Rating: Summary: Fun, lighthearted love story Review: I really enjoy everything that Ms. Phillips writes. She has a nice light, fun way of writing love and romance that feel like real life. This is a story of an ugly duckling (with a lot of spunk!) falling for a superstar football hunk and proving to him just how special she is. He realizes after his career in football ends because of injuries, just what he really wants out of life. And it's all because of the ugly duckling turned confident in herself. What a great story - lots of fun and one to read if you like a happy ending!
Rating: Summary: Love and laughter make a "heavenly" combination. Review: "Heaven,Texas" has all the elements that make romance reading at its very best. When you aren't chuckling at the antics of Billy Tom and Gracie, you're sighing with longing for similar sexy romps like the ones they have, as they succumb to each other's charms. Oh, and the sensual love story between the secondary characters ain't bad either. Ms. Phillips creates a whole town (Heaven, Texas) full of humorous, caring folks who watch and read (along with you) the signs of true loves finding each other ag
Rating: Summary: Overrated - Phillips is so much better than this! Review: After reading This Heart of Mine (implausible, but good) and It Had to Be You (somewhat dated, but still enjoyable), this 5-star SEP title seemed the next obvious buy. Unfortunately, it was a big disappointment. Here's why.
Bobby Tom was, for the most part, a jerk. Sorry, I just couldn't warm to him at all. His relationship with Gracie, as written, made no sense - it seemed like he mostly felt sorry for her. Gracie seemed to hero-worship him - based on what (other than his looks) I'm sure I don't know. Possibly she felt sorry for him as well, losing his career and all. Only toward the end there is some sense that Gracie comes to view Bobby Tom as a person with some actual faults, and makes him grovel a bit, rather belatedly.
The supporting characters are good, in fact SEP has never disappointed in that respect, but the secondary romance between Bobby Tom's mother and Way Sawyer made for some pretty uncomfortable reading. It also seems like every major female character in SEP's books must undergo some humiliating experience before the story can take off, which I find troubling. Gracie is no exception - in fact, it's a wonder she had any self-esteem left.
In terms of prose and dialogue, Phillips is one of the best romance writers working today, and I've bought several of her books since this one. She can - and should - put her talent to better use.
Rating: Summary: Bobby Tom changes careers. Review: Grace "Gracie" Snow grew up in a nursing home (her parents owned it) and now as a 30-year-old virgin, is on her own working for a film company. Her first assignment is to get the very reluctant Bobby Tom Denton (ex Football Player, who's career was cut short early) on the movie set. Bobby Tom has other things in mind though, none of which involve movies or Gracie Snow.
Gracie pushes her way into his life and eventually his heart. She jumps headfirst into his convertible as he tries to get away from her and does everything within her power to get him to Texas. When they arrive she is fired as they are 2 says late. Bobby Tom can't believe this as it was his fault not hers so he works a secret deal with the producer and pays her to be his assistant.
The more they are together the more her love for him grows. She stays headstrong and insists on paying for things herself as she doesn't want to be another person looking for "something from Bobby Tom" she wants to give back to the man she is falling in love with.
The story follows the ups and downs of their falling love and has an explosive ending when Gracie finds out Bobby Tom has been the one paying her.
I liked this story about the wideout. You will remember him from the other stories by Phillips involving the "Chicago Stars". I like that he in the end winds up with a real woman not a trophy. Though I do think it wrapped up a bit quickly!
Rating: Summary: a disappointment from a great author Review: This is my fourth SEP book, and I have been considering myself a fan of hers. Unfortunately this one is a disappointment. What I can not understand is the glowing customer reviews for Heaven, Texas. The relationship between Gracie and Bobby Tom is rather superficial and the nature of the main characters are slightly more than ridiculous. Bobby Tom and his life style is definetly kitsch! Although SEP had tried hard to make the readers believe his talents and intelligence, the result is somehow disappointment. On the other hand, personally, I liked to read the dialogs between Way Sawyer(the rich and the bad guy of the town) and Suzy (Bobby Tom's mother), their sizzling relationship was much more interesting. Hence, I must say that their part might have been a little bit extended.
I highly recommend you to read Dream a little dream and Nobody's baby but mine from same author, you will not be disappointed if you prefer light, humorous, real love-romance.
Rating: Summary: I love it, I love it, I love it!!!! Review: I was randomly preveiwing books online one night when i came across the book Heaven, Texas. I double clicked on it only because I thought it was a cute title and had a nice cover. But I am sooo glad that I did buy it in the bookstore a few days later because this is hands down one of the best romance books I've ever read. Susan Elizabeth Phillips creates amazing characters that are extraordinary and fun-loving! You can relate to the characters and there are times when they make you giggle out loud. This was my favorite book of hers, and i'm sure everyone else who has read it loves it. I've read this book at least 15 times since I've had (which is about 3-4 months).Bobby Tom and Gracie are great and this book just really makes you believe in true love (at least while your reading it)and that's saying something because I don't believe in love ( but that's another story for another time). I also encourage you(anyone who actually reads this) to read her other books as well ( although Hot Shot and Just Imagine definitly weren't that great if you ask me, but that's just because they're not as light as the Chicago Stars series). I especially recommend It Had to be You and the other Chicago Stars books.
Rating: Summary: Another Winner! Review: Another great read by Susan Phillips. A little predictable but very humorous and heart warming. I truly enjoyed and you will not be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Great story BUT.... Review: Gracie Snow is a 30-year-old virgin who has spent all of her life caring for the elderly at her parent's nursing home, until a month ago when her mother sold the facility. This lands Miz Snow in a Hollywood job as a production assistant. Gracie's job is to get the very reluctant Bobby Tom Denton (ex-NFL Player) on the movie set. Mr. Denton has other things in mind, but none of which involve movies or Gracie Snow. This story might be one of my favorites by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. It's every woman's fantasy, or at least mine, to get the sexy hard body professional football player (and he falls in love with you!). And who better than Gracie Snow as his love interest, she is every NORMAL woman, aside from being a, 30 year old virgin. Which is far fetched but I can accept it. This story surprised me, I thought with a lead character named Bobby Tom that I would dislike the story, but Bobby Tom was a lovable, flawed, and believable character. Gracie Snow's character was great in that she was a normal woman getting the pro-athlete, but her character was somewhat lacking at times (mostly towards the end of the story). This story would have been a five star read for me, but the typos nearly killed me. I know, nit picky, but editing on this book was a nightmare. From the Bobby Tom Demon (instead of Denton), to Gracie spelled, Grade or Oracle. There were punctuation errors and words that didn't even exist in there! But all in all, more great stuff from Ms. Phillips, if you liked This Heart of Mine (which is my favorite by her) then you will love this book if you can stomach the horrible editing.
