Summary: A Good Linda Howard
Review: "Heartbreaker" is one of Ms. Howard's earlier books (cc 1987) and it has aged well. The story is about a woman trying to run a ranch alone while fighting off the tall, dark, handsome, and single rancher who wants her land. To add danger to the plot, there is the frightening ex-husband who wants her back under any circumstances. I enjoyed this book.

Summary: Can't go wrong with Linda Howard!
Review: Don't listen to "Heartless" review. This book was great! Linda Howard has a unique writing style. She gives us a story through the characters in such a way that you see they're views, even when their misguided and confused.

Example: (Not a spoiler) No, he didn't really believe her when she was run off the road, but she wasn't very insistent because she was assuming he wouldn't anyway because of her own past experiences. And he wasn't trying to be cruel. He just assumed she wasn't sure because of being so shaken.

Her Heroes are very "alpha," but only because they are so passionate. Always trying to hold on to these women and convince them to share their lives with them. Who wouldn't love the passion and persistence of men like Linda Howard's?

Yes, it was obvious who the bad guy was, and in a way, I don't think that it was supposed to be a great mystery, at least not to the reader. She gives us insight through her characters to the mistakes we all make by making assumptions without communication. You can't go wrong with Linda Howard. She's a great author.

Summary: Some reprints are keepers - not this one
Review: Early Linda Howard novels all share some similar characteristics:

heroes who are overwhelmingly strong, chauvinistic, opinionated, immovable, -- walking bundles of testosterone

heroines who are pretty, helpless, dithering, fearful, confused, yet somehow able to appeal to and interest the hero

a borderline nutcase (or not so borderline) or other villian intent on inflicting Great Bodily Harm, from which only the hero is truly capable of protection.

Sometimes this formula works pretty well- other times you aren't really sure if the heroine isn't just transferring from one sort of nutcase to another. Heartbreaker falls sort of in the middle; it's not a real wall-banger, like Loving Evangeline, but it's not as successful as Diamond Bay or White Lies. The problem is both with the heroine, who is a dithering, needy mess, even though she is a jet-setter with a "minor in Business Administration" (!), and the hero, who is on the knife-edge between possessive and obsessive.

I could easily see the heroine lapsing into the same sort of relationship she had with her first husband, so I had a hard time believing in the happily-ever-after. In order for a Linda Howard book to really work for me, the heroine has to have a core of inner strength to offset the Neanderthal tendencies of the hero--Grace in Son of the Morning is a good example. This book just didn't have that balance.

Summary: Talk about [typical]!
Review: He decides to make her "his woman", orders her to move in with him then proceeds to completely control her life. Treats her like a toy to bring out & play with when he wants. He won't allow her to do anything, just expects her to sit around all day waiting for him. He takes over running her ranch & thinks she's too stupid to even do his books! And maybe she is, as she's dumb enough to put up with it!

I love Linda Howard but this book was not a keeper!

Summary: Typical older Linda Howard...but GOOD!
Review: HEARTBREAKER was one Linda Howard book I had not read yet and I have been anxiously awaiting its re-release. Although not a stellar written book, it was one that once I got into it, could not put down.

The storyline is this: Michelle Cabot has returned to her now deceased father's rundown ranch to try and salvage it. John Rafferty is her next door neighbor and her nemesis. Each think they know about the other and their opinions are not high of one another.
Michelle is trying to rebuild her life after a failed marriage to an abusive man. To help do this, she wants to make a success of the ranch. Enter John, who thinks she cannot. This is the basis for this book, and one that has been told many times by other authors, but one that Linda Howard can tell well.
Like many of her heroes, John is an alpha male extraordinaire and Michelle is the heroine who seems weak, but is really quite overpowering to the hero and it is fun watching him falling in love with her...hard.

I thought the story started out slow, but once I got into reading it, I could not put the book down! It has it all: love, romance, suspense, colorful characters and of course, steamy lovemaking scenes that typify Linda Howard. HEARTBREAKER is not her best work, but if you enjoy her writing as much as I do, not one to miss.

Note: this book goes along with Diamond Bay, Midnight Rainbow and White Lies. Although it is not necessary to have read the other books, the characters from Diamond Bay are mentioned.

Summary: A skillfully written romance story!
Review: Heartbreaker" is a skillfully written romance story. I enjoy stories of this nature - stories of heartache, secrets, and raw determination showing the inner strength of the female character - to survive or to handle life as it is thrown at them. Stories that know how to keep the male character in line!

Love Ms. Howard's writing style, characters and storyline. A Romance Novel I found to be very appealing.

Summary: Another Keeper by Linda Howard
Review: I agree, this is a great love story with wonderful characters. If you have never read Linda Howard, don't miss this one. You will laugh and cry. One thing for sure, you will not be able to put the book down until you finish and then you want the story to just go on and on.

Summary: my first book read by this author
Review: I didn't like this book, because John was way too controlling to Michelle. I just don't get why Michelle loves him when all he ever wanted from her was sex from the moment he saw her. And, John easily gets angry at Michelle for the most simplest actions, even though he is supposedly in love with her. I just don't believe that John loves Michelle and that she is capable of loving a man like him. Even though this was my first book by Linda Howard, I am still going to continue reading her books because I have heard that she is an excellent romance writer. But if you haven't read anything by her yet, please do not start with this book, because it is so unrealistic.

Summary: I liked it!
Review: I didnt feel like starting a really involved book, but then again i didnt want to read fluff either. Thats when i came across this book. I thought it was a quick, fast paced, nice summer read. It kept me interested and never bored me. I liked the plot and characters, there wasn't much depth but still a good read. Made me feel happy! Perfect for a quick pick me up! enjoy
