Rating: Summary: What a fantastic read! Review: My sister-in-law was the first to read this book, at which time she passed it on to me, then my mother-in-law read it as well. Now my husband is reading it. I found the book to be thrilling and exciting. At no time did I want to put it down. I spent a whole day reading it and was left wanting to know more. I am now going to try and locate any and all books written by this author. I will admit I was hesitant at first to read a book about witchcraft as so many times they are not portrayed in a fair manner to witches. However, this was finally a fiction exception. I would love to read more authors who write about similar storylines as well. I am so glad I was turned on to this author. I would highly recommend this read to everyone. It is a nice romance story, too. However, I am glad that it is not filled with steamy scenes throughout. Duncan souds like a true great find as well.
Rating: Summary: Readers Rejoice:Witches,Romance,Adventure & Humor found here Review: This is the first of Ms. Shayne's trilogy. I haven't ventured into them, yet, but this one caused me to risk trouble at work, just to finish it on break, and run to the store right after work to buy Infinity, the next book. (And apparently inspired run-on sentences...) The characters are people, not plot devices, the story engaging, and the pacing appropriate. You may predict the basics of the plot, but you'll enjoy this one, nonetheless. At least I hope you do...Kudos to Ms. Shayne, too, for depicting wise Wise Women. Her mythology of Witchcraft is unique to the series, but her basic depiction of the beliefs is well done & sensitive. Also, she dedicated the book to many of the poor souls lost in Salem to the witch trials and executions, and that touched my heart. Enjoy. =0)
Rating: Summary: Can't put it down Review: This is the first time I have read Maggie Shayne, but it won't be the last! I liked this book! I couldn't put it down. I would suggest reading this book to the real romance reader. I liked the characters and especially the fact that it had a different aspect to it than the usual romance.
Rating: Summary: I loved this book.... Review: I have absolutely loved this story. I love to read about witchcraft and this book combined that along with a great romance storyline as well! What a bonus. Great characters...
Rating: Summary: Umm, Okay Review: It was okay. Loved the plot about immortal witches. But the thing I didn't get was how Adrianna was going to find the body of her true love if they already ripped his heart out. That must mean his body is dead, right? So the book was the sort of "Umm, Okay". Might read the sequel "Infinity."
Rating: Summary: Great Concept -- Distracting Technique Review: I liked the plot about immortal witches (both good and bad). The author has gumption for experimenting with a plot that covered several epochs. However, her viewpoint experiment didn't work for me. The heroine's scenes were told in first person, and everyone else's scenes were told in third person. Wow, was this distracting! Some of the plot twists weren't surprising at all. Also, the villain was just too villainous to be believed. Only briefly do we get to insight into his personality, and I wanted more. At All About Romance, I gave this book a C-.
Rating: Summary: Thoroughly enjoyable Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this book. This is the first of hers that I have read and have found it very enjoyable. Have always been fascinated with witches, supernatural and such, so this definitely fed my hunger for fantasy and romance all rolled into one. The concept of immortality has also always fascinated me - hence, I love David Eddings - and so I enjoyed that aapect of the book too. Will read the book again at some point.
Rating: Summary: I expected more... Review: I'd heard that this book or its sequel had won some awards, so I tried it out with high hopes. Unfortunately, I had to force myself to finish a book overburdened with purple prose, a predictable plot, sudden and often inexplicably-timed explicit sex, and one-dimensional characters who live only for their Eternal Love (or in the case of the villain, for his Eternal Hatred). I wanted to scream at all of them to get a life! To make matters worse, the blurb on the back cover gives away 2/3 of the book's plot. I can say as a positive point that the book did have a solid starting point for its plot with the concept of the immortal witches and how they get to be so. I hope that the author's other books feature well-rounded characters and plot twists, because this book certainly didn't. It will be quite some time before I try another Maggie Shayne book; there are too many other interesting-sounding ones to browse through here on Amazon!
