Rating: Summary: Great read! Review: "Irish Hearts" contains two complete novels, including Nora Roberts' very first book "Irish Thoroughbred" and its follow-up, "Irish Hearts." Both books are wonderful to read, with endearing characters and original storylines. "Irish Thoroughbred" introduces Adelia Cunnane (Dee), who leaves Ireland behind to live in America with her uncle Padrick. Paddy is a horse trainer for Travis Grant, the owner of Royal Meadows farm. When Dee arrives, Travis is immediately taken with her and after watching her magic touch with the horses, gives her a job working for him. The sparks between these two begin to fly and Dee finds herself swept away by unfamiliar needs and feelings. Love blooms between Dee and Travis, but they must first admit this to each other before they can find happiness. "Irish Hearts" introduces Erin McKinnon, Dee's cousin. Dee, Travis, and their children visit Erin on a horse-buying trip to Ireland. They have brought their friend, and the owner of the neighbouring farm, Burke, along on this trip, and there is an instant attraction between him and Erin. Erin has always dreamed of a life outside of her small hometown, and when Burke offers her the job of bookkeeper at his farm, she accepts. Erin finds herself starting a new life in America, and falling head over heels for Burke. But Burke must overcome his own insecurities regarding his past before he and Erin can have a future. These two stories are full of romance and fun, and of course the exciting world of thoroughbred racing. These books are both entertaining and enjoyable and are well worth the read!

Rating: Summary: Lacks the charm of her newer Irish trilogy Review: "Irish Hearts" is 2 books in one -- Ms. Roberts' first-ever published book, "Irish Thoroughbred", and its sequel, "Irish Rose", published 7 years later. The difference in style and character development between the two is quite remarkable. While hints to NR's current detailed writing style were evident in the first book it ultimately comes across as very hurried and very "convenient". The main character, Dee, is an Irish transplant living on a Maryland horse farm with her uncle. She falls in love (or perhaps more correctly said, lust) with the owner of the farm, and he with her, and there is very little real conflict in the book as a result. It's very short (less than 200 pages), and very important milestones in the relationship between Dee and Travis are glossed over at best, leaving the reader rather unsatisfied. This book on its own would merit only 2 stars. The second book, "Irish Rose", if far more fulfilling. Dee's cousin Erin comes to the US to work for Burke, the owner of a neighboring farm, whose primary motive for bringing her over is to eventually sleep with her! There's also the explanation that he's giving her the opportunity to escape her dull, small-town life and see some of the world. Still, there's a lot more tension and fire between these two characters than between Dee and Travis in the first book. Both characters are more complex and therefore the reader can feel more emotionally invested in their union. This book was very well-written (save some equine inaccuracies) and probably deserves 4 stars. So, I give 3 overall! A caveat: the 2nd book has many things in common with another NR book, "True Betrayals". Horse racing, gambling, winning the farm on a bet ... many of the basic elements are there. However, it is ultimately a very different story.

Rating: Summary: A wonderful read Review: Although the story is in classic Nora Roberts style, it is apparent she has grown as a writer since the inception of her first novel. The characters and storyline are strong and compelling. If you love a good story, with a strong heart, you can't miss with this book.
Rating: Summary: Loved It! Review: Another Great Book by Nora Roberts I have not read one yet that does not keep me up half the night turning pages.
Rating: Summary: Love o' the Irish Review: As a loyal Nora Roberts fan, I was excited to read her first book. I also wanted to read this series because I am an Irish redhead, so I had a little bit of something in common with the characters. It was interesting to see how much Nora Roberts has enhanced the passion through her novels. That's not to say that Irish Thoroughbred didn't have it's share of passion, it just wasn't quite as fiery as her more recent novels are. But Adelia and Travis had their work cut out for them in their relationship. Both had misconceptions and hesitations, but both had open hearts as well.
In the second novel, Erin (a distant cousin of Adelia's) meets her match in Burke, a womanizer that won the farm next to Travis' in a game of poker. She is scared of his money, his reputation, and the fact that he wants her to come to America with him. He finds himself wishing to have Erin and only Erin. They get married before admitting their love to one another, so their marriage is a bit rocky. They find out that their marriage is not based on money or on sex, and are able to live happily. Both stories attest to the power of love and it's ability to change people for the better.
Rating: Summary: Irish Hearts Review: As always, with Nora Roberts books, I finished this book in 2 days.
Rating: Summary: Be sure to Read Irish Rebel after this one Review: Both of these stories were pretty good. If I had to say anything negative about either story, it would only be that the females are both hot tempered but seemed to be too dominated by the men they are involved with. But with the newest book in this series, Irish Rebel is completely opposite. Keeley, the main character (female) knocks your socks off. You'll enjoy this book, but you'll enjoy the newest in this series even more.
