Rating: Summary: This book is dubilicious, I loved it Review: Lauren is tough and don't take no stuff. Nick is tough and is a womanizer. He thinks he can get any woman he wants in bed!! But not Lauren, Lauren teaches him that you have to love someone before you go to bed with them.Great arguing and making up. I read this book 5 times. Only thing, I wish the author would have made it longer!!!
Rating: Summary: double standards - judith mcnaught Review: Double standards was the second book I read of Judith. The first was Perfect ( which I personally think is a disaster ) and I conditioned myself that I will be disappointed in DS too but boy - did she prove me wrong. I love this book and I really can't put it down besides it was kinda short. It made me cry and wish I could find the love Lauren has with Nick. She is such a witty character. I especially love the "Bed room olympic" remark she said to Nick. I really believe that who ever read this book will fall in love with both Nick and Lauren. Although I wish though that Judith will make a story of Vicky and Jim.
Rating: Summary: SHORT, BUT GREAT Review: The first of JM'S novels that i read, i think JM is simply tooooo good a romance writer.I loved Lauren, but loved Nick even more. if Nick maltreated Lauren towards the end like some reviewrs have said, it was just because he thought her to be like his mother. Although i think the novel ended too abruptly. i was looking forward to seeing/reading Lauren walk into Global's office premises once again with her head held high. albeit this flaw, it is a great book. like most JMs, i couldnt drop it til i finished.
Rating: Summary: Hated the ending! Review: I was so mad when Nick chooses not to trust Lauren! That just ruined the book for me, Otherwise it was good, but I wouldn't recommend it, there wasn't enough time with them "together again" to repent for the Ugliness Nick showed.
Rating: Summary: Maybe I didn't cry, but I did fall in love. Review: So, maybe I didn't cry like it was afore said. But I did fall in love with love. Well, love books. ...what I mean to say is that Double Standards by Judith McNaught was the first romance novel I ever read. (I should probably correct that too.) It was the first romance novel I ever read and LIKED. And boy did I ever like it. Nick Sinclair's character is one I have tried to find in other romance novels over and over again. There may be a few more Lauren Danners, but Nick is one of a kind. And Judith McNaught is not one of those cookie cutter, fill in the blank, trashy treasure writers. She is truly a GREAT writer. And if Double Standards doesn't spell it out for you, read Whitney My Love. Okay, the bottom line is, I'm eighteen. I was fifteen when I read Double Standards. And if I can break the mold of sex-starved housewife and read this beautifully written, tastefully told romance novel, then so can you. Or anyone for that matter. Read the book. I guarantee that if you don't cry, you'll at least fall in love.
Rating: Summary: A poignant romance Review: After reading this book, I cried. Judith McNaught's characterization and plot captured my attention from the first page to the last page of the novel. Nick and Lauren will remain one of my favorite couples in romantic fiction. Double Standards is my absolute favorite modern romance, and I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading good, emotionally satisfying love stories.
Rating: Summary: I cried Review: This was such an awesome book. I love books where the man makes a mistake or gets a wrong impression and has to grovel. It is so sweet the way he makes it up to her. I recommend anyone buy this book. . .and some tissue!
Rating: Summary: A Sweet Love Story! Review: This is one of those books that stays in your memory for a long time. Nick and Lauren were wonderful. This story was so realistic; the setting, the characters, the happiness, and the pain. JM does this well. Handsome, intelligent Nick was an endearing 'rogue', and Lauren was adorable. Simply beautiful.
Rating: Summary: An outstanding modern day Romance.... Review: This book is a real page turner, absolutely one of the best. The characters are true-to-life especially Nick! You'll surely fall in love with him because of the way Judith McNaught describes him, the ultimate dream man! The story is truly extrodiary because who knows it can happen to you! :)
Rating: Summary: An Awesome Contemporary Rake! Review: Double Standards is a very enjoyable contemporary novel. It has all the ingredients for a firey romance. A fabulous hero with rakish motives and a sharp heroine who refuses to be used come together in a fast moving, competitive corporate environment. After a powerful family member asks Lauren Danner to work undercover at Sinco, a rival company, Lauren applies for an executive secretarial position with Sinco. Once she arrives for her interview, Lauren has already concluded that she is incapable of spying on Sinco. Lauren then proceeds to fail all entry tests and deliberately makes a bad impression during her interview with the head of human resources. How is she to know, after leaving the disastrous interview, that she would meet Nick Sinclair, the owner of Global Industries (the company that owns Sinco), and fall flat on her face in front of him? Before she knows what is happening, Lauren has a job at Sinco the next day despite her deliberate attempt to botch her job interview. Nick attempts to ignore Lauren and his attraction to her. But Lauren doesn't realize who Nick is and spontaneously invites him to lunch. From there, Nick begins his assault, attempting to seduce Lauren and she believes she is falling in love. McNaught draws a vivid portrait of a bold, successful business man who owns a considerable number of large, thriving companies. He is the typical type A confident male who thinks he has all the answers. In his arrogance, he seeks our Lauren for an affair - nothing more. He is a real stinker at times. Lauren, in turn, is fascinated with Nick until she learns his true identification. Lauren is quick and on target as she continually refuses Nick's further advances. Others have referred to Nick's treatment of Lauren as sexual harassment. Although I concede that Nick's words to Lauren could be considered sexual harassment, Lauren doesn't allow such treatment. She is firm and consistent in her refusals to Nick. She will not allow him to treat her flippantly. You actually love hearing Lauren reject Nick - you feel he deserves it. I am not fond of smart mouthed heroines that treat the man they secretly love with hate and meanness. This is not how Lauren treats Nick. Her treatment of Nick lets him know she will not allow disrespect, mistreatment, or use as a short term sexual playmate. Her lines are delivered with dry wit and satisfaction. McNaught does not allow her characters to wallow in silly misunderstandings or lies. Eventually Lauren and Nick communicate honestly and lovingly. There are a few sensual scenes that would rate about a three (see "about me" for sensual rating definition). This story does not need many sensual scenes. It drips with sexual chemistry. The lead characters spend a lot of quality time together and we can watch their relationship grow. There is only one thing I would have changed about this book and that is the heroine's age. She is only 23. In contemporary novels, I prefer the heroine at least a few years older. This is a book that will delight you and you won't want to put it down. Thanks Judith McNaught for another great story.
