Rating: Summary: Too little plot, too many pages Review: Like some other reviewers, I think this book has very little substance. The blackmail plotline is very thin and takes a definite backseat most of the time for the hero who's supposed to be investigating it. (And by the way, I guessed the truth about that in the first 50 pages.)This book would have been okay if it had been half the length that it is. I think the author relied on scenes of sexual tension to draw out the book. All it did was DRAG it out. The premise is too unbelievable to sustain 360+ pages. What proper young lady would allow a gentleman (ANY gentleman) "teach" her to kiss? Really strained my credibility. I didn't care much for this book, and I didn't care much for the Ravenscrofts, who I understand were in the book about catching an heiress. I don't think I'll be readiing their story, as they seem too silly to waste my time on. Sorry, folks, my advice is, unless you're already a Quinn fan and think you'll like anything she writes, don't bother with this book.
Rating: Summary: A clever little ditty Review: Very light-hearted and good family fun. I had a moment's hesitation when James suspected Elizabeth of blackmailing his aunt (had visions of the uh-oh big misunderstanding boring plot), but Quinn quickly dispelled that and luckily didn't go down that well worn path. Instead, she delivers adorable secondary characters and a companion with spunk. The only problem I had with it, was the lack of tension between james and Elizabeth. Everyone seemed to get along rather nicely. Still, it was very enjoyable and you do get quiate a few laughs out of it.
Rating: Summary: Delightful, charming, & entertaining! Review: I was attracted by the title of this book and I had enjoyedJulia Quinn before. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, start to finish, and even laughed out loud several times. I enjoyed the characters and the energy of the book. The love story was great. I wouldn't give it an "8" for sensuality rating, maybe a 6 or 6.5. I stayed up late reading this novel and have already recommended it to my best friend and my mother. I recommend it to you, too.
Rating: Summary: How To Marry A Marquis Fizzles Review: How to Marry A Marquis has a promising title and little else. I was expecting a great story and interesting plot. The characters are mundane and staid. I was very disappointed in the entire story. After reading the first couple of chapters I kept expecting the suspense to build and it never did. The blackmail in the story never amounted to much and the only really interesting character was Lady Danbury. How to Marry A Marquis is a disappointment. This is only the second Julia Quinn story I have read and I have serious doubts about whether I will read another. The Duke and I was a much better book.
Rating: Summary: Humorous Review: I found this book entertaining to say the least. Not much of a plot but it was a cute story. The best thing about this book is that it made me laugh out loud several times. Lots of amusement and very snappy lines coming from this author. This is the first time I've read anything by Julia Quinn, but it probably won't be the last.
Rating: Summary: More stars, please! Review: This book had be sighing with the romance, and in stiches from the humor! A triumph by this up and coming romance star!
Rating: Summary: What FUN! Review: I loved this book. "How to Marry a Marquis" is a fun, sweet, and entertaining story. When Miss Elizabeth Hotchkiss sets out to find a husband, she comes across a "manual" on how to marry a Marquis in her employers' library. When James Sidwell, Marquis of Riverdale; posing as James Siddons, her employers' estate manager, offers to help her, it turns out to be a very interesting lesson in trust, love and accepting that fate plays a hand in all of us. You will absolutely love this book and won't be able to put it down. I would recommend that you also buy "To Catch an Heiress" which is the first book and the characters also play a part in "How to Marry a Marquis". Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: How to Marry a Marquis' is Refreshing! Review: Refreshing indeed! This novel is witty, comical, and downright 'old fashioned'. The plot is cute, hero impersonating someone he truly isn't, and the heroine is taking lessons on how to find a husband, (a rich husband) and doesn't know that her instructor fits the category! The heroine is witty, brass, opinionated, and 'clumsy' to say the least. The hero is typically arrogant, tall, handsome, mysterious, and of course, richer than the Queen of England. The love was genuine, not oversexed and lust filled. That was refreshing! Ironically, I read this book is one sitting. Even though the plot did not contain a murder mystery, a devious blackmail, etc., I was able to remain interested and engrossed for one entire evening to finish the book. A fan of historical novels including intrique, action, murder, and of course, passionate encounters, I considered this novel 'off my beaten path' but found myself wanting to read more of this particular author that I only just discovered through a library loan.
Rating: Summary: LIGHTHEARTED AND FUN TO READ Review: This was not the first of Julia Quinn's books that I have read but it is one of my favorites. The story is light and full of laughter and romance. It does not mire itself in waist-deep problems and heavy emotions; but is sweet, has more than a touch of passion, and a joy to read. When your finished, give "The Duke and I" a try.
Rating: Summary: Not her best! Review: This was a cute story with some funny parts but it could have been told in about 200-250 pages. It was way too long and drawn out and I got very bored with it.
