Rating: Summary: An excellent read.... Review: Delightfully sexy and wonderfully touching. Julia Quinn at her best.
Rating: Summary: Absurd plot, ridiculous situations and artificial dialogue. Review: This book was a big disapointment, usually when I read a romance novel I really get into the story, but I couldn't with this one. The characters are not convincing, the dialogue was artificial and, what's with Lady Dunbury's thumping of the cane? This old lady looked demented to me. Who goes around thumping her cane for no reason whatsoever? In fact, I think all the characters are a little demented. They burst into laughter when there is nothing that hillarious to laugh about, they get angry for no reason and in general the react in a very weird manner. The scene that bothered me most was when Elizabeth finds out that James is really a marquis. Her reaction is, to say the least, crazy! I mean, it's ok to be a little upset for his deception, but to throw such a tantrum? Really, who acts this way? If I were James I would run in the other direction and never see her again. She is such a drama queen! I mean, there are worse things that finding out that the man you love (who loves you in return and wants to marry you) is a marquis with a lot of money. I think the author was striving for some lighthearted comedy, but what resulted was a series of ridiculous situations that should not have been longer than 100 pages. There was not a real conflic in this story. In the first place, what took James so long to realize that he should marry Elizabeth? He was looking for a wife, and for the first time found a girl that was all he had dreamed of. So what the hell was he about when he offered to help her find another man to marry? I was surprised that several people rated this book 5 stars. I personally wouldn't recommend it.
Rating: Summary: great! Review: I liked "To Catch an Heiress" alot, but "How to Marry a Marquis" blew that away! I laughed so hard at the dialogue and wit in between the characters. I was sad to have it end, but satisfied at the ending!
Rating: Summary: This was a great book!!! Review: I loved, loved ,loved this book!!! Anything by Julia Quinn is an automatic buy for me--especially in the Bridgerton series! I stayed up all night just to finish this one. It made for a wonderful night-- but an awful morning with my two year old!!! ...
Rating: Summary: Really 3 1/2 stars -- a cute romance Review: This was a cute novel. It wasn't exceptional, but I think it's worth reading if you like historical romances. I don't agree with Amazon's sensuality rating of 8, however. Julia Quinn's books are nice romances and do have some sexy scenes (as do most of today's romances), but I would rate her as about average (especially when compared with other contemporary romance novel writers like Lisa Klypas or Sandra Brown.
Rating: Summary: Funny, Sensual, and Happy Ending Review: Elizabeth Hotchkiss has three younger siblings... Susan, Jane and Lucas. They are all orphans, but more than that they adore their older sister and think she alone can solve their financial problems. Little do they know that their father left her with problems deeper than anyone can imagine. James Sidwell, the marquis of riverdale is bored with London. His best friend Blake (from how to catch an heiress) is married to the one woman James found interesting and unique. When his dear aunt, Lady Danbury, (who Julia Quinn fans know from the Bridgerton series) summons him to help out with a blackmail plot, he hurries to her aid. Elizabeth and James meet. Elizabeth is Lady Danbury's outspoken, witty companion and James is disguised as Lady Danbury's estate manager. In exchange for helping Elizabeth find a rich husband, James allows her to help him look for the blackmailer. The only problem is the more James gives Elizabeth lessons in how to Catch a Marquis, the more he feels he's the only husband for her. The witty retorts abound when Caroline and Blake arrive to throw a wrench in James' disguise. And then when the children and Lady Danbury take things into their own hands, James and Elizabeth become free to find their passions with each other. This book has some of the funniest, laugh out loud dialogue. Also, Lady Danbury is ever enduring as a great character to move the plot along. This story has some very sensuous moments and some very touching moments. Much of it shows just what a wonderful writer Julia Quinn is and how she has become well known for her ability to right humorous love stories.
Rating: Summary: This is the 4th book I have read - read 1st 3 bridgerton Review: I must admit that Julia Quinn is Fast becoming one of my favorite writers. I read this book in one day and just fell in love with her characters. Of course the Bridgerton Family is still my favorite, But James and Elizabeth were so fun to read about. I know I am not reading them in order, but I just purchased To catch an Heiress to read Caroline and Blake's story since you meet them again in this book.
Rating: Summary: JQ Does it Again Review: This book was so funny. I laughed so much it was a joy to read. What happens when a young girl needs to marry well since she has younger sisters to take care of and finds a book titled "How To Marry A Marquis"? The end result is hilarious and done only as JQ can do it. You will find old friends from other stories here as well as make some new ones. This is a don't miss book by a great author.
Rating: Summary: Grinned & Giggled through the Whole Book Review: Ms. Quinn has the most superb talent for creating witty dialogue and adorable characters, and I'm not just talking about the main couple! From the hero's unexpected, yet endearingly touching, kiss to "Miss Jane" to the laughable antics of a sly cat, this book was truly an enjoyable read. I caught myself going from grins to giggles to outright teary-eyed laughter and loving every minute of it. I'm so thankful it's part of a series. One book... for all of these wonderful characters... is just not enough! Thank you Ms. Quinn and please keep them coming!
Rating: Summary: Absolutely loved this book!! Review: Julia Quinn dazzles us yet again with her wonderfully witty dialogue, and fast paced story. There heroine is spunky and funny, not your everyday miss in the regency period, and the hero just jaded enough to make him interesting!! Another wonderful read, and probably her best yet--leaves me waiting with baited breath for Romancing Mr. Bridgerton!!
