book. i totally skipped reading all the tips the first half of the book gives- instead i started with the practice tests. I'm happy with my new score (670M/730V).

Summary: Must resource!
Review: This book contains 10 past actual SAT administrations. It is unequivocally a must source for those studying for the SAT; very useful for timed, full-length mock tests to conduct on your own.

Summary: Hands Down the Best Prepration for the SAT!!
Review: I had tried PR, Kaplan, Barrons and other commercial prep books on the SAT, but the 10 REAL SAT's were not only close to the real thing, but more importantly they showed where my flaws and weaknesses were (geometry) and to think like the test writers themselves. I went from a 1100 to a 1200+, which to me is as good as an improvement! This is a must buy! Some may be shopping for which study guide to use, and I highly recommend this one. As for those people who prefer to use software over books, DONT even think about buying any of the CD's from TEACHING SOLUTIONS. Many of my friends had bought thier product, and all of them could not get a refund because this was a fradulent company. Stay away from it! Its a total scam! Its a quick cut and paste job, slapped onto a pdf. Very easy to make, very easy to sell. Don't fall for it!
