Rating: Summary: OK, he's a modern day pirate. We get it. Review: I enjoyed High Energy, and thought that I would enjoy this book as well. However, I felt the author worked too hard to tie this book to the previous one. I would rather reach the conculsion that Tyber is pirate-like by seeing him in action, than having it pointed out to me every couple pages. This book was very sensual, a plus, however the sensuality was the main focus of the book and the story line/mystery was a distant second. If that is what you are looking for, you will probably enjoy this book.
Rating: Summary: Welcome return of the Nick & Nora Charles of romance Review: Bravo to Dara Joy for daring to revisit two wonderful characters first introduced in HIGH ENERGY. Tyber Evans, the sexiest intelligent hero ever, and his zany Zanita, are the Nick and Nora Charles of romantic fiction. Combining his logic with her quirky intuition, the pair take off for Martha's Vineyard with Blooey the chef and Hambone the cat in tow, to investigate a B&B's culinary-based haunting. Joy treats us to sparkling dialogue and as amusing a supporting cast of characters as you'll find anywhere. As if investigating a ghost wasn't enough fun, we also get to witness Tyber's hilarious challenge to Zanita to prove that marriage would kill the passion in their relationship. The only reason I didn't give HIGH INTENSITY 5 stars is because Dara slammed the door on the bedroom just as thing were getting interesting a bit too often.
Rating: Summary: 3.5 stars Review: First of all, let me start off by admitting that out of all of Joy's books, "High Energy" was the one I least wanted to read a sequel to. It was pretty good, it's just that I much prefer her futuristics and her sole historical over her contemporaries. *However*, if you loved "High Energy" then you will probably also like "High Intensity" a lot more than I did. The best thing that "High Intensity" has going for it is its humor. In that respect, I enjoyed the book a lot and the dialogue is what took this book from a 3 to a 3.5 for me. But I'll be honest, if Joy's name wasn't stamped on the cover, I never would have known she'd written it. For one thing, her trademark *hot* *hot* *hot* sex scenes were not there. It was very much a PG-13 read and not what I've come to expect and want out of Joy. Another reason I was less than thrilled with "High Intensity" is because it just sort of lacked a certain "oomph". I buy Dara Joy romances because I enjoy reading about the hunt, the way she pens a hero finding and claiming his heroine. Zanita is claimed from before page 1, so there is no hunt to speak of. Had Joy focused on Mills and Gregor instead of Zanita and Tyber, perhaps this book would have been a solid 4 - 5 read. Since there is no hunt, "High Intensity" instead focuses on a case Zanita and Tyber embroil themselves in involving an allegedly haunted house. The main focus of the story is on this case instead of on the romance. Unfortunately, I wasn't drawn in enough to care very much for the case itself. It read a lot like a Scooby Doo mystery, only in this episode, Fred and Daffney are finally getting it on (at a PG-13 level). To be honest, I don't know if I rated "High Intensity" a 3.5 because of or despite of the fact that Joy wrote it. Had anyone else written this book, I probably would have given it a 3 at best. I purchased this book expecting to like it, wanting to like it, and was disappointed when it took me five days to get through it. But let me stress again that tastes are subjective. If you enjoy wacky "who dunnits" and if "High Energy" blew you out of the water, then do not let this review dissuade you from buying "High Intensity". If, however, you are like me and prefer books that concentrate on the romance and "High Energy" was just an okay read for you, then you can take this review to the bank.
Rating: Summary: Not up to Dara Joy Expectasions Review: I have read all of Dara Joy's previous books, and thourly enjoyed them. This one however just wasn't as good. Everything seemed to be a repeat of the first book High Energy. In my opinion she should have skipped this book and written one about Mills and Gregor, two characters whose sexual attraction would make for a very interresting read. This is not a bad book just not the memorable adventure of her others. If your looking for a great book, you can reread over and over again and still enjoy, try her books Knight of a Trillion Stars, or Mine to Take.
Rating: Summary: A disappointment. Review: I hate to be the " rain on the parade, " but after reading "Mine to Take" and waiting for almost two years for something from Dara Joy, ( who really is one of my favorite authors ) I was sorely disappointed in this book. I did not read the prequel,High Energy, but after reading the reviews, I don't think that it would have helped. This book was, to me, a combination of Clue,Ghostbusters, I Love Lucy and One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest. Where was the romance? The boy already had the girl and what was left was a sitcom masquerading as a romance novel. The hero and herione (Zanita and Tyberius-Where did she get some of the names in this book? )had no chemistry whatsoever, and their love scenes had all the passion and sizzle of George Burns and Gracie Allen. I am certainly not opposed to humor in a romance novel, but some of the charachters in this book were just too zany and unbelievable. For instance , Auntie who always wears three hats, all at the same time! I do believe that I read the names Yaniff and Rejar at the beginning of this book. Where was the tie in to the Matrix of Destiny charachters that was hinted at? I gave this book two stars because it did hold my interest, if only to see " whodunit." Dara Joy is a very versatile and talented author and I know that she can do much better. Her Matrix of Destiny series is proof of this. They are some of the best romance novels that I have read and even re-read. Please give us more Matrix of Destiny, Dara, and stick to "familiar" territory.
Rating: Summary: One-dimensional Review: Ever since hearing that Dara Joy was releasing a sequel to the fabulous story of Zanita and Tyber (High Energy), I have anxiously checked websites for a release date. I practically ran to the bookstore to get this book and left a bridal shower early in order to go home and read it. It is good...but, I had hoped for more emotional development from both characters. Tyber is sexy, intelligent, and obviously dervoted to Zantia. But, that's it! He wants Zanita. But, does he really need her? We never really get inside his head. We never see him take seriously the concerns that Zanita has over committing to a relationship. He simply decides that she has cold feet and he will convince her (in a sneaky, somewhat manipulative way) that they belong together.Tyber and Zanita are great characters, but they both need more depth and more emotion.
Rating: Summary: Science Made Easy & Sexy Review: You don't need to be a rocket scientist to comprehend the chemistry working between the eccentric physicist Tyberius Augustus Evans and the non-linear Zanita Masterson. The self-proclaimed pirate, Doc Evans and the journalist, Zanita team up with their own special crew for a weekend of ghost-busting on Martha Vineyard's Florencia Inn. Laced with HIGH INTENSITY sensual scenes they proceed in their convoluted way to solve the ghost mystery.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Fantastic! Review: Although High Intensity wasn't as good as Joy's other books, it was still out of this world! Tyber and Zanita are so adorably likeable and funny that you will be laughing throughout the book. I am waiting on pins and needles for Dara Joy's other novels.
Rating: Summary: very disappointed! Review: I was eagerly awaiting this book from Dara Joy, whose other novels I have really enjoyed. Unfortunatley, there is something missing from this book - like a story! It is about two characters who already had their romance in the book High Energy. I really enjoyed that book, but did not think these two characters needed another entire book about them. There was not much plot, basically another ghost mystery, interspersed with boinking and arguing about getting married. I found the book hard to finish, and thought the heroine was annoying. She was ditzy, which was cute in the first book, but was too much in this one. I wish I had saved my money!
Rating: Summary: Tyber and Zanita heat it up again Review: I was thrilled to find out that Dara Joy had written a sequel to her wonderfully entertaining book High Energy. If there was ever a romantic couple that I would want to read another book about it would have to be Tyber and Zanita. They are the funniest characters I have ever encountered, and their chemistry is great.
