Summary: Enjoyable
Review: A good fantasy novel, with a likable, well developped hero, an interesting side kick (his cat), an interesting system of magic, and nicely developped conflict within the two main characters over the course of the book. On the down side, the sub-characters tend to be a bit flat, and the heroine, with her constant "my way or the high way" attitude toward our hero, more than a bit annoying. The 'Heartmate' rules defy logic and sense, but that is ignorable. Overall, this novel is better written than most Futuristic Romance novels, and well worth the purchase price.

Summary: He Knew That She Was Meant to Be His...
Review: All his life, Rand T'Ash had looked forward to meeting his HeartMate, someone who would bring peace, light and love to his life. T'Ash knew that he was a little rough around the edges and that he didn't quite fit into the noble society, but he was working on it. Years before he had carefully crafted his HeartGift, a necklace that should find and attract his HeartMate. It had been on display in his jewelry store window for a long time, but no one had yet come to claim it...

Danith Mallow was irresistibly drawn to the beautiful necklace on display in T'Ash's shop, but she was wary of T'Ash himself and believed that he had cast a spell on her to make her want him. In a world where a person's Flair, or magical gifts, determined their rank and role in society, Danith knew that she could never be T'Ash's equal. She had little or no pyschic ability and resigned herself to a comfortable life with another man. However, T'Ash refused to let Danith distance herself from him and saw her rejection as a challenge. He slowly changes her perceptions and helps her discover her own powerful pyschic abilites. He believes that she will turn to him if he is patient and that it is their destiny to be together. But will Danith have the courage to accept her place by his side?

I was pleasantly surprised by this book as it is very well written and actually has a story, not just a series of sensual scenes strung together. Robin Owens has created her own world with new rules, new roles and plenty of fun new characters. T'Ash is a typical brooding male and Danith is a strong female, she just doesn't know if she is quite strong enough to match him or if she wants to be strong enough to match him. There are also plenty of amusing supporting characters including T'Holly, T'Ash's charming best friend, Tinne, an impulsive boy about to take his first Passage, and, my favorite, Xanth, T'Ash's irrascible Fam (cat) who has the best lines in the whole book! The only thing that could have made this book better would be to make the ending a little less rushed and to have T'Ash and Danith come together a little sooner. But, this book is well worth buying and reading - you will enjoy yourself immensely!

Summary: Celta, a good read
Review: Are you a fan of Dara Joy or Jayne Castle? Then you'll absolutely love Robin D. Owens' HeartMate. Just imagine a planet settled by descendants of a Celtic society, people with powers that were feared and misunderstood on earth. Generations later, a woman raised in an orphanage hopes the greatest power of all, love, can win her wild Lord while he, of noble lineage but a rough past, fights to win the hand of his HeartMate. Although this is a fantasy, Ms. Owens has created believable characters who will leave you wanting more. For comic relief, Ms. Owens knows you can never go wrong with a cat...and what a cat!

Summary: What a Great Debut Novel!
Review: Author Robin Owens has created a new world for her first novel - one I found to be a delight. The hero, T'Ash has realized who is his heartmate and now is preparing to make a place for her in his life. He is overjoyed, because he will never be alone again and now he can continue his great house's line. Danith Mallow, his heartmate, isn't quite as excited. In fact, she thinks T'Ash is the opposite of what she is looking for in a man. Not only that, but she has been a commoner all her life and is very wary of joining her life with a great noble. The entire book is the conflict between the two characters and Danith's development from a shy commoner into a great lady. As a side character, T'Ash has a cat familiar named Zanth who speaks telepathically to T'Ash. Actually Zanth steals the entire novel. Zanth speaks and thinks EXACTLY as you would believe of a cat. In several places in the book, I found myself grinning and laughing at Zanth. I would have given this book 5 stars except for two things. While the character of Danith is well-rounded and fleshed out, the hero, T'Ash stays a two dimensional character until the last chapter or two of the book. Also, there were a few things going on in the book that were a struggle to understand at first, such as passage and flair. After a while these things fell into place, but a little bit of an explanation wouldn't have left me feeling like I had missed something vital. All in all, I was disappointed when the book ended. I would have like to have seen more of T'Ash and Danith's life AFTER HeartBond. I would have like to have seen Zanth find a mate. Hopefully, these things show up in a second book, which I will definitely buy.

Summary: Delightful Action and Romance
Review: For those who enjoy a mixture of Sic Fi, Fantasy and Romance HEART MATE will be right up your alley. Humans have colonized another world but these humans had something special about them. Call it psi ability or magic those with the 'Flair' are able to do many wonderful and interesting things. Ms. Owens doesn't spend a considerable amount of time developing the background of the why's or wherefore's, she lets the context of the story do that for her, and it works quite well. By the end you have a fair knowledge of how their universe is put together and the rules they live under, certainly enough to follow and enjoy the plot and the characters.

Which is good because the true strength of the story is the characters and the story line that entwines them. Rand T'Ash, a person with immense Flair but a twisted and tortured past, has found he true Heart Mate, the one person that matches him perfectly, the Ying for his Yang. The only problem is she doesn't believe it and wants nothing to do with him!

