Rating: Summary: : ) Review: Well, I am 18 years old, and my mother told me she read this book 10 years ago and after reading it she had this feeling that made us move to California. I got the book in the mail, and I read it all within 24 hours, and was pretty astonished afterwards. I read it with a critical eye, and I was still convinced it was true. So after reading many opinions from other reviews I have decided to discuss them: "First of all, hindu's believe that to achieve the form of a human, a soul must even go through thousands of lives in the form of animals. Catherine has no recollection of being reincarnated in any form other than that of a human." I also believe that we must go through many lives as animals, however those lives were not significant in this case because Catherine's phobia's were not from her lives as an animal. Although I think seeing your life as an animal would be pretty cool. "Now, these stories assume something that we know for a fact not to be true: they assume that the memories are in the soul and not in the body (how else would the reincarnation of the soul cause the new person know about the old one?).How do we know this is wrong? Simple! We know that we can loose our memory or parts of it through an injury or malfunction of our brain. This is a common phenomenon we encounter in car accidents. This is also the basis for some diseases like Alzheimer. Now, in all these cases, it is only our brain that is damaged. We don't loose our soul. If the memories were part of the soul, we would not have lost them! Hence, the memories are not in the soul and all the stories of recollection of events in past lives cannot be true." We human's know how to use so little of our brain, I've heard different statistic: 3%, 5% 10% anyway you look at it, very little. And with things like Alzheimers your memories don't disapear, they become blocked, therefor you can use even less of your brain...I believe in meditation we are able to clear ourselves of this material world and experience new parts of the brain, and in this type of hypnosis she is able to use a different part of her brain(which may not necessarily hold the memories, but this part of her brain may be able to access the information through the spirit-soul) "Then the author/psychiatrist takes the woman back in time and asks what year it is, and her response is "1875 BC." I believe this one is quite easy, she is giving him a time period, she is not entirely experiencing being this other person (when you are hypnotise you are still concious of everything around you, you just do not know you are hypnotised) and so therefore her as Catherine can date it back as 1875 BC This book is not to give you facts, not to provide you with scientific evidence, it is telling you to look past all of that as he did. This may not be the best book to give you tons of information on reincarnation, or about life's secrets (read the Veda's for those) but it is a great introduction, and a great piece of work for those already seeking answers. True or not true, I still believe in reincarnation. We spend so much time trying to prove everything with our minds, and explain things in words...but not everything is explainable in this body...sometime's ya just gotta go with ya' gut!
Rating: Summary: Interesting, but... Review: I had heard about this book from a friend of a friend and it had sounded like something I should definetly read. And when I found dirt cheap at a book sale, I was really excited. By the time I finished the book, it was still fascinated, but I couldn't help but be skeptical. I think one of the things that are most troubling for readers is one time when Catherine is remembering a past life in Egypt, and she says the year is something like 1900 B.C. Since the concept of B.C./A.D. obviously wasn't around then, the person who she was in that life couldn't have possibly known it was 1,900 years before the birth of Christ. In Dr. Weiss's web site, he explains that it's not only the person in the past life that is speaking, it can also be the person who is observing, i.e. Catherine. But later on in the book, he states repeatedly how under hypnosis Catherine recalls specific information about subjects Catherine couldn't possibly know about since she isn't very educated. So if it isn't who she was in the past life that knows this and it's not Catherine who knows this, who could have known that year? Her true spirit/soul? Why would it keep information about years? Another explanation he gave was that during regression, the year often flashes in people's minds. And that if she saw 1900 while in the life in which she saw the pyramids being built, she could infer it was A.D. But that doesn't make any sense! She wouldnt have remembered 1900! She would have remembered whatever number/letter/symbol they used to track years in ancient egypt. The same sort of thing happened several times in the book. I still believe this kind of reincarnation can be true and maybe it's just something I can't understand, but for me this book wasn't very solid evidence for it.
