Summary: Another scorcher in Jacobsville!
Review:

Lawless is one of my favorite by Diana Palmer to date. I read this one in a couple of hours (one of four that day on the beach) and was very happy with it. I was glad to see the addition of a bit of mystery to the ranch theme, with two of the main characters working in law enforcement. There are some shady characters, sabotage on the ranch and even murder. Young Christabel is one of the most liberated females Palmer has written. Although she's still virginal and niaive, she's quite sassy and that's most of what kept me reading. The ending seems rushed in this one, but I look forward to reading about lawman Cash and Tippy the movie star/model.

Summary: It was o.k. but nothing spectacular...
Review: Actually I thought Cash Grier was a much better hero then wimpy Judd any day and found myself rooting for Crissy to give him a chance instead of Judd!

Crissy and Judd's relationship starts out with him marrying her when she is sixteen in order to keep their failing ranch together with the stipulation that there will be an annullment when she turns 21. Judd secretly loves Crissy but thinks she is too young and hasn't lived her life yet.

Flash up to five years and Crissy is on the verge of turning 21. She has tried everything over the years to get Judd to notice her as a woman but has failed. While Crissy lives on the ranch, Judd has taken an apartment in Victoria near his job and to stay out of temptations way. There is also a murder/mystery inserted to liven things up, but you kind of know who the culprit is during the first part of the book.

Diana introduces a new character, the actress Tippy Moore who comes with a crew to film a movie on Judd and Crissy's ranch because the two are in dire need of funds. She is obnoxious, mean and snippy, just the right antagonist to keep Judd and Crissy apart. Like an idiot, Judd uses her to keep Crissy at a distance and Tippy has her own reasons for using Judd.We find out later that she has alot of hang ups and issues which is suppose to excuse all the nasty and spiteful things she says and does to Crissy. I wasn't buying it and felt no sympathy for her when everything was revealed. Crissy starts seeing/using Cash Grier who treats her like a queen when Judd blows her off. I really felt that these two should have been the main couple in this book because of the chemistry they had together. I really enjoyed Cash who was more sophisticated and knew how to treat a woman.

All and all this book could have been better if Judd had been written differently and Crissy less "melting"/forgiving everytime he was in the vicinity. I can hardly wait for Cash's story and hope that he is written with the same personality as he was in this book.

Summary: Fans will love this one.
Review: Christabel (Crissy) Gaines and Judd have been friends for a long time. Though fourteen years separate their ages, she has been in love with him for years. In fact, you would think she would be thrilled, she has been his wife for five years, since she was sixteen and he rescued her from her abusive father.

The drawback is that the union is only in name, Judd has never touched her, just been her friend, protector, and business partner. She is almost of age to be able to stand on her own, and then Judd will annul the marriage. To Crissy, it looks like he is more than ready for them both to move on, but Judd's life as a Texas Ranger has made a few enemies for him, and now one of them is planning to use Crissy to get to him. Will danger awaken the passion she has longed for for so long?

***** Once again, Diana Palmer follows the lines that she has used to win fans and create a successful career. The days of the wild west seem closer, and she utilizes the marriage of convenience plotline that has worked well with Regencies. As always, a young, innocent but spunky heroine loves a man it would be impossible not to love. Judd, like all her Texas men, will win your heart, just as he wins Crissy's. *****

Summary: Lawless
Review: Diana Palmer has done it again. This book rises to the level of the Long Tall Texan Series. This is a must read for all you ladies that love that strong Texas lawman type who loves the younger innocent.

You will LOVE, LOVE LOVE Judd and Crissy in this book.

Diana....who is next in this great string of great men.

I read until 3:00 a.m. with this one.

My heart stopped a few times...but it was great.

Summary: Refreshing and new!
Review: I admit I had second thoughts on pre-ordering and paying for the hardback version of this book after being dissapointed with "Desperado", but being an avid Palmer fan I bit the bullet and hoped for the best. I'm glad I did. This book's style is "classic Palmer" without being stale, and repeating sayings and scenes from previous books. The story of Judd and Chrissy is a page turner! The characters each stand on their own and even though the heroine is young and innocent, as most Palmer heroines are, she does not come across as a wimp. Judd is a character who is strong-willed, but completely loveable. Coupled with the wonderful love story, hint of a story with the secondary characters and a murder mystery thrown in, makes this a wonderful read. One of the best things about this book is that Palmer managed to keep her unique writing style while updating it at the same time. Awesome read!

Summary: Wow!
Review: I don't usually like comtemporary romance, I sway toward historical. But this story intrigued me. I was not disappointed. There was some great dialog in this book and some things that made me laugh. There were also some very tender moments. Judd is a very lovable hero. Crissy is a good women, lots of sass and whit but she is also very loving and faithful. Cash Grier add a great deal of spice to the story as well. He's rough around the edges but it's hard not to love him. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it. This is my first Diana Palmer book and I have already bought more.

Summary: A true disappointment - one of the worst.
Review: I fought to keep reading this book, hoping with all my might that it would somehow turn a corner and be the kind of storyline that I am used to reading from this author. No such luck. It was one of the silliest plots that I have ever read. I know this sounds strong, but believe me, it is well deserved. I so agree with the other reviewers that Cash and Crissy would have made a much better storyline than Judd and Crissy. I found Judd to be boring, childish, wimpy, and downright annoying throughout the whole read. Cash, to me, made me want to continue this book, even though I knew in my heart of hearts that he would end up with Tippy, and not Crissy. At least Tippy had a personality - all Crissy did was feel sorry of herself - that got old real fast. Cristabel had been coerced into marrying Judd Dunn at the age of 16. Their marriage was only on paper, at least for the first five years, and then when Juddd drank a little too much at Christmas time, he took advantage of her. Oh yeah, there's a subplot (a murder, rape, bank robbery) of which we could have done without and the author could then have spent more time developing characters (the characters were flat) and less time building a false momentum. I actually would appreciate reading about Cash (not necessarily with Tippy though) in another story - but I don't want to if Ms. Palmer is going to treat his storyline like this one. Anyway, the story plods along (Crissy thinks Judd loves Tippy, Judd thinks Crissy loves Cash, Cash knows Crissy loves Judd, and I never really figured out just what Tippy thought). After wading through chapter after chapter, the end finally arrives and it is such a letdown that you tend to feel, "What a waste of my time." I really wish I could get my money back for this book. My fault though - I should have waited until a few reviews had been posted. Next time I will, Ms. Palmer.

Review: I love a good old west romance. My last favorite was Simmons's, Anything, My Love, and Lawless was just as wonderful. Don't miss it. Palmer has a style all her own.

Summary: Cupcakes, anyone?
Review: I recently reviewed Cattleman's Pride and lamented that I had only to wait until page 98 for the leading man to say "In fact," he bit off against her lips, "neither are you, cupcake." I got my cupcake on page 23 of Lawless: "About as much as you do, cupcake," he mused. My friends in Texas assure me that they don't call their girlfriends cupcake. Please, Ms. Palmer, drop the overused endearment.
The author does her best work with full length novels, so, "cupcake" aside, this is not a bad book. The storyline was typical: strong older man and the virginal young woman, with some speed bumps tossed in for interest. Personally, I thought that Judd was a dud and Chrissy would have done better with Cash Grier. Tippy was so bitchy throughout that it defied belief that everyone was able to "make nice" with her at the end of the book.
If you need a few hours of escape, you could do worse.
