Summary: Where does One start?
Review: Have you ever asked yourself that questions? Or have you and a group of friends asked that question?

well here is your answer! I normally do not enjoy Amber K's books but, on the suggestion of my coven mates I decided to give this book a read. And let me tell you it has changed my whole opinion of Amber and her books!

This book takes you through the aches and pains of starting up, managing, and training a real life coven. It gives you well thought of advice on problem resolution both within the coven and without. Along with providing some sound examples of the problem resolution in action.

This is a MUST have for anyone who is serious about either taking over a coven, starting a coven, or just wants to know how hard a HP and HPS life can get.

Summary: Has she ever been in a coven?
Review: I'm always amazed when solitaries say this is the great book on covenkeeping.
I was stunned to find out an untidy house made a bad priestess, or that the number of books in a house means a person is unstudied. (To me it means they are merely victims of book snatchers, like ever priest I know!.

One wonders where Amber's covens are.

Summary: A useful guide
Review: If you are thinking about starting a coven, a group, or a study group this book will help you avoid some common pitfalls. In
Most cases it is unrealistic to use all of the positions listed in this book it will help you to understand the nature of organized groups with positions. This will also help you to make decisions on which ones you need or will use, and which ones you will not.

For an individual who wants to join a group, it will help you to appreicate all the work that a well organized group takes. It will also help you view the potential group you are thinking of joining objectively. Not so much as in are they doing it right but more along the lines of will you fit in and be happy being a part of this group. Do they have goals and will you be happy to share a part in those goals. and are they organized enough to deal with group dynamic problems. As well as other things.

For the Solitary it provides greater understanding of groups that you may visit in the furtur as well as provide a spark of creative ideas for your own practice in the ritual that are listed here in.

Again I must reiterate, that not everything in this book is going to be something you would or can use in your own group. Look at it this way, here is a book that gives you a detailed list of all the things you could do. If you have a large group that is not afraid to devote themselves to a posistion and stick to it you could probably successfully fill every position listed in the book, but it's unlikely. So use what you can of the positions listed. The rest is very useful in group dynamics, rituals and the like. Very informative no matter you status group or not.

Probably not the only resource you will use but a very good one if you can't afford to buy many books on the subject.

Summary: Lots of things you wouldn't think of yourself!
Review: The coven I belong to, and helped found fell apart recently, leaving us with three members, one of whom is currently on a Sabbatical.

I wish I had read this book BEFORE my friend and I had started our group! I'm currently going through the book page-by-page and when I'm finished the other active member will do the same. Then we'll start to look for more members.

NEVER, NEVER, start a Witch's coven without first reading this book!

Particularly helpful is the section on Coven Offices and By-laws. Also the section of problem personalities is quite enlightening, having encountered the Adoring Accolate and the Drama Addict in two of our former members.

There are two other excellent books which should also be part of any coven's library. They are Wicca Covens: How To Start And Organize Your Own by Judy Harrow and Inside A Witch's Coven by Edain McCoy. The title of the first book is somewhat innacurate. A better title would be Group Dynamics In Wiccan Groups And How To Handle Disputes. The second book, Inside A Witch's Coven doesn't have a lot of information that I consider useful in starting or running a coven, but it is a great book to read if you're thinking of joining a coven and helping you do decide what kind of coven to join!

Summary: A working covens handbook
Review: There are many new Wiccans/Pagans/Witches out there forming new groups and covens. Not many are from older, established covens. Amber K has written a collective of Coven protocol and wisdom in her new book CovenCraft - Witchcraft for Three or More.

Although I am now a solitary, I was coven trained, and I found allot of this material realistic and dealing with real life coven experiences.

Covering such vaired topics as beginning a Coven, finances and personalitys, the book is easy to follow. She leaves no stone unturned and presents the information in a well organized manner.

For the beginning Coven, the book outlines understanding what a Coven is, what the basic needs are, how to decide what kind of Coven, how many members and how to deal with each individual, just to mention a few.

For the established Coven, Amber K covers the challenges of growth, possible conflicts and offers wonderful ideas for Coven activities, teaching Covens and Mission Statements for the established modern Coven.

Which brings me to another point. Though called CovenCraft, and is subtitled Witchcraft, the information in this book can be used by any group of three or more Pagans/Wiccan/Witches who are organizing for collective worship or social groupings. This book should not be overlooked because the title implies Coven or Witchcraft only.

I would include this book in any Coven library and use it on a regular basis. If you are an eclectic group considering gatherings, or Solitary's meeting for Sabbat group worship, this book offers a good foundation to work from.

No "Fluff Bunny" stuff here, Amber K may have written one of her most important contributions to Pagan reference material.

Summary: comprehensive guide to running a healthy coven
Review: This book is an unbeatable resource for Wiccan covens and similarly structured groups. There is some basic background on Paganism, then chapter after chapter about every conceivable aspect of finding, creating, or sustaining a healthy coven: finding people, deciding on coven activities and scheduling them, coven leadership structures, different systems of initiation, coven offices, group dynamics, activities, community relations, legal and financial matters, counseling, and more. There are multiple options for just about everything, so you can use this book regardless of the kind of coven you would prefer to develop and work with. There are sample rituals, advertisements, flyers, articles of incorporation, and liturgy. The author has decades of experience in forming and maintaining healthy covens that last more than the 2-3 years that is the national average these days. The whole thing is written in a down-to-earth style peppered with humor and fun. It really demystifies the coven and gets down to business about how good ones actually work. Whether you are seeking to establish a new coven or energize/stabilize an existing one, you'll be coming back to this book frequently for its thorough and varied treatments of virtually everything you need to give thought to. This is one you'll use.

Summary: Essential reading
Review: This book is excellent for any Witch thinking of starting, joining, continuing in, or leaving a coven. If you are a student teacher participant or wallflower, this book could be helpful to you. I would also recommend it highly to any solitary who ever works or plays with other Witches, and any non-Witch pagan curious about Witches, circles, covens, etc. I seriously do not think any pagan is more than a beginner without studying this book. So buy it, new or used; read it, alone and/or with friends; talk and think about it with other pagans.
