Rating: Summary: His best work! Review: Thich Nhat Hanh is a prolific writer. I believe he has written over 70 books and this one has to be his finest. Each 'chapter' may be as small as a few sentences or several pages but they speak volumes. Simple, direct, and insightful. This is a book you will refer back to over and over again. Each section can be read, set down, and reflected upon. Thich Nhat Hanh is a Vietnamese Buddhist monk, who, during the Vietnam War, stepped outside of the monastery and began listening to people no matter their stance on the war. He is walking compassion. If you have the chance to hear him speak, do so. He is often in America and all over the world sharing his simply profound message of peace. Peace begins within us.
Rating: Summary: A practical guide to living well. Review: My copy of this book is well worn. I have enjoyed many of Thich Nhat Hahn's books but this is the one I revisit time after time. I refer to it when coping with the stresses of living in the world, in my family and within myself. It has never failed to help me focus and clarify the essentials of the situation at hand. Now my sons, are getting married and beginning their own families. I am sharing this book with them as a wedding gift. I also have created a reading for their weddings from the sections on Real Love and Living Together. The thoughts expressed are meaningful to the new bride and groom and everyone in attendance. I treasure this book as a guide to mindful living.
Rating: Summary: The only Thich Nhat Hanh book you need! Review: "Scintillating" best describes this book. If you want heady Buddhist language, steer clear. If you want bare-boned approaches to becoming calm and centered in this new world, "Peace is Every Step" is all you need. Get it and read why it is among Amazon's all-time top sellers! Beautiful! -- Jason M.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book Review: This is an excelent book which teaches us how things are inter-related, and it gets better and better towards the end. I find it very enlightening.
Rating: Summary: such a simple thought Review: The book opens with 'Twenty-Four Brand-New Hours' which begins: "Every morning, when we wake up, we have twenty-four brand-new hours to live. What a precious gift! We have the capacity to live in a way that these twenty-four hours will bring peace, joy and happiness to ourselves and others." This is obviously not a new or unique expression, but certainly one to focus on. This book helped me to focus on the joyful, the peaceful and the serene in my own life.
Rating: Summary: One book you can't refuse to buy Review: There are tons of books on Buddhism and the related topics but none so clearly talk about it and the life to lead than this book. Thich Nhat Hanh is one of the leading authors on leading a peaceful and meaningful life. His experiences and beliefs are presented clearly and easily in this book. Buy the book, read it, read it again and again then let your friends read it. We'll be able to make this world a better place...all starting with this simple book with the wonderful title!
Rating: Summary: wonderful little book Review: I've read many books by Thich Nhat Hanh, and I always come back to this one. The suggestions are practical and actionable. It's easy to read. You can read it strait through, or pick chapters which are 1 1/2 pages to read. The message underlying what appears to be simple stories is powerful and thought provoking.
Rating: Summary: Buddhism for Everyone Review: Having read many of Hanh's books, this is the most accessible to those unfamiliar with Buddhism. Having given several copies of this as gifts, some Christians view any other religious writings with skepticism. Like so many of his works, this book by Hanh is valuable to people of any belief. The principles and practices he espouses are applicable to any religion. Hanh extends the principles of mindfulness and 'monkey mind' to everyone. My Christian friends who have read this have found it valuable in aiding their own efforts at quiet contemplation. Regardless of its utility, it is also a 'feel good' book. It would be hard for anyone to read this with an open mind, and not come away with a feeling of refreshment and cleanliness. Of course, this is truly common to all of Hanh's more ecuminical writings. Hopefully, this book will serve as an invitation to explore more of his work, and to learn more of his remarkable life.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Review: I read this book twice once ten years ago and once recently. The last reading was the most powerful possibly because I had read both Converstaions with God and An Encounter With A Prophet. It was much easier for me to attain great peace after I had changed my concepts of God from reading these two books. try it you will like it
