Summary: Anyone Can Channel
Review: Anyone can channel, and this is the premise of this book. As with all of Sanaya's books, she herself is channeling Orin (Duane is channeling Daben), a wise and caring entity. It is their goal to help awaken humanity to the inner senses that we all contain and all of us can use. It is interesting to know that guides are just waiting for us to open up to them, and they are excited that we as a species are developing our abilities in the "unknown". Whether is be channeling or trance, this book will show you how to do it.Of course there is a difference between channeling and trance and this book explains it clearly to find which method suits you best. It is written in a very clear manner that is easy to understand. It is broken up into exercises that are easy to follow and the only thing you have to do is....practice! If you follow these exercies and keep practicing, you will eventually open up to channel. As always, with some people it will come naturally and with ease....others, it may take some extra time and practice. But don't be discouraged! Honor where you are, and keep practicing...it will happen for you!

Summary: This Book Literally Changed My Life!
Review: Before I even read this book, I felt it held inside some special message for me. This was the first "New Age" book I bought and read and it was a perfect foundation for my new life's journey. Even if you are not into "New Age," this book offers excellent instruction on how to quiet your inner self and meditate for relaxation and clarity.

Summary: A wonderful guide for spiritual awakening
Review: I first found this book in 1987, when I was experiencing my Kundalini awakening. I expected nothing from this book at first, but I followed the instructions on how to contact my spirit guide. As a result, I discovered my spirit guide's guidance and comfort through dreams and meditations. This was an invaluable guide for my kundalini awakening which could have been a very confusing and frightening time for me. Since then I have read this book several times to absorb everything and I have also used the meditation tapes and the book Living with Joy by the authors to help me along in my spiritual development. A must-read for the spiritual seeker!

Summary: Seems to have a hidden agenda to steer you on one course
Review: I found this book biased in a way I didn't find helpful. I'm not interested in learning to channel higher guides with names such as Orin and DaBen (the supra-authors of this book), or the other popular spirit guides. I'm interested in getting more in touch with my own inner wisdom (some call it the higher self or soul self) and learning how to verbalize it.
OPENING TO CHANNEL purports to help you do either, but both the text and the exercises are heavily slanted toward channeling the spirit guides. In comparison, references to the higher self are rare . . . and none of the channeling experiences expressed by workshop participants relate to the higher self. It would've been helpful to know how it feels, what to expect, what signs to look for that you're actually getting somewhere. All that and more is provided for learning to channel the "higher guides," but not for contacting your soul self.
So far the exercises have not produced the desired results, but perhaps I just need more practice. If they do work in the long run, I'll come back to this review and revise my opinion.
2/9/05.......After feeling bogged down by the exercises for the reasons given above, I did an Internet search and found an audio download called MEETING YOUR HIGHER SELF by Dawn Eve. My husband burned it onto CD for me and I listen to it with headphones. It immediately gave me what I was looking for--an emotional and intuitive connection with my higher self--without the need for practicing exercises over a period of time.
I'm happy that I read OPENING TO CHANNEL first and would still recommend it as a good introduction to channeling. (I tried to upgrade this book review to three stars but the editing software doesn't allow for that.) Now that I have the right tool to complement it, I'm satisfied that I'm finally finding what I was seeking when I bought this book.

It is very easy to understand, and does NOT make the art of channeling anymore complicated than it has to be. The excercises contained within the book are excellent. One of the reasons i love this book so much is because once i started reading the material, mild channeling sessions would just start to come naturally. Not to mention, most of us channel "more than we know".. This book simply makes you aware that you are doing it, that anyone can do it, and just how easy it is.... The text flows beautifully, and the authors are wonderful!

Summary: An Informative and Excellent How-To
Review: I love this book and consider it yo be one of the most important books in my electic collection. Even if you don't desire to become a channel yourself, this book is packed with information about the process of channeling and about spirit guides in general and the dimensions they inhabit. You experience not only the voices of the authors, Sanaya Roman and Duane Packer, but also the voices of their spirit guides, Orin and DaBen. Together, they present and detailed and specific picture of the different kinds of guides, experiences during channeling, preparatory steps to follow, a history of their relationships, and information regarding their workshops and the experiences of their participants. It is a wonderful beginner's book, and it is a book that you will return to again and again should you decide to pursue channeling. The primary message is democratic: Channeling is a skill that can be learned by anyone. While in the process of providing information on the topic, the whole area of spirituality, Higher Self, and living in the light are explored. The tone is always compassionate, loving, at times humorous, and always de-mystifying. Happy reading and exploring.
