Rating: Summary: Not Christian Values, but Christ! Review: This book personally ministered to me at a time when I felt again overwhelmed by the cycle of repeating the walk, to walk, to fall, to repent, to repeat. Instead, in very concrete terms McVey helps to remove any notions left in my heart that I will somehow please God or displease God by my actions. It's a refreshing book that offers real help not through WORKS or review of the LAW, but simply by focus on CHRIST AND HIS GRACE. Wow! I needed to read this, and will read it again and again as a key ingredient to protect and live on with fullness in Christ. One wonderful quote as an example of setting me free from work and law was this: "Luke said that Martha was distracted from Jesus. What caused her attention to be distracted away from Jesus? Serving Him!" Excellent book, highly recommended especially for those who struggle to live the full and rich life in Christ, and are hampered with struggles of self and world like I was. Yes, I have already been set free -- now I can live like it! Romans 8:1
Rating: Summary: Too many Christians are trapped by self imposed rules. Review: What can I do for God today? How can I make God proud of me? I am going to spend my life doing God's work. I do hereby resolve to ___________! (Fill in the blanks with anything religious.) Steve McVey shows us from scripture the futility of trying to 'work' for God. Spinning our wheels for the Lord leads to burn-out and depression. Instead, Steve would have us simply enjoy a deep relationship with God. This relationship is sustained and maintained by God Himself! The Christ-life is not our responsibility. It is all the result of God's grace. Easy to read and understand. The truths in this book will revitalize the life of any Christian who reads it.
