Rating: Summary: LOVED THIS BOOK!!!! Review: I almost passed on this one because of the bad reviews. Boy am I glad I didn't. Once again Ms. Gibson creates a wonderful novel filled with real people, living real lives, and making real mistakes. I don't agree with some of the reviewers who have said that this book isn't AS funny as Ms. Gibson's other books. I wonder if we were all reading the same book. Daisy's Back In Town is filled with Gibson's trademark humor. It's also hot and steamy and filled with raw emotion. My only complaint with Ms. Gibson is that she doesn't write fast enough. I highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: Makes me wanna read more of her books! Review: This is the first book of Rachel Gibson's that i read. And i wasnt disappointed. I loved the plot and the sex scenes. Some people say that this is not Gibson's best work. If that's so, i'm looking forward to reading her other books.
Rating: Summary: Waste of time and money! Review: I do not believe that I have ever given a book a 1 star rating before. But this one definately deserves it. After reading the sypnosis on the back of the book, I thought "ok, this could definately be interesting." It said absolutely nothing about lies, deception, or self-centered shallow characters. Obviously those are in every romance book, but not to this extent. I usually read Ms. Gibson's books with the intention of sitting back, relaxing, having a laugh, and slip into an imaginary world filled with attraction and romance. Do not expect any of those experiences while reading this book. I remember feeling confused and anger that I have never experienced before while reading anything. Only read this is if you are A) having an unusually bad day and are absolutely bored to tears and this is the only thing in reach to read or B) if you are in an exceedinly good mood and want to get in a bad one in top speed. I'm sorry but I do not feel that I should have to pay $6.99 for a book that is going to leave me feeling anger rather than happiness. Nor would I advise someone to pay the $1.50 that I see is currently the lowest price for a used copy. Don't waste your money. Disappointment is what I feel towards Ms. Gibson concerning this book. It is nothing even remotely close to the previous books that she has written. You will probably find yourself checking the front of the book to make sure that the name Rachel Gibson is on the cover if you have read any of her previous works. Take my advice and skip this one. I only hope that Ms. Gibson is able to redeem herself with her future writings by proving that she is in fact a writer of fun and romantic books. This piece however, does not hold true to that statement.
Rating: Summary: Great Writing, HORRIBLE PREMISE... Review: I love Rachel Gibson as a writer. She has a wonderful way with words, and it is that alone which allows me to give this book 2 stars. Because I absolutely hate the story line. I just cannot enjoy a romance novel in which the heroine has kept a child away from his/her father. It is absolutely unforgiveable. If the father is a maniac or unfit, and it is done to protect the child physically, then sure. But to never tell the hero that he has a child solely because "I was afraid you didn't love me any more", is ridiculous. And that was Daisy's excuse. After that, I just didn't want to see Jack fall back into a relationship with Daisy. It was a lousy thing that she did, and she is the worst kind of heroine--selfish and inconsiderate. I'll try other Gibson books, but this one is a must skip for anyone who feels the way I do on the subject. If you like lying, deceitful, selfish heroines then this is the one for you. Because like I said in the beginning, it is well written.
Rating: Summary: Good read Review: I really like Rachel Gibson books and was not let down on this one. I love stories when the main characters share a past. I get tired of the "playing hard to get" and "I'm just not looking for love" nonsense. And the romance was real steamy. It's been awhile since I read this book, but I keep it on my shelf in the hopes to read it again when I can't find anything good. Rachel Gibson did a good job and I look foward to her next book.
Rating: Summary: One Star is Giving Too Much Review: I discovered Rachel Gibson with her book True Confessions, which I loved. I then went through and read all of her previous works (Simply Irresistable, Truly Madly Yours, and It Must Be Love), and I was impressed. Anxiously I awaited Lola Carlyle Reveals All, and I was slightly disappointed. Then came See Jane Score, which I had to force myself to finish. When I saw Ms. Gibson had written another, I talked myself into giving it a try. I couldn't even finish Daisy's Back In Town.
This book is the antithesis of anything romantic. Selfish people making selfish choices and hurting everyone around them is not a good premise for a romance novel. If you want to read good romance, read her first four books. Bluntly I'm beginning to wonder if Rachel Gibson shouldn't hang up her pen and admit defeat to writer's block.
Rating: Summary: BORING Review: The very first book of Rachel Gibson was wonderful and promised a bright future.
And so far it has been disappointing each time when a new book was published. But this one really takes the cake.
One must wonder if the author has lost touch, is bored or just not interested.
This is teenage material. The story is lame, easy, and really there is not plot in it. Some laughters here and there but more out of desperation that finally the story moves forward or brings SOMETHING. The characters are coming across as lame, dumb or just plain boring. Been there done that type of story.
If this is all that Mrs. Gibson has to offer then she should take some time out and rethink her style and perhaps then publish a new, wonderful book. This is what happens when they accept contracts that require of them to write a certain numbers of books. The steam is gone and so is the story and the fun style. Absolutely not worth reading, not the money. Disappointing. Small town life, no big deal, I can handle that, but the characteres are so lame and you just want to scream and pace through the book quickly so you can be done with it. After all you have paid money for it. YOu can't even get in touch with the charcters. No advancing and no personality. Give me a break.
After page three you just want to scream.... TELL HIM ALREADY..
And then she throws in some stupid situations with the sister just to keep the plot going. Okay we get it the little kid has a mullet hair cut. How many times do you have to repeat that. It is as if she had a good thought for a story and couldn't make it into a nice book. And therefore repeated things over and over again. I felt as if the entire time I was reading and repeated to read what was just said the page prior.
Absolutely boring, horrible and just lame and not worth the penny.
Hopefully the next one will be better but all of her books so far are without depth or enticing stories. So sad to see that.
Hopefully she will find her way again, soon.
Rating: Summary: Good but not great! Review: I tend to love Rachel Gibson in general. This book wasn't great, but wasn't all that bad either. I think the thing that disturbed me most was the fact that there were many typos throughout the book, "passed", "where", etc. Nothing worse than a book that isn't free of spelling errors.
Rating: Summary: Great book! Review: This is my second Rachel Gibson book (I read See Jane Score first) and I loved them both so much that I bought all the books she's written. This book had mixed reviews, so I didn't know what to expect, but I loved it. My favorite thing about Gibson's books is her love scenes. They're written more realistically than some other authors (Janet Dailey comes to mind). And she seems to favor characters in their thirties (at least the two books I read) which is nice. I liked the premise, that Daisy, Jack, and Steven were best friends growing up and betrayal separated them. I'm not giving anything away to say that Steven and Daisy's 15 year-old son Nathan is really Jack's. The book begins with Daisy going to Jack's house to tell him the secret she's kept for all those years. She's only supposed to be in town for a week, but Jack's bitterness won't allow him to hear her out, so it takes several tries on Daisy's part to talk to him. The more they interact, the more Jack finds he still can't resist her, even though he doesn't want to want her. The scenes where they briefly re-unite, almost against their own wills, are so hot! But when Jack finally learns the truth about Nathan, he's furious. He feels robbed of all those years he's missed with his son. Jack is a likable, sexy, strong character, one most women would be attracted to. He's bitter, but anyone can understand that, considering what his two best friends did to him. But the reader sees Daisy's point, too, and how scared she must have been to be eighteen, pregnant, and thinking her boyfriend doesn't love her anymore. The thing that saves Daisy as a character is that she's very remorseful and never tries to defend her actions. She really wants Jack to get to know his son. The later part of the book, where Jack and Nathan get to know each other is very sweet. I really enjoyed this book, and if it's not Gibson's best work, then the others must be pure gold!