There is romance here by the buckets full! The end is predictable but doesn't detract from the twisted, painful, and sometimes humorous trail they take to find it. While not spending a lot of time on technical trivia Ms. Owens does flesh out her characters, especially Rand and Danith, with spectacular effect. By the end of the book you know them intimately, their flaws, and pains and ultimately their triumph.

This was the first book by Ms. Owens that I have had the pleasure to read, it won't be the last. Do yourself a favor and pick this one up, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

This one I defiantly RECOMMEND.

Summary: HeartMate-If you like Dara Joy's Knight of a Trillion Stars
Review: HeartMate was a very satisfying read. This book reminded me of Dara Joy's Knight of a Trillion Stars. The plots are, of course, different - but it seemed to have the same feel to it. Author Ann Avery wrote on the cover of this book "Dara Joy fans, rejoice!" She was right. The telepathic cat Zanth is great fun. I would love a sequel to this book.

Summary: A Lovestory Filled with Magic . . . .
Review: Heartmate was such a wonderful lovestory. It is the story of a man who longs to find love and to reclaim the life that was brutally stolen from him one fateful night.

Rand T'Ash is the last surviving member of his family (A GreatHouse, the highest rank in Celta). He has always anticipated the day when he would meet his HeartMate. He longs to rebuild his family ~ to find that special someone with whom he can share his life with. Yet, his tragic past has shaped him into the man he is today. He possesses incredible power and knows how feral he can become once he is angered. Still, he longs for his HeartMate and the love they would one day share.

At the age of six while fleeing the destruction of his family he was forced to live in the worst slums of the city called Downwind. He desperately fought to survive. He became strong of body and in mind as he sought vengenace for the destruction of his family. Now, he is a respected nobleman and an artisan. He owns his own shop and has made the perfect HeartMate which will attract his lifemate and bring her to him.

Danith Mallow is drawn to T'Ash's shop and the necklace that is on display there. It entrances her, fills her with fire but she is afraid of Rand and the aura of sensual fire that surrounds him. She denies him, again and again, even though she is attracted to him.

In their world, psychic ability defines everyone. Danith has very little while Rand is extremely powerful. Her status is the opposite of his and she believes that they could never have any future.

Rand will not allow her to refuse him and the destiny they have together. He sees her as a challenge and uses all of his power to make her surrender her heart to him.

HeartMate was a wonderful lovestory. I loved the way Rand was so very determined to claim Danith despite the fact that she was just as stubborn to refuse him. Also, I LOVED Zanth! No, he isn't a person but a cat who has a personality that is larger than life. He speaks telepathically to Rand. Well . . . speak isn't the right word here. "Demands" a lot from Rand but what a cat he is. Loyal and so darn loveable, too! <G>

HeartMate will not disappoint. Enjoy!

Summary: Magical Love
Review: HeartMate won two PEARLS from the Writerspace Paranormal Romance Readers Group: one for Best Fantasy/Magical Book of 2001 and one for Best New Author of 2001, plus an Honorable Mention for Best Futuristic of 2001. Add these to the four stars that Romantic Times Magazine gave to HeartMate and this gets a five star rating for a wonderful new magical world of romance.

Rand T'Ash and Danith Mallow are two strong-willed individuals who are each struggling with their own unique magical/Psi abilities and all the ups and downs associated with being from two different social classes. Rand can't quite understand why Danith doesn't readily accept the love which fate has predestined for them. He must learn the hard way that love from the heart is stronger than any bond fate or magic might provide.

Nothing comes easy for the inhabitants of Celta, a trend which lends itself to more tales from this fantasy world where not everyone is capable of magic but where everyone is vulnerable to the power of love. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Summary: Really Enjoyable, Loved the use of Magick, Great CATS!
Review: I am so tired of traditional "romance" novels so I really enjoyed this book.

The world Robin D.Owens created impressed me; the combination of psychic abilities and magical power in the people of Celta. I didn't feel comfortable with the "Royal ruling class" society structure though. It seemed a little extreme to me; which was touched on by the character T'Ash, since he grew up in the streets. So the auther may address this in future books I hope.

Some other reviewers didn't like the character of T'Ash much, found him too macho or whatever. I can see how he would come accross like this, however, having grown up without any guidence since he was six years old, I think it's understandable that he didn't have much finesse when courting his Heart Mate. At least he believed in Heart Mates, unlike Danith, our female lead character. She was soooooo annoying after awhile. I had to remind myself that the author was just trying to say she had issues from being an orphan, wanting to be in control of her own life etc. BUT, she was at times just sort of nasty and judgemental, it just took her too long to realize her feelings, it would have been just as good a book if they had gotten together a little sooner, and if she thawed a little sooner; the conflict could have still been within her, the fear of change, but without the coldness toward the hero. Regardless of what I consider character flaws(which may be just my subjective opinion), I loved the fact that they lived in a magical world, and could communicate with their cats telepathically, and I'll definitely buy her other books.
