Rating: Summary: Outdated Reprint Review: I disagree with most reviewers that this is one of Howard's better earlier works. I thought the story was outdated, and the hero was a throwback to the 1950's, not 1980's when this book was written. I wish Howard and other popular authors who are re-releasing their earlier books would update them like Catherine Coulter does occasionally. I love Howard's later books, and I can't even believe it's the same author who wrote these earlier books. Back to this book, I thought the beginning of the book was totally unbelievable, and I am willing to go with some pretty farfetched plots when I read romances. We are supposed to believe that a woman is attempting to run a cattle ranch all by herself (this alone is silly), but she has never even done a day's work in her life! Then the "hero" comes along and offers to erase the debt she owes him if she'll sleep with him! Shortly after that she does fall right into bed with him because, of course, she has secretly been in love with him for 10 years. A short while later, her power is cut off because she FORGOT to pay the bill, but she doesn't have the money to pay it anyway. Then she lives for almost two days without power, pumping water from a well! Her plan is to sell some cattle to get some cash. I guess she was planning to live w/o power for quite a while! Fortunately, boyfriend comes along and rescues her by ordering her to come live with him. I thought the story got a little better after this point, but I couldn't get past the silly aspects of the beginning, and the fact that the herione was SO delicate, and the hero was SO macho. You can judge for yourself, but if you are a fan of Linda Howard, I would take a pass on this one.
Rating: Summary: Not all that great...disappointing.... Review: I have been a loyal fan of Linda Howard's for a long time, and this is definitely not one of her better ones! The Mackenize series is the best route to go, if this is your first time reading any of her books. The series is wonderful, I loved her Wolf and Mary characters, reading about their children was a real treat. If you love suspense, try Now You See Her, also good. I cannot wait for Dying to Please in April.
Rating: Summary: I cant take it Review: I heard good things about Linda Howard so I decided to try one of her books out, I can give her the benefit of the doubt and maybe her other books are better but this book was awful. For many reasons....1. The cover was decieving, I was hoping for some good sexual tension and sparring but no.... John just seemed to be horny all the time and HAD to have her whenever. 2. I was really disturbed by him having to have sex with her while she was asleep, then getting her pregnant during the encounter talk about careless, I know condoms and pills arent a romance novel favorite but cmon be safe!! 3. The jeolous, psycho ex has been done too many times. 4. Like someone else said he basically wanted to control her every move, she couldnt leave the house without angering him. I just didnt see the chemistry between the 2 characters... Id skip this book if you like strong heroines....
Rating: Summary: oldie but goodie Review: I really think readers should be told upfront that a book is a reissue with a new title. This book is a good one one of Linda Howards best.

Rating: Summary: Heartless Review: I wasn't expecting the suspense in the story. I was under the impression this was a straight love story; vintage Linda Howard, but nope, she brought in a bit of her trademark suspense she is famous for today. It's not riddled with suspense like her newer books, but it has enough to keep you wondering and a little on edge. Mainly a love story peppered with suspense. The heroine Michelle was great. She is strong and interesting and the typical Howard heroine. Inheriting her father's ranch in Florida is not her idea of a great time, especially when she finds out it has been so deep in debt that it may never survive year's end. The main problem? Most of that debt is owed to the broody neighbor John. John is a hard working rancher that turned nothing into an empire but also hates Michelle's guts. A few years older than her, he detests the ground she walks on. Ten years have gone by since they last saw one another, yet the hate and anamosity has not disapated, its grown. Grown into something too big for the both of them to handle. Michelle must swallow her pride and hate and offer John something to save the ranch in place of the debt since she cannot pay it. But what John has in mind just fans the flames. Hate turns to unbridled passion and need, but something is lurking in her past that threatens to come to light. Can she stop it in time? And will John put aside his anger with her enough to honor her father's friendship over the years enough to give Michelle a break? Tracy Talley~@

Rating: Summary: I want a mystery Review: It was not much a story. The male character, John, did very little but be turned on by her. Other Linda Howard's books that I read had much more of a mystery story to them.
Rating: Summary: A Good Linda Howard Review: Just what I'd expect from Linda Howard. Lots of passion and possesiveness from the hero (which I love). If you like any of her earlier novels you will enjoy this one as well.
