Summary: Highly recommended for anyone who wants to understand
Review: I would highly recommend this particular version of The Bible. The reading plans included are wonderful. The NIV version makes the reading and comprehension of God's Word so much easier to understand.

Actual maps are included in the chapters when needed.

At the beginning of each Book, there is a preview page to tell you who wrote that particular book and why, and when is was written.

I would recommend this version to everyone, and all ages.

Summary: You won't believe how this reads......
Review: I'm 42 YO and for the first time I'm reading bible stories with understanding and a desire not-to-set-it-down. It's great! If you've every wondered about why, then this is a must-read book. For example, the story of King David was remarkable. I've always thought, from my King-James up-bringing, that a boy defeated a giant and became King. I'm finding out so much moore! King David reads like a best-seller showing human suffering, defeat, and success. This book truely gives an insight into human history. I highly recommend it!

Summary: Good Study Bible, Start Wrestling
Review: I'm coming to this from a Reformed perspective, but when I first got my Quest Study Bible I was an Arminian. I tell you that in order to say that the Bible is good for all Christians wanting to engage the texts. It is a starting point and should be treated as such. Namely, it will not take definitive stands on issues Christians can reasonably disagree, like election. But it will give you the differing views. Many in the Christian community may think all Christians are pretrib, premil, Arminians. That isn't the case and the editors knew this. It is also good for dealing with specific difficult verses, besides addressing the big picture questions. A mini-concordance in the back is also useful.

After you start here, I would suggest getting a book or two on Bible difficulties. When you tackle passages you don't understand, you will be amazed at how accurate and beautiful the Bible is. If you are too lazy to wrestle with those passages, you miss out. People should also move onto commentaries by the giants of our faith: Calvin, Luther, Spurgeon, John Owen, Matthew Henry. I've mentioned all Reformed commentators, but I'm sure you can find good non-Reformed giants as well.

Summary: Best study Bible I've ever seen
Review: I've studied the King James Bible and the Living Bible, but my favorite is the Quest Study Bible (NIV Version). The comments in the side-bar areas give insight into the verses, the maps of Jesus ministry and Paul's journeys, and the dictionary and concordance make this a valuable study tool.

Summary: Agreed, but with a grain of salt.
Review: In deed, this is most definitely a very good study Bible, but as the other Lutheran minister (below me) would surely agree, not everything in it is 100% agreeable. I've found a few things that I don't agree with completely, such as issues on Free Will and Sovereignity. Nothing truly serious (I still also give it 5 stars), but remember to take the notes with a grain of salt. The same goes for any study Bible. :)

It's a wonderful beginners study Bible, but you might want to move onto a New Oxford Annotated Bible later on. (Another good one is the Concordia Self-study Bible. It's suitable for all Lutherans, not just Missouri Synod, and any other non-Catholic Christian as well.) The New Oxford is my all-time favorite, with the Concordia following along (the Concordia is actually a heavily edited edition of the NIV Study Bible).

Summary: "Beginners' Bible"? - Qualified!
Review: It is great if you want to hear prepared answers on a range of a simple topics. So you can easily start with this one. But... it gives you no chance to grow... Studying Scriptures deeply will cause the need of another study source like Thompson Chain-Regerence or smth. else. Do not limit yourself!

Summary: An outstanding Bible regardless of your Biblical familiarity
Review: Published in the easy-to-understand NIV format, this Bible is perfect for those who are newcomers to scripture. It explains a lot of difficult concepts and contains essays on frequently asked questions. Even those who are very familiar with scripture will find the essays and commentary thought-provoking as well as helpful. An excellent Biblical resource for anyone's bookshelf.

Summary: Great for Teens, New Christians
Review: The Quest Study Bible, with its two-color motif and practical question and answer format is ideal for the teen in your family. Our boys love theirs - and so do the kids we work with in the inner city. A joy to read with practical, Biblical topics. Everything you would want in a Bible for that special teenager in your family that you want to see grow in Christ and become the person God intended for him/her to be.
