Summary: Good translation, but uses a poor Greek text
Review: I utilized the NASB as my primary Bible for several years. I did so as it is a very accurate translation. This can be seen by comparing the NASB with the word-for-word translation in an interlinear. Most often, the NASB compares very favorably with this literal translation.

However, depending on which interlinear one is using, there might be times that the NASB will differ significantly from the interlinear and even from other fairly literal translations like the KJV and NKJV. The reason for this difference is that the NASB is based on a "Critical Text" (CT) type of Greek text while many interlinears and the KJV use the Textus Receptus (TR).

The reason for the differences between these two Greek texts is very complex, and deciding which is the most accurate can take a lot of study. But wanting to have the most accurate Bible possible, I took the time to do such study. And in the process, I became convinced that the TR was to be preferred to the CT, and slightly better than the TR was the more recent Majority Text (MT).

So despite its literal accuracy, IMO, the NASB had a serious defect in being based on a less reliable Greek text. So now I utilize the NKJV or LITV, both of which are based on the TR.

I discuss this issue at length in my book difference Between Bible Versions. My book also has a full chapter review of the updated, 1995 edition of the NASB, along with reviews of over 30 other versions of the Bible.

Summary: Missing books from the Old Testament
Review: Maybe it's just the Bible I have, The New American Bible, but the hard copy version has more books in it then the ebook. In fact, one of my favorite Old Testament books was left out, Tobit.

Also, many of the versus are different from the hard copy I have. Maybe this is a more updated version, but the way they are worded, changes the meaning from what I've read in the actual book.

This would be a fantastic book to add to my eBook library, but if it's not complete, why bother.

Summary: Missing footnotes severely detract
Review: The extensive footnotes present in any print version are nowhere to be found. These notations are critical to an appropriate understanding of many passages. The ebook format could have significant advantage over paper in this case if pop-up footnotes were used. I, unfortunately, will not be able to use this particular download.

Summary: NIV better than KJV
Review: The NIV Bible is in my humble opinion the best translation of the Bible because it's the most accessible. People who are new to the Bible find the King James Version daunting because of its outdated style. But anyway, the Bible is the Bible, and it will changed your life and save your soul whatever the version, as long as it's faithfully and accurately translated from the original ancient documents.

There are many, MANY books, but the Holy Bible is the only book that really matters... matters most. It is the very Word of God, and its pages hold the key to salvation. It is eternal life. It is a manual "how-to" about developing a relationship with your Creator who created you in His image and loves you. It's also an invaluable history record of ancient times and God's direct role and intervention in human affairs.

Summary: Should come standard with PocketPCs
Review: This is an awesome thing to have on my PocketPC. Going to a catholic high school, its a godsend not having to carry a bible in addition to all my other books when I stroll into a religion class. Its fast, easy to use, and I love the translation.

What else can I say? If you want a bible you can carry in your pocket with room for millions of notes and highlights, this is for you.
