Rating: Summary: 3 1/2 STARS Review: Fifteen years ago Daisy stomped all over Jack's heart when she married his best friend and hightailed it out of Texas shortly after his parents died in a car crash. Jack had thought the years had softened the sharp edge of betrayal until the night Daisy showed up at his house demanding to speak with him. Her presence opened old wounds that he had thought were healed and Jack is determined to steel his heart against her. But there's just one teensy problem: Daisy won't get the hint and leave him alone. She follows him everywhere and won't leave him alone until he hears her out but Jack has no interest in what Daisy has to say. It's just that no matter how hard he tries to keep her at a distance eventually Daisy manages to worm her way back into his head and eventually his heart. However, happily ever after won't come easy because Jack finds it impossible to forget and after finding out that Daisy kept his son a secret from him for fifteen years he finds it even harder still to forgive. In my opinion what makes Rachel Gibson's books special is her unique ability to write "real" people. By the time I finish one of her books I feel as if I've known these people all of my life. This book is no exception to that rule. The main characters are never boring and Nathan, Daisy and Jack's son, was a joy to read. What kept this book from being a keeper for me was Daisy and her past actions which I thought were inexcusable and callous and I did not think she ever really redeemed herself. I also thought that Jack's forgiveness of Daisy was much too abrupt and was not in sync with his character. In my opinion he should have made Daisy grovel just a tad bit before admitting his love for her. In the end I just could not suspend disbelief long enough to accept that Jack could get over Daisy's actions so easily and so quickly. The book also suffers from weak second characters which do not really serve to move the plot along. In short, I think that if this book had been written by any other author it would have been great but by the author of one of my favorite contemporaries of all time (See Jane Score) it is merely so-so.
Rating: Summary: Rachel Gibson writes romance with testosterone Review: Rachel Gibson manages to write romance heroes who feel like real people. In this book, she gets inside the hero's head and depicts his take on reality so convincingly that by the time Jack got physical with the heroine, the little hairs on the back of my neck stood up. There is a real conflict at the center of this book, not just a simple misunderstanding, but I like my romantic comedies with real drama in them.
Rating: Summary: Heroine has a fatal flaw! Review: I was counting the days until Rachel Gibson's next release. I've read EVERYTHING else she's written and have loved it all (5 stars!). This book, however, was very disappointing and I couldn't finish it. The main problem is the unlikable main character who decides to never tell her former boyfriend that she had his child. Then, MANY years later after her husband dies and she returns to her hometown..... You can guess the rest. I just couldn't get past how cruel and heartless her act was. I really did not like this character. As a result, I couldn't finish the book. Back to my used bookstore it goes! I gave it 3 stars (versus 1 or 2) because her writing is intelligent and smooth. My advice: DON'T buy this, but DO buy any other Rachel Gibson. I hope she can get back on track next time.
Rating: Summary: Best of Gibson Review: I absolutly loved this book. Every since I read SEE JANE SCORE last year, I've been waiting for a new Gibson and I was not disapointed. Daisy and Jack are perfect. I really like that Gibson made Nathan a real fifteen year old kid, and not some cardboard cut out of an all American boy. I have an Aunt from Texas who reminds me a lot of Daisy's mother. She cracked me up.
Rating: Summary: love it!!!!!!! Review: Did we all read the same book? Daisy's Back In Town is wonderful. The hero is hot and Daisy is gutsy. Loved Daisy's sister Lili. Don't let the bad "reviews" of this book stop you from buying it. I think some of the nasty reviews are written by the same person.
Rating: Summary: Loved it! Review: I can't believe there's any negativity with this book. I loved every single word. I have been looking forward to this book for a long time, and when I read it, I was not disappointed. Far from it! It was vintage Gibson, and it's going on my keeper shelf right there with all her other wonderful books. Jack and Daisy were both sympathetic characters to me, the teenage son was very realistically portrayed, and Daisy's sister was priceless. Keep 'em coming, Ms. Gibson!
Rating: Summary: Hated it, hated it, hated it Review: Of the hundereds of books I've read, this is the first time I've felt complelled to write a review. Hopefully it will save some people from wasting money buying this book. I love every one of Rachel Gibson's other books and couldn't wait for this to come out. I preordered it months in advance. Was I ever disappointed. I couldn't even get through all of it. The "heroine" was completely unlikable. In fact, the worst I've ever read. I can't believe anyone would want to read about someone who would run off and marry the hero's best friend, knowing she was pregnant with his baby, and doing it the SAME WEEK both his parents were killed! (Her excuse: the timing was bad. No kidding!) And then not telling him he had a son for 15 years. And to top it off, she spends the first half of the book missing her dead husband, remembering how wonderful he was - this is the same man that ran off and married his "best friends" girlfriend instead of supporting his friend who has just gone through the worst time of his life. Not my idea of a wonderful man. I couldn't get past that. I then had to hate a hero who would suddenly want this horrible, shallow woman back in his life. I read romance novels for the feel good effect and this one had absolutely none. Actually, it had the opposite effect and that is when I quit reading it. DO NOT waste your money on this one.
Rating: Summary: Better than most of the books I've read recently Review: I'm surprised at the negative reviews for this book. I bought it and read it in one sitting. I laughed, I cried, and yes, I cringed at some of the decisions that were made, but I still liked the characters and enjoyed the story. I didn't see it as Daisy pulling a stunt but rather as being young, scared and accepting help from one of the two people she trused and cared for. I think sometimes we expect too much from our favorite authors and set ourselves up to be disappointed. It's a great story, maybe not her best, but I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely awful! Review: I agree with all of the other readers who hated this book. I think even one star is too much. I don't know how any reader who said they loved this book could be serious about the "love" between Daisy and Jake. There wasn't any. Lust maybe, but not love. I don't know how anybody could pull the stunt that Daisy and her husband,(Jake's supposed best friend), did and expect Jake to forgive. I tried to finish this book since I invested time and money but couldn't stomach any more after having Jake finally find out the truth, Daisy thinks she'll go merrily back to her old life and he'll wave bye-bye. Puh-lease! This was the most clueless, unlikable heroine ever. Read any of Ms. Gibson's other novels for a truly enjoyable read, but skip this one.
Rating: Summary: Not Rachel's best work Review: I usually love any book by Rachel Gibson. Her humor, snappy dialogue, and wonderful character's always have me coming back for more. It appears that Rachel has tried to explore new territory with this book and the results are unfortunate. The humor and lightheartedness is not present in this book. It is impossible to sympathize with Daisy's character. What Daisy and Jake's best friend did to the hero Jake is unforgivable. I couldn't get past it and it pretty much ruined the story for me. If this is your first book by Rachel and you were unimpressed, I recommend giving her another try with "See Jane Score" or "Truly Madly Yours". Way better books in my opinion.
