Rating: Summary: A Great Study Tool Review: I find this study bible to be an excellent source to study God's word. It has so many wonderful study notes as well as in depth articles on various important topics that Christians need to know about. I would highly recommend it for every Christian's library.
Rating: Summary: one of the best Bibles around Review: I have been reading Bibles for nearly 50 years and I think this one is one of the best around. I love it, my 21 one year old son loves it and my husband wants one for father's day, This Bible is not stodgy!. I love the discussion on wine.
Rating: Summary: The NIV Full Life Study Bible Review: Just being a new Christian, this bible is very easy to read and understand. The notes are very well explained helping me to want to grasp more. I recommend this for those who tend to get lost reading the traditional ones. I like it so much, I'm purchasing another one for my husband!
Rating: Summary: Aiming at the Full Life Review: The Full Life Study Bible is an excellent publication. If you are looking for an NIV Bible with the larger 35000 Concordance ( sadly lacking from most Concordance editions these days in favour of the reduced 13000 listing) and copious Study Notes and Articles from a more charismatic perspective - then this Bible could be the one for you. The leather Bibles are beautifully bound and well presented. The Study Notes are situated at the bottom of the pages whilst Articles on various aspects of 'Spirit Filled' Living are placed throughout the book, rather than together in one place ( which may not suit everyone, although they are clearly indexed). The quality of the notes, written by Donald C Stamps, are excellent. The stance taken is both evangelical and charismatic - although I would not agree with all his interpretations. For example he argues that a born again Christian cannot have a demon. There is also a strong push on holiness ( good) but frequent warnings that a lack of full commitment to Christ could lead to a loss of salvation ( sure?). There is a hint, in my view, that a few comments are a little harsh. That said, a postive view is taken on the Gifts of the Spirit for all believers, standards of morality and Divine Healing, and many other areas. Other features you may favour include words of Christ in red, cross references in a centre column and Bible book summaries at the beginning of each book.Steve Hawkins
Rating: Summary: Full Life Study Bible Review: The Full Life Study Bible is is best Bible I have used. It has been a great asset to helping me understand truths from God's Word. I recomend it to anyone who wants to know and understand God's Word.
Rating: Summary: Clear text....Clear power!! Review: The NIV Full Life Study Bible is an excellent choice for christians. Although I do not agree with all of the notes most of them are excellent and practical. This Bible is uncompromising in its adherence to historic christianity. The text and notes are clear and bold unlike its successor (Life In The Spirit Study Bible). Go for the original it's easier on the eyes! This Bible contains thorough book introductions; annotations; indexes; maps and a concordance. It has a pentecostal emphasis but that won't hurt non-pentecostals (like myself) a bit. Rating: Summary: A Good Pentecostal/Charismatic Study Bible Review: The NIV Full-Life Study Bible is based on the NIV,which, for better or worse, seems very popular today. It is a balanced translation, in between a formal equivalence(word-for-word)and dynamic equivalence(basically thought-for-thought). Words have been added to, or deleted from, the Greek text of the New Testament. Ergo, one is reading the words of men mixed in with the Words of God. The annotations in this Bible are from a traditional Pentecostal perspective; with 4 total pages taken up with the subject of wine, expressing a temperance viewpoint rather than the actual 1st century meaning of wine. This is a good Study Bible, with nice, dark print. However, keep in mind that the editor was a member of the Assemblies of God, and the annotations reflect their belief system.
Rating: Summary: Serious problems with the NIV translation Review: The NIV utilizes a thought for thought translation principle rather than the more literal word-for-word principle of versions like the NASB or KJV. If you compare the NIV to these versions or to the word-for-word translation in an interlinear, you will notice it often differs significantly. And when does, it will either be because the NIV is not translating words found in the Hebrew and Greek texts, or the NIV is adding words not found in the original texts. And even worse, these added words are not offset from the original God-inspired words by being placed in italics like the NASB and KJV do. A simple example of the former can be seen in Joshua 1:8. In this verse, the NASB has 50 words while the KJV has 48 words, but the NIV only has 30 words. You don't need to be a Hebrew scholar to figure out that the NIV has left out quite a bit here! And a simple example of added words not being indicated can be seen in 1Cor 7:9. The NIV adds the words "with passion" at the end of this verse without any indication it has done so. Altogether, there are probably thousand of added and omitted words in the NIV. To me, this indicates serious problems with the NIV. I discuss in further detail the problems with the NIV and similar versions in my book Differences Between Bible Versions.
Rating: Summary: The best price and a very useful Bible Review: The price was right!A new Bible at lower than retail price!Praise God from whom all blessings flow! The verse by verse commentaries are very useful and help me to share with others in a home cell group that my wife and I are actively involved in.I think that the NIV is a very good translation.
