Summary: It's ok, but not great.
Review: This book bothered me somewhat. Bucklands use of black candles is a bit mixed up. Black is used for protection, or at least it is in every other resource I have come across. I also had a bit of a problem with his magick spells geared towards christians, however, in all fairness to Buckland, he does point out that Witchcraft is a religion, and magick is a practice. That said, I took a pencil and slashed every page that carried christian invocation of spells ( a personal choice so I wouldn't waste time reading the wrong version ). Overall, it's not a bad book on candle magick. It provides some interesting spells to use, despite my disagreement with Buckland's choice of colors and what there suppose to be used for or what they represent, but hey, that's my personal choice. Which leads me to this statement..I don't believe any spell should be used per batem from a book. You look at the spell, you read it, and to make it your own, YOU CHANGE IT, even just a little.. So, if you want a book on candle magick, this one is ok. Take what you like from it and simply disregard the rest. Blessed Be.

Summary: Great Manual of Rituals. Lacking as a Complete Guide
Review: This Book is an excellent beginners guide! There's only about 10 pages of real information that describes dressing the candles, etc. and the rest of the book is full of rituals. This is both good and bad. I was expecting more explanation to candleburining rituals and not just the rituals themselves (perhaps this is covered in the advanced guide?).
Some of his interpretations on Colors may be off (different authors have different viewpoints about colors and their meanings). But as general rule: BLACK SHOULDN'T BE USED FOR PROTECTION! Anyone who uses black for protection is probably advanced at candle magic and performing a special ritual. Remember this is a *practical* guide for beginners! Black is a negitave color and should be used for banishing, etc. not protection. White is a much more positive color for protection. Both white and black carry the same meanings (except white is positive and black is negitave). This is why raymond listed black the way he did in his book!

Summary: this book is phat for begginers
Review: this is a grat book for any beginner intrested in magick and could be also just as informative for the more advanced i encourage people to try this book out i'm sure it'll satisfy your needs+i would like to add im sick of those people from us or whatever thy're called tryin to interfere with others and the way they choose to believe i respect your opinions and don't take it personaly but keep your views to yourself how can one judge if they do not know what they are judging.thanks.peace

Summary: Pretty good, but people should not expect miracles
Review: This is a pretty good reference book for anyone starting to learn about a spellwork. May I just mention to some people who said that author should not include Christian rituals in the book, that this is completely bogus. This book is about Magic (which is a practice) as opposed to Wicca (which is a religion) anybody can do Magic and spellwork, and no not all of it is Pagan or Wicca in origin, has anybody ever heard of Kabalah? Again to do Magic one does not need to be of any particular religion (unless it is specifically stated, which in this case it was not. In my opinion it is important that rituals be constructed right for the end result to be sucsesful, and in this case it is. But nobody can ever guarantee a result using magic, it is so far an imprecise science.

Summary: Must have for beginners!
Review: This is a terrific basic candle magic book. Raymond Buckland gives two versions of each ritual from which to choose. He shows altar set-ups, lists candle colors and their associations. This is a great book that I have referred to over and over again.

Summary: Practical Candleburing Rituals
Review: this is a very good book for those starting in any kind of magic. It is easy to read and understand with with diagrams on setting up the altar with the candles and how to use them. Good starter book for those who love candles and those who don't. It has rituals for the christian and non-christian.

Summary: Not a Bad Book!
Review: To the reader from NEW CARLISLE, OH: You can't just pick up a book on Wicca and expect everything to work. If you had read another book on beginning Wicca you would understand that Wicca is a religion and takes a lot of work and practice. Even then sometimes your rituals don't work. If the divine intended something to happen, then It would happen. This is a pretty good book, but it is kind of dull and boring. A good reference, though. PS: It's not the authors fault your rituals didn't work, it's your own!

I HAVE DONE EXACTLY WHAT WAS TOLD IN THE BOOK AND NOTHING HAS HAPPENED. THE SPELL TO BREAK UP A LOVE AFFAIR, THE SPELL TO WIN THE LOVE OF A MAN, THE SPELL TO WIN GOOD LUCK ALL ARE BOGUS. MY HUSBAND STILL LEFT ME AND MY BOYS FOR THE WOMAN HE WANTED, I LOST IN COURT SO THAT MY BOYS AND I LOST OUR HOUSE AND EVEN THOUGH I DID THE LOVE SPELL ALL YEAR LONG HE NEVER ONCE SO MUCH AS CALLED. YOU ARE WASTING YOUR MONEY AND THE MAN SHOULD BE ARRESTED FOR FRAUD.