Rating: Summary: You cannot deny the possibility of past lives... Review: I was skeptical of this book at first. I was raised to believe that the afterlife consisted only of heaven and hell. After reading this book, I wonder if past lives do indeed exist. This book made me think that it is possible for reincarnation and heaven to exist together...you live and learn through many different lives in order to "pay your debts" and then move onto to "heaven." I don't know any of the real answers but this book made me contemplate life (and lives) beyond death. It's an easy read that allows you to sit many confidential doctor-client sessions. I recommend it!
Rating: Summary: PHENOMENAL Review: This is the first book i read without taking a break. It grips u so tight, and then puts you in a complete shock for the next few days. On one hand it is a completely shocking revelation, on the other hand, u will feel good to continue life, without any fear of death. It has changed my life in a very drastic manner, at the way i look at life and also the way i conduct my own life these days. But after reading this book i believe in my telepathy, and i am not freightened to accept that fact. I also understand what deja vu is all about. Its amazing. If u believe in what Dr weiss has written, then this book will change ur life completely, only to be a better person in life. BUY IT
Rating: Summary: It's OK Review: Don't go to his web site (brianweiss.com). You won' t want to finish what for me was a very nice book. It looks like the site of a cheesy astrologer . Diminished much credibility for me.
Rating: Summary: I beg you to save your money. This deserves zero stars. Review: Ridiculous. Unsubstantiated. Her comment on p. 27 about what year it is = 1863 B.C., was the beginning of the end for me. Absolute tripe. Incidentally, I believe that we have eternal souls. This book was terrible. I question the sanity of the author.
Rating: Summary: In response to some critics... Review: There were a few people who wrote very skeptical reviews on that book without ever knowing all the facts surrounding the experiments conducted by Dr. Weiss. It is a well known fact that the best us, human beings, can do is use 5% of our brain capacity, so, it follows, that there is a lot of unexplained phenomena out there simply because our limited consiousness is not able to grasp the whole picture. What is a bit puzzling to observe in the behaviour of our "scientific community", is the fact that they claim to be open-minded and, at the same time, maintain a virtual monopoly on all kinds of knowledge being taught in schools throughout the country and arrogantly dismiss anything that doesn't fit into their, so-called, "scientific mentality". For example, they present the evolutionary theory to students without ever acknowledging the fact that there exist quite a few cases that directly contradict it. In conclusion I'd like to say that, even though, some of what is written in the book doesn't make sense, keep an open mind - it might come in handy in the future.
Rating: Summary: This is a new truth in our universe. Review: This book is a gateway into the afterlife. This is what all human kind is "dying" to know. This the "big question" answered. Its such a peaceful resolution to all of life's questions. I suppose the truth of the book has to be questioned as does everything. If there is one thing the book has taught me IS to question myself and what I believe. To strive for truth and a vision of clarity. You will see your life so much more simply and living life will seem more clear and streamlined. We build so many mental and emotional walls to comfort ourselves while we are bombarded daily with the external stimuli that is our physical world. It's really no wonder our reality becomes so warped and misguided. Somebody somewhere is always telling us what the truth is and where to find it. The bases of organized religion is fear. Make a billion people fear death and what lies beyond and they will listen and obey anything you say. But human-kind has been here for merely a fraction of a fraction of the time Earth has existed. We are a new species and will eventually evolve into less fearful more knowledgeable beings in the future.
Rating: Summary: Unbelieveable Review: This is truly an inspirtational story that can't help but move all who read it. It has become my Bible. I highly reccomend it to all!! Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: AMAZING BOOK! Review: This book is my favorite book of all time. After reading other reviews, I realized that it wasn't only me that felt the need to go buy several copies to give to friends and family. This book has given me a completely different outlook on life and death. I read it in two sittings and could barely put it down. Whether or not the story is true, this book has given me hope and made me so much less fearful about death. This book is also extremely helpful for anyone that is grieving over a loved one. Believe me, I know. I'd recommend it to anyone.
