Summary: Blessed Be!
Review: A very good book for beginners, it shows everything that you need to know about how to perform the spell. And it makes it clear that you don't have to follow the spell's incantations to the "t" and that it actually works best if you personalize it.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: In Response to some of the reviews
Review: Actually, in contention to most other writers and the mish mosh of junk written, black candles are NOT for protection. They are used to absorb negativity..not to protect...but to be able to use that negativity in other instances such as Controlling, Domination, Dume, Hexing, Cursing, Reversals, etc. Buckland's inclusion of the polarity virtues of magick are a refreshing change from the cotton candy fluff now written.

Summary: Don't waste your money.
Review: Although the spells are fair, this is a book with very little substance. Buckland packages Psalms with a few quickie-spell words of his own. There is very little here that other authors on magic haven't done 100 times better.

Try Spells and How They Work (Farrar & Farrar) or Real Magic (Bonewits) or Living Wicca (Cunningham) if you want the real thing.

Summary: Practical Candleburning Rituals
Review: Although this book seems to be targeted towards a larger audience in general, and not so much towards Pagans and/or Wiccans like myself, I found this book to have its good points but it can be contradictory in explaining certain things. For example, the author lists black candles for evil intents. I find fault with this because black candles are for banishing evil and for providing protection against evil. In all the books I have on candle magick, black is listed as protective. Also, some of the spells seem to have negative intents like the spell for arousing jealousy. No matter what spiritual path you are on, causing someone harm via jealousy or via negativity is ethically wrong and very dangerous because it will come back to you times three, i.e, the law of karma.

Nevertheless, if your spiritual path is Wiccan, then this is not the book for you. If you are interested in candle magick in general, read this book to get a different perspective on the subject, then be sure to read other books if you wish to develop an overall and deeper understanding of candle magick.

Summary: Disappointed
Review: Been reading Bucklands books for a while. Very disappointed when I got to this one. I had pegged this writer as someone of authority in the issues of Paganism. Instead I find Christian rituals. Didn't they do enough damage when our ancestors were drowned, burned and tortured? I disliked references to providing them with anything in the same book as the supposed Pagan spells. By the way. Anyone can make up spells and Pagans do so by way of rituals and beliefs but most of us do NOT sell them for money.

Summary: Great book for candle burning rituals!!
Review: Buckland's book, Practical Candle Burning Rituals, is great for doing any type ritual he has mentioned. It also is two sided...given you a Christian version for non-Witches and a Pagan side for Witches/Wiccans/Pagans to use.The directions are easy to follow and if you follow the directions that he has set for timing, moon phases, and use the appropriate colors your spell should work for you.I refer back to his book many times when I am teaching my students...especially when they want to know the appropriate colors and altar layouts for candle spells. The way Buckland has written this book is what works for him..there is no law that says you can not improvise your own words into the rituals he has written to make them work for you.Excellent book...easy rituals and great results!

Summary: What's the world coming to?
Review: For witches . . . and Christians! I found plenty of useful information on color theory and associations, but I'm somewhat disgusted to see psalm rituals in a book otherwise devoted to witchery. It's one of many diverse sources on the subject, so while it isn't the last word, it is interesting to see Buckland's interpretation. I tend to use simpler, more direct rituals. One question: if you're afraid of black candles, material gain, romantic interludes, spirits, or your inner quest for power, then why practice magick at all? I recommend you forsake religion of any stripe and work on your spellcraft.

Summary: Anyone can learn the basics of candle magick
Review: I have had success in using this book. I agree with someone else's comment that if the rituals didn't work for you, it's not the author's fault! This book is great, because you can adapt the rituals easily. Christians can also use this book, which is good. Some Wiccan books at times sound anti-Christian, but not this one. (I am Wiccan, and I know what Christians did in the past is wrong, and some still do it, but let's not create more problems by being anti-Christian). The rituals are easily adaptable, and I would highly reccommend this book. I have had much success with it.

Summary: What a great book!
Review: I know, I know... I should have written a review on this book YEARS ago! Sorry for the delay.

I remember this book from years past. Once, when I was a teen-ager and was out of work, I did a job ritual and guess what... two days after I completed the rite, I got a job! Awesome.

With all the bogus spellbooks out on the market these days, this book has got to be the all time best for seeing quick results! Be warned... the rituals are not easy nor are the quick. Some take a few days to preform! But then again, everything comes with a price and nothing in life is free!

Summary: Rocking
Review: I thought this book rocked it helped a lot for beiginers because I am a beginner at magick. I had a friend who read this book and she thought it was good but is too embarresed to write a comment. This book was the best.
